Here is an idea, lets put the starters thru more innings in the preseason to replicate the burnout felt in 2006. Also have Hall play 1B again, and any new player play out of position to acclimate them to their current position. Lastly, have Anderson tear it up in the preseason only to be beat out by Julio Franco/Ricky Henderson/Rafael Palmiero for the starting Centerfielder job.

Mike Myers Signs/ Andy Gonzalez optioned to Charlotte
RME JICO replied to JenksForPrez45's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Might as well bring in some players to see what they can do. Can't hurt. I just hope this is not the big Free Agent splash they were talking about. -
The Sox need some impact players and will need to pay for them. At a minimum, they need an OF, SS, and one dependable bullpen arm. If they get those (unlikely) they have a decent chance. However, if Pods or Erstad remain on the 2008 roster, this team will be lucky to break .500.

Now on pace for 71 wins and the lowest winning percentage since 1989. Hoorah Beer.

Garland has now allowed 48 runs in last 45.1 IP, and this inning is not over.

With the Iguchi and Mackowiak trades the Sox freed up an estimated $8 million off the books for 2008 and the Buehrle/Dye deals will cost the team $7 million more in 2008. So with the addition of Richar and Gonzalez's league minimum salaries, it is almost a wash. The Sox can free up about $13.5+ in 2008 from the following players: (Crede - $4.94 in 07, Pods - $2.9 in 07, Erstad $3.5 TO in 08, Cintron $1.9 in 07) to realistically fill only 2 positional slots (Starting OF and Bench player) and maybe one solid bullpen arm. IF - Konerko, Richar, Uribe, Fields, Pierzynski OF - Dye, Owens, FA DH - Thome BN - Gonzalez, Ozuna, Sweeney, Hall, FA

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 02:27 PM) Not yet, I'll update it with the prorated salaries of Iguchi and Mackowiak as well as Dye's new contract. Sweet thanks. After that we should be able to make some projections for next year, and what will be available in different scenarios (Pods/Erstad/Crede/Uribe - gone, etc).

QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 11:20 AM) Thome will be a White Sox in 2008, book it! (Especially since the Phillies are paying for majority of his salary) Majority of his salary? Try only $4 million out of his $14. Even after Philly's cash, the Sox still pay $10 for him.
-
I don't mind the signing, because it is only 2 years, but this team is going to be even slower in 2008 and 2009, which is hard to imagine.
-
Your 2008 White Sox: MB Count Garland MacDougal Thornton Vazquez Hall AJ Konerko Ozuna Thome Dye Those players salaries equal: $96.625 Million (not counting the money coming in from Philly). Add 9 Arb players: Richar Bukvich Floyd Danks Jenks Logan Fields Gonzalez Owens and you are over $101 million with a couple of Team Options and Arbitrations left (BO/TO: Uribe, Erstad; Arb: Cintron, Podsednik, and Crede). Clearly something has to give this offseason. Either a pitcher is traded or someone else is moved. Otherwise there will be no big splash in Free Agency.

QUOTE(SEALgep @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 06:47 AM) Always - you get the savings on the remaining payments of the year's salary when trading a player. Unless of course cash is part of the trade... So is Kalapse's chart reflect those changes?

The fuse is lit.....

Are the Iguchi and Mackowiak salaries pro-rated for this year?

Breaking 50 would be freakin awesome. Just smash the record to pieces. A lot of talk radio has been asking how something like this could fly under the radar so much. They figured that it had to do with all the other recent records that were achieved/broken - and that it may have watered down the rest in terms of excitement.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 05:43 PM) this is an incredible record and im not taking anything at all away from bobby here but do you guys buy what hawk ozzie and coop said, that its harder to do as a reliever?i think it is harder to do as a starter.....you have guys that will see you 3 times in the same game and your arm is more fatigued after 100 or so pitches....on the other hand its difficult to get in a groove as a reliever and you sometimes have to come in when you aren't 100% warmed up, and it can be tough to have control after just a short time in the pen....also you are facing the pressures of the late inning situation, however, as a starter you are potentially and probably facing the pressures of throwing a perfect game... its debatable and remarkable either way so it may be a moot point, but what do you guys think? There is no way to even compare it. There has never even been a reliever even close to the record. David Wells did it as a starter in 1998 and retired 38 straight; Barr had 41 straight as a starter in 1972. So 9 years and 35 years respectively, and Jenks now owns the most consecutive batters retired by a reliever. Also, Bobby will have the longest number of days (27) for an in-season hidden perfect game if he can get one more out on Tuesday (he is currently tied with Jeff Montgomery who retired 32 straight batter over a 27 day period).

Might want to change the title to "Vick suspended for 1 year": http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=Amdu...o&type=lgns -
This streak has to be one of the hardest to achieve. After all these years of baseball, and the record is only 41. Then to do it in today's day and age makes it even more amazing. Bobby has had to be perfect every batter for 41 straight (no hits, no walks, no HBP, no balks, no passed balls, no reached on error, no sacrifices, etc). That is actually unbelievable when you think about it. I wonder how many pitches Bobby has thrown during this streak, and whether that could be another record of sorts (ie. 200 pitches without a baserunner).
-
Also, just FYI. Bobby Jenks coming in was not Ozzie's idea. So no props to Ozzie. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/recap;_ylt=AiU...104&prov=ap

36-9 to finish with 90 wins. /thread

At this point Ozzie shouldn't get any blame or praise for his actions.

QUOTE(Capn12 @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 01:24 PM) Hard to believe such a great job by Bobby is having to happen during such a s***e season.. Buehrle's no-no and now Jenks record - and the Sox are likely to finish 4th in the Central.
-
0-12 from 3-4-5. Way to leave them in there when the game is on the line.

Fields hitting a Grand Slam off arguably the best Closer this year, WOW!

QUOTE(barnes @ Aug 11, 2007 -> 08:41 AM) I counted out the same thing, but assumed that the play-by-play was incorrect. Weird. (EDIT: Maybe a Sox pitcher allowed a batter to reach base and then Jenks came in, faced 2 batters, and got a GIDP?) Yep, vs Detroit: 9th Inning Matt Thornton pitching for Chicago S Casey singled to center. B Inge ran for S Casey. B Jenks relieved M Thornton. M Hessman flied out to left. B Inge stole second. M Rabelo lined into double play, second to shortstop, B Inge doubled off second. So 38 it is.

I keep getting a count of 39 batters, not 38. If he opened the inning and pitched 1.0 innings, he should've faced 3 batters. So that makes 12 consecutive appearances without allowing a baserunner (36 batters), then he retired the last 3 batters he faced vs Cleveland (39 batters). Where is the missing batter?
