QUOTE(ptatc @ Dec 15, 2007 -> 10:25 AM) People said the same thing about Denny Neagle, Mike Hampton, Kevin Brown, Alex Fernandez.... I'm not saying he isn't the best just that the odds of him actually staying healthy for even half the contract isn't good. since you will only be able to insure half of it, that will be a major drain on any budget. Those guys had nowhere near the success that Santana has had so far. You can't base it on health alone, in that case, everyone would only sign one year deals. He has the same chance of injury every year.
-
That is a great deal for the team that gets him. He would be 36 at the end of the contract. Just think of how high the average contract would be near the end of his deal. What was the average contract 5-7 years ago?
-
Their contracts were dirt cheap too. Mack for $1.5 million Harris for $800,000 They both can play multiple positions. Surprised the Nats got them for that cheap.
-
http://washington.nationals.mlb.com/news/p...sp&c_id=was I wouldn't have minded either one on the Sox bench.

$4 million is a pretty good deal for the Pads. Pretty low risk.

QUOTE(bighurt4life @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 10:54 PM) Just one, Scott Podsednik Also, there's no way that PK or Big Hurt end up on the list. Anyone ever see Frank in his college pictures? He has always been a ridiculously large human being, if PK was using roids then he should ask for his money back by the looks of his body Palmiero didn't look that different, and he needed viagara at a young age. So appearances can be deceiving. Uribe and Rowand.

http://www.philly.com/inquirer/sports/2007...ith_Giants.html How does a guy go from a successful manager in AAA, to a 3rd Base coach in the Bigs, back to Single-A? What did he do wrong?
-
The problem is KW is not the only one that created the championship team, and he is not the only one responsible for the current 70 win squad. The blame and credit needs to be spread out throughout the organization.

QUOTE(bighurt4life @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 10:40 PM) Sounds to me like we're about to trade minor league players for someone who's going to be on the 25 man roster, or else why keep those guys around and not protect some of the players taken in rule 5? We can only hope at this point.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 07:00 PM) That's not a bad thing. Did they offer Crede Arbitration? The Gonzalez thing is good, but could this have been done prior to the Rule 5 draft?
-
http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/press...sp&c_id=cws Couldn't this have been done earlier to protect another player from the Rule 5 draft?
-
I love the "Why do you suck?" twice just in case he missed the first one.

You can't be losers if you didn't lose anything. The Sox may not have been a winner during the Winter meetings, but they weren't the biggest losers either. That is just silly. It was just another boring Winter Meetings, and writers are reaching for anything to write about.

Didn't 27 other teams fail to get MCab and Hunter?

QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 07:22 AM) Rick Hahn talked about Brian on the radio last week. Hahn said Anderson was recovering from a sternum injury which he apparantly sustained while rehabbing his wrist. Not sure how that works but whatever. Guitar Hero, Rock band, or Dance Revolution

QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 12:31 PM) Looking at what Hunter and Jones just negotiated, let's look at an outfielder the Sox felt was overpriced just a couple years ago. That most fans said we being a greedy s.o.b. and that the Tigers got fleeced by Bora$$ For $15,000,000 he hit .363 139 rbi and scored another 117 times. .434 obp and .595 slugging. What will Hunter or Jones do for the extra $3 mil? So based on recent free agent signings, how does Maggs look at $15 mil? If you look at it like inflation, the current salaries are similar to Maggs $15 from a few years ago, just with the added inflation. The difference between Maggs and these guys though, was his health. Detroit took a pretty big gamble on him, and won.
-
Did KW actually whiff, or was he just making attempts to save face or drive up the price? I don't think he acted too fast, because he could not control what other teams did.
-
MCab was never going to get this team past the Indians and Tigers. KW can't control what other teams do or offer. If they offer better prospects, what can KW do, throw Greg Walker in the deal? Florida didn't want our prospects. Same with Hunter, should KW have offered more money than LAA?
-
That would be crazy if Willis was in on this as well.

Who would you rather have as a bench player ?

A Burke trade would almost be like a Loretta/Ozuna split. Burke might be the best option out of those three. -
QUOTE(SoxAce @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 04:03 PM) Another future sox interviewer gone. It is a curse I'm afraid.. It's like the Madden cover.

This one shows the Red Sox bias: Two years after the Sox win in 2005, they are a sub feature to Brady v Manning, yet the year that both teams (IND and NE) are undefeated, the Red Sox are the main story. -
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 28, 2007 -> 01:17 PM) The huge difference is Bartlett to Uribe.... Bartlett has been a better defensive SS than Uribe the last two seasons, while posting far better OBPs. Oh and he makes about $4M less. Yeah, it probably should have been green, but if the Sox sweetened the deal, maybe with some cash and a prospect it could be close.
