QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 09:41 AM) Cleared due to lack of evidence, not due to any sort of specific contravention. That can change. DNA evidence didn't match anyone in the family. If it's good enough to clear this nut, why isn't it good enough to clear them?

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 09:16 AM) So is it back to the family did it? FWIW, the family was cleared twice.

QUOTE(SnB @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 09:30 AM) we do have that, but it's pretty much a ripoff. You'll get like 30% back. I would guess the first buyer would get screwed. I was more suggesting it for those of you looking to buy used and save a few bucks.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 08:20 AM) It was a ripoff when I was in school. No one really did it much unless they really needed the money, as it was usually better just to waiting and sell books directly to the next class. Gotcha. I bought 2nd year used books (nice that they already were noted in and highlighted ), for less than half the new cost. I kept a few fo them for future ref, but I did sell the others back. It was easier for me.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 04:29 PM) Well Tiger is probalby the strongest guy on the tour, but I was talking to my buddy about this today and he's a scratch golfer whose been playing all his life. He's not at all a strong guy and he said the only thing matters is your swing plane, flexibility and well having long arms/height would help as well (since you'd have a bigger arc which would help you generate more swing speed). His avg drive is in the 260-270 range, which would put him a bit below the pro players but for cripe sakes he's a bit taller than me yet is probably 25 pounds less than me and weaker as well so I'd have some doubts as to how much strength would help (that said, he obviously has a far more efficient swing than me). He says roids wouldn't help, but than again he's not a doctor. Still, I'm sure someone would try it cause you never know if it could help. Jim, by his mouth, is an "overweight slob" compared to the pros but can with ease drive 300 yards.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 07:30 AM) That's the same attitude and feeling I got. Brandon just isn't a real loose guy from what I can tell (granted I am not in the clubhouse or anything so I am not preaching this as gospel). The guy is very ritualistic, and likes to keep the same routine, as it keeps him in a mental comfort zone. Something like this is 180 degrees from the way Ozzie is, and I don't know if this is the problem, if there is a real personality conflict, or for some reason, Ozzie just doesn't believe Brandon is nearly as talented as everyone else does, or what. Heck it could even be something as petty as Ozzie is sick of hearing about how great Brandon is going to be, and that is why he refuses to use him more often, I have no idea, but something is there in my eyes. Think about it. Ozzie goes out of his way to test his players and to try them in just about every possible situation, to see if they can contribute in other ways, and at other times. By the time his teams get to September, he knows where he can trust his guys, and where he can't. For example, I know it has pissed everyone off all year long, but Ozzie knows that he can't trust Vazquez in the 6th and later. Instead of pulling a Manuel and jerking the guy out right away everytime, he tested him to see if he could handle it. Now if it gets to the point where the game is on the line, he doesn't have to wonder... he knows. Anyways, Ozzie never really did this with Brandon this year. He really used him in vanilla situations all year long, and never really threw him to the fire, the way he did with guys like Montero, Logan, Riske, Cotts, etc. If anyone can answer "why", I'd love to hear it. From everything we know about Brandon (from him and from rumors) we've yet to hear anything bad from the clubhouse - correct me if I am wrong and you've heard something different - so the only conclusion I have is that he's just too "quiet" for Oz. It's silly, but I do think it's very plausable. Carlos also wasn't part of that gang and you see how fast he was chastized and shipped (though the move was a logical fit).

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 08:10 PM) Well... he fled those to Thailand, then effectively fled Thailand from the charges there. Since Cali is here in the states, they and CO will get first crack, probably. Though I'd really love it if they sent him back to Thailand. I have been reading that he was under investigation in Thailand, but not to the point of about to be charged. Though I haven't read everything about him so I may have missed it. Has JB's father made any statement since they announced they were not filing charges? Also, has Burke made any comments?

Don't they have a turn in program at college? At St Xaviar we had that where you turned in your books at the end of the semester, got some $$ back, and they were resold to incomming students. While the course changed some, the books were usually goot for 3 or 4 cycles.

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 06:28 AM) The locked door thing is actually the policy at the junior high I'm at. Students get 3 minute passing periods. When the bell rings, all the doors get shut and then staff "sweeps" the halls where they get the late students with passes and then let them into the room. Students get a detention for the first two tardies and then harsher punishments as it goes on. The administration should have gone with in-school suspensions. I kinda fail to see how sending them home with no supervision, TV, video games etc. is a real punishment. With an in-school suspension, they get all their work and are supervised that they spend the day doing their homework. We had the locked door thing at Richards when I went to HS. I thought that was the norm. And I agree with the in-school suspension thing - we had that also. And do they not have detention anymore?

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 04:34 PM) I think you were pretty dead on when it came to Ozzie. IIRC, When he was hired you mentioned a lot of his positives but than also said there would be times where people would be shaking there heads at what came out of his mouth and some of his actions. I'm honestly shocked it took as long as it did for folks to turn on him...

