QUOTE(TLAK @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 05:52 PM) I've always liked Eckstein as a player but I believe in the saying "Old shortstops never win". The Eck is going to be 33 next year. The last shortstop on a WS champion who was that old was Larry Bowa in 1980 at age 35. Next was Maury Wills at 33 in 1965. The SS is traditionally the best athlete on the team, if David Eckstien at 33 is your best athlete, you are in trouble. Wow, that is a crazy stat.

I wonder how many A's from that time frame were on the stuff. There are so many connections with them from the early days of McGwire and Canseco, to Giambi, Tejada, etc, and now Guillen.

Question about pre-1994 divisional alignment
RME JICO replied to WhiteSoxfan1986's topic in The Diamond Club
The new AL West teams have the biggest advantage since they only have to beat 3 other teams for the division. Compare that to 5 other teams in the NL Central. This scenario becomes even more skewed if 1 or 2 of those teams are horrible. -
Brian Anderson's strong words about Winter Ball...

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Nov 4, 2007 -> 12:20 PM) Couldn't they just display the ball with the asterisk facing the back? I thought the same thing, but I think they are going to brand both sides so there is no way to hide it. If it is such a big deal, why don't they just display two helmets, one from when he was on the Pirates, and one from when he got the record, so everyone can actually see how much his head has grown during that time (natural growth of course).

Padres decline Mackowiak's option for 2008. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/base...mackowiak.0127/ Do the Sox pick him back up?

QUOTE(bigruss22 @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 06:22 PM) Maybe this is dumb of me, but are these values the ones for declaring a player to be a type A free agent or is it just a ranking. Yes, this is what they would be right now if they were a Free Agent.
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 06:17 PM) Does defense play a role in any of the rankings? I just find it odd that Daivd Ortiz can get a perfect 100 ranking.... As far as I know, yes, but I think it is based on opportunities.

Here are the Type A and B White Sox players as listed by Elias: Type A Konerko 87.778 Thome 87.059 Dye 80.253 Pierzynski 78.151 Vazquez 75.099 Jenks 82.008 Type B Uribe 61.905 Crede 61.143 Garland 71.329 Buehrle 61.111 Thornton 63.910 Hunter is a Type A. There are some real interesting valuations: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/al...-complete_N.htm I assume agents and teams would use some of these valuations as leverage in negotiations.

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AlPR...o&type=lgns A pretty interesting article about the World Series, and how it affects teams' revenue growth. Some good quotes:

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 02:39 PM) Right now I think it is a 3 horse race: Giants (where I think he goes) Angels Dodgers (team most apt to afford him as they have so many quality young players already in the lineup) Cubs (they spent a lot but they could definitely go for him; ownership change probably prevents it) You really see SF? I guess it would depend on if they take Bonds back.

KW to make a strong push for Crisp?
RME JICO replied to GreatScott82's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Would the Sawks or Sox be willing to do an Anderson for Crisp swap? -
According to Passan from Yahoo Sports, the Sox are not even in the top 10 to acquire A-Rod (my comments in parantheses): 1. LAA 2. LAD 3. SFG (I don't see it) 4. CHC (Spent a lot last year) 5. NYY (Not after the Opt Out) 6. NYM (Um, Wright and Reyes) 7. DET 8. BOS ( 9. FLA (Not enough payroll) 10. TEX (Why would they do it again?) I would say it is between LAD, LAA, and BOS. With the Sox and Tigers as dark horses. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=ApWW...oo&type=lgn

The Uribe decision is going to be interesting. I could almost see Eckstein wearing the Sox uniform (youth small) now. Ugh. Grinderstein.

QUOTE(Soxfest @ Oct 28, 2007 -> 11:17 PM) Last 3 times Red Sox won the World Series 1916,1918, and 2004, the White Sox went to the World Series the following year. So Red Sox in 1916, White Sox in 1917 Red Sox in 1918, White Sox scandal in 1919 Red Sox in 2004, White Sox in 2005 Red Sox in 2007, White Sox scandal in 2008 Maybe it comes out that Erstad and Pods were using Levitra instead of HGH.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Oct 28, 2007 -> 09:24 PM) I just want to know how Berman on ESPN had the ability to continue his broadcast after the eventual mutli-level orgasm he had when Boston recorded the final out.He has Red Sox Priapism.
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Oct 28, 2007 -> 09:11 PM) Give the Red Sox credit. Nobody predicted a sweep. They were that good this series and pretty much the best team in baseball all year.Cleveland would have probably swept them as well. That layoff must of killed them.
-
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Oct 28, 2007 -> 09:07 PM) Ha it'll be interesting to see what they do... Exactly. If there was anytime where the NFL should get the cover over the World Series champ, it would be this year. 8-0 vs 8-0 with NE looking completely unstoppable.
-
One of the most boring World Series ever. What are the odds that the Red Sox are on the cover of the next Sports Illustrated? Next week in the NFL is Indy vs NE, both undefeated at 8-0.
-
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Oct 27, 2007 -> 07:30 PM) It worked for the Cardinals last year The Tigers completely blew that one. The Cardinals had the lowest winning percentage of a World Series winner ever. The Twins in 1987 had 85 wins. They also had the lowest winning percentage of a World Series participant since the Mets in 1973 (82 wins). That is how rare that is.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 27, 2007 -> 06:37 PM) This is shaping up to be the least entertaining WS I can remember. This has to be one of the biggest mismatches in WS history. This has to be the worst. The teams are not even close. Just another flawed example of the playoff system. All a team has to do is play average ball all year, then get hot at the right time. I would've rather seen the Mets or Phillies in there.

THIS DATE IN WHITE SOX HISTORY: OCTOBER 26TH/WORLD CHAMPS

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Oct 27, 2007 -> 01:24 AM) Just finished watching the WS DVD (while drunk). I stil can't believe it happened. You cannot believe you got drunk? -
With his agent and medical history, there is no way the Sox re-sign him. He is going to want a lot of money and the Sox are not going to give it to him (see Maggs, Big Hurt, etc).
-
http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/cs-07...hi_tab02_layout He is back quicker than I thought.

The White Sox address some Soxtalk 2007 discussion topics

I also noticed this statement from the Herald: So Pods, Uribe, and possibly Erstad gone? Wow, wouldn't that be nice. http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=63462
