  1. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 03:16 PM) Just watch. Alexei will be in CF on opening day if Owens is on the DL. Well they keep running him out there in CF lately.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 03:16 PM) It would be a joke if Ramirez started in CF over Anderson. They would then have to dedicate every April 1st to KW and Ozzie for April Fool's day.
  3. We'll find out tomorrow? http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=cws
  4. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 24, 2008 -> 05:13 PM) Since they added a round to the playoffs and changed the ALCS from a best of 5 to best of 7, the season starts about a week earlier than it used to. Before that, it started even a week later than that. A lot of the cold weather teams wouldn't open at home, so there's 2 weeks or 3 in some cases. You're obviously not going to avoid all of the foul April weather, but they should at least try to do something about it. I have a stub somewhere for the opener of Comiskey Park II. I think the date was April 18th. That was 1991 and was one of the latest home openers in awhile: Sox Home Opener 08 - Apr7 07 - Apr2 06 - Apr2 05 - Apr4 04 - Apr13 03 - Apr4 02 - Apr12 01 - Apr6 00 - Apr14 99 - Apr9 98 - Apr6 97 - Apr4 96 - Apr9 95 - Apr27 94 - Apr8 93 - Apr9 92 - Apr13 91 - Apr18 90 - Apr9 89 - Apr14 88 - Apr4 87 - Apr10 86 - Apr7 85 - Apr19 84 - Apr6 83 - Apr12
  5. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 24, 2008 -> 03:44 PM) Its stupid scheduling. I know the teams in warm weather and that have domes don't want their home games being played in April when kids are in school, but they should at least put as many games as possible into those locations until at least the middle of April. The Brewers with their dome come to Chicago twice in April. I know the games will sell out, but what about possible rainouts or coldouts or just the disinegration of the quality of the game when its ridiculously cold. Why does this seem to be more of an issue over the last couple of years compared to say 25 years ago?
  6. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=ArJN...p&type=lgns Nice to see the NFL cracking down on this.
  7. Opening Day @ Cleveland, Forecast: High 44, Low 21, 60% Chance of Precip, Wind 14 mph. I know it is still a week away, but that is ugly.
  8. QUOTE(joeynach @ Mar 23, 2008 -> 02:51 PM) Thats kinda what Im saying it seems our schedules has more extremes than others. Longer road and home stands, months with either ton of home games or a ton of road games. I would like to things a little but more balanced I guess, maybe thats just the engineer in me talking.Doesn't longer homestands and road trips equate to less travel? I would much rather only fly twice a week than four times a week.
  9. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 24, 2008 -> 07:36 AM) They already have several throughout the park. They are made of porceline. Classic thought, but I think it is "porcelain".
  10. The odd thing is that we don't play KC until June 3rd, yet we play LAA 7 times before playing KC once. Also, joey, your original schedule thread is here: http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...;p=1517864&
  11. Granderson is one of the biggest losses for the Tigers.
  12. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Mar 23, 2008 -> 07:18 AM) Someone should explain to KW the economic concept called the "sunk cost fallacy". If you buy a movie ticket and want to walk out, but "feel obligated" to stay because you paid for it, you are falling into this trap staying or leaving does not get you the money back There is value in player development. If Toby Hall is a sunk (ie unrecoverable) cost, eat the money and use your resources as well as possible. Either way, you've paid the millions of dollars. Might as well buy into the future. It is better to cut your losses as soon as possible as well. The more you wait, the longer you lose.
  13. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Mar 22, 2008 -> 10:19 PM) So I guess calling the 2B situation the Cuban Missile Crisis would be too easy? Since Uribe is involved, maybe "The Bay of Pigs" would be more appropriate.
  14. QUOTE(G&T @ Mar 22, 2008 -> 08:50 PM) Why people are surprised by this is beyond me. People were holding onto the belief that he would eventually come to the South Side. Our only shot was this winter and it didn't happen. 8 years is a long time. Detroit might look like the Rangers trying to recover from the A-Rod deal in a few years.
  15. Has a positional player ever made a 25 man roster without registering a hit in ST? Hall is right on track.
  16. Wouldn't the Flyball rate also be dependent on the type of pitchers and hitters? I thought the Sox hit about the same amount of HRs at home as they did away.
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 04:50 PM) And what happens when the Crosstown series roll around and no one has a clue who people are referring to? C-RAM? Cuban Ramirez
  18. QUOTE(Elgin Slim @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 01:29 PM) I still think that Floyd can be an average pitcher, but if he's only throwing his fastball at 89-91 mph he's going to get killed in the AL. If you look at his highlight reel from last year on whitesox.com he was throwing 93-94 consistently. I hope he can get his fastball back to that range. Floyd needs to get some neck tatoos or a neckbeard.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 01:20 PM) I really can't believe KW didn't acquire another starting pitcher this offseason. It almost seems like KW just doesn't want to be wrong about his moves. He doesn't let go.
  20. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 12:48 PM) Is Brian Anderson dead? Owens, CF Cabrera, SS Swisher, LF Konerko, 1B Dye, RF Pierzynski, C Fields, 3B Ramirez, 2B Floyd, P Hopefully it means they are confident in what they already have and they want to see more of Owens.
  21. QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 12:15 AM) The AL Wild Card will come out of the West. So you think someone like Seattle will sneak in over the Yanks, Tigers, and Sox for the Wild Card?
  22. QUOTE(jenks45monster @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 09:38 AM) Actually, Soriano signed on with the Yankees in 1998, when he was 22 years old. He played his 1st game in 99'. Alexei is 26. 3-4 years in age is a big difference if you ask me. But, I agree with your other comments. He will be very exciting to watch Yeah, but Soriano only played 9 games in 1999 and 22 in 2000 for the Yanks. So he was actually 25 before he was a full time player.
  23. QUOTE(Wanne @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 12:13 AM) That catch even made Joe Crede's ass pucker. That might have been the play that injured his back.
  24. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 20, 2008 -> 07:00 PM) Uribe actually to my eyes at least makes some sense for the Dodgers just based on his style of play...as the Dodgers have been pretty limited on power out of most of their positions the last few years and have had to rely on hits and manufacturing runs. Even though Uribe may not produce in the OBP/BA departments, he would be a right handed powerful bat, and that would be a fit for them. I also thought the comment about LA looking for someone that can also play 2nd was interesting. Uribe can probably play anywhere in the infield.
  25. Could it be the Dodgers: http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article...0033/1050/rss15