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 06:05 PM) Drudge is now running that he'll be charged in CA for possession of child pornography. Which were the charges he fled from, correct?
-
QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 04:30 PM) So we hate Ozzie now? Some people never liked him. FTR, I like him most of the time.

You lucky dogs... I worked 30 hours a week and somehow found time to double major.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 04:24 PM) You know that I love Paulie, my favorite player in baseball. Well aside from that MVP candidate we had last year, I think his name was....WILLIE HARRIS You have issues..
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 04:16 PM) No doubt. Brandon has handled the questions as best as possible about him moving into the rotation and everything. But I guess since he's not firey or anything like that it upsets Ozzie. Afterall, it seems like if you say stupid stuff you instantly become a member of Ozzie's inner circle. The thing i don't get is, Brandon seems to be the pitching version of Paulie, a pretty quiet guy whose very serious and professional but when he goes to the media usually (aside from some of the spats with Thomas) its handled with some class. Ozzie never handles the media with class. Uhhh... Jason. Mrs BMac, i'm sure, knows all about Paulie behind the scenes so you should apologize for comparing her son to him....
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 04:08 PM) I think your making some big assumptions here. The only thing going on is Ozzie being an idiot and I know at least a couple players are upset with there roles on the team. However, to the credit of the Sox things have stayed quiet.
-
Jas, I think it's Brandon's "professional" attitude that rubs Oz the wrong way. Mike, please chime in with your thoughts also.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 04:06 PM) Of course injuries to Paulie and Konerko played some factor in all of this.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 08:20 PM) No the organization decided not to let McCarthy start.... If you want to blame someoen for that look at KW. You think Ozzie is the type of guy to be told how to manage the players...?

QUOTE(bmags @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 02:49 PM) it certainly came across that way...but i'm done arguing this point. Wouldn't it be nice to ask rather than assume...

QUOTE(bmags @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 02:41 PM) He can make a general point of interest based off his specific experience that the other person may not have known about. Thats the general atmosphere of most threads. As his point could and did pertain to a greater majority than the post it was directed to, and was not underriding their opinion, merely stating why he thinks there is an opposing viewpoint based on his own experience. The only person who has underrided anyones opinion in this thread has been you with "I do think that unless you are in charge of ones checkbook then you really don't know what is or isn't the better value for them, so I'm done commenting on that specific point." I don't think there should be any "you need to be this high to ride this rollercoaster" threads in here, do you? Kind of discourages people from commenting their welcome opinions. I sure didn't say what he could or couldn't do... I said what I am choosing to no longer do. I wont be commenting on rollercoaster height analogies because I didn't do such a thing. However, I do think you should refrain from pointing out s*** stirring unless you're pointing out your own actions as those were most definitely not mine.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 02:11 PM) So people complain when pods is in the lineup along with complaining when the everyday lineup, including him, isn't used all the time... That is correct.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 01:51 PM) Since the topic at hand deals with high school students, I still say uniforms are cheaper. You're describing two extremes, so I'll give my example: I shop at tjmaxx, marshalls, etc. with my younger brother in high school too and we never see shirts at a dollar or jeans for 2. Clothes for teenagers are pricey, even when shopping for sale and clearance prices. My brother isn't the type who wants the most expensive clothes or fads, but buying quality clothes for him to look presentable still isn't cheap. He needs far less of these clothes since his school requires a uniform. For school, he alternates between a few polos and khakis, the polos being from last year, and last year's shoes are still holding up, for now. The khakis were cheaper than any pair of jeans he has. (dockers hit the clearance racks; levis never do.) When wearing uniforms, there are no worries about keeping up with current fads or the latest expensive gym shoes. No designer jeans for alternating daily needed. You can get away with washing your shirt and wearing it more than once in a week. Brands don't matter since all the uniforms looks the same. I don't shop at those stores so I don't have any clue as to what teen clothes costs. My sister buys for a 5 year old and my cousin for 9, 11, and 12 year olds so that's all I know about. I do think that unless you are in charge of ones checkbook then you really don't know what is or isn't the better value for them, so I'm done commenting on that specific point.
-
QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 01:20 PM) Uniforms are cheaper. When you can buy t-shirts for a buck and jeans for $2 at TJMaxx, I'd say that's debatable. My sister gets clearance clothes for the kids at WalMart and they just had shorts on clearance for $0.50. That's a hard price to beat. My cousin has to buy 4 uniforms and shoes for her 3 kids EVERY year which is at the least a couple hundred per kid per schoolyear.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 10:52 AM) Did you feel like your generation followed all of the rules laid out for it? This is going to happen with every generation of kids that come up. They're going to find ways to push the boundaries set by whatever authority figure there is in existence. My group did it, I'm sure yours did, I'm sure that at some level, everyone here did. The school can suspend people for this if they want. Totally within their rights. But it's not something that you should panic about, because it happens with every group of kids. Of course not. Of course it is. I agree. What is it that we are disagreeing on?
