QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 10:04 AM) There were numerous reports that said Lofton didn't like playing for the White Sox because he was a Cubs fan. I highly doubt KW would ever consider bringing him back. Good grief... Mark is a Cardinals fan.. guess he shouldn't be allowed to play for us anymore either.

QUOTE(SnB @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 09:38 AM) the stat that my advisor loves to throw in his emails : after 5 years, something like 75% of graduates are doing something completely unrelated to their major. It's very, very close to accurate. Business Mgmt, Accounting-Finance Major.. I started out as an office "helper" (light ap, ar, payroll duties), moved to ar/ap manager then on to full office manager, figuring I'd end up heading an Accounting Dept/Controller/Director of Finance in the long run. I was on the way until an Analyst position came up. Much different from what I was doing - but more interesting, better pay, and a much more relaxing work environment being that I can work at my own pace without interruption from the bosses as long as the projects are done on time. Definitely keep your mind and options open.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 09:36 AM) Hey I got a question for you, gonna send it via PM if you have a few its a bit complicated. Shoot.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 09:33 AM) Hey, anyone who can go yard off Escobar in a tough spot like that and then got it started off Oswalt in the Series I am going to defend. There is no way we can trade this guy unless Boras is completely outrageous in his demands. Absolutely positively agree 100%.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 09:30 AM) At least you are consistent. Hm.. maybe I should offer Joe some lessons.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 09:28 AM) What about the two months this season where Konerko royally sucked? Look at his numbers in April and May. They were god awful. Also, what happened in 2003? People want to pay him 14 million? For a guy who hasn't sniffed .300 since 2002? I mean look at it, Crede came up just as big as Konerko during the playoffs. You know my feelings on Konerko... so I can not comment.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 09:23 AM) Career in September: .321, 17 HR, 67 RBI, .902 OPS, 26 doubles. Say what you want about Crede, but he is clutch in September and his playoff numbers were outstanding this year. Without him, we don't win the series IMO. For the second time.. I agree. But the $$ Boras is going to want for him.. I don't think 6 weeks of production is worth it.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 09:22 AM) To appease the Rally Crede crowd. How about moving Jolting Joe to 1st base(He has the glove and I am sure can learn the position), DH Kong, and then do the Uribe switch to 3rd base and the mystery SS can take his place. Hmmmmmm.... Interesting.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 09:18 AM) I guess, but I don't trade a guy who was basically the MVP of the playoffs before the season. If you get a sense during the season you won't get a deal with him, then maybe you move him. Also I think Crede will do his best to stay, he looks like one of the guys who is having the most fun along with Rowand, AJ, Mark and others. Joe did an amazing job.. I'm not taking anything away from him at all. But I'd be a lot more hesitant to let him go if A. he was more consistant, and B. Boras wasn't his agent. No doubt they had a great time... but memories don't pay the bills.
-
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 09:11 AM) Trading Crede would be the worst move ever. If that happened, expect me to rip KW's ass at Soxfest despite the World Championship. Hell I would go crazy if we traded Crede. This better not even come up in discussion. If Boras demands some crazy s*** and Crede validates him... I have no problem showing Joe the door.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 09:09 AM) Well, this could get fun. I hate the Yankees.

QUOTE(Beetle @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 08:47 AM) Yes, as a self-respecting baseball fan, I am aware the whole "Black Sox curse" angle was a media concoction (hence the word angle). But you do have to admit, they milked it for all its worth; especially FOX, with their elaborate montage. That might be their angle.. but not the angle of any self-respecting White Sox fan.
-
QUOTE(Beetle @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 08:31 AM) Yup... all the Marlins got was the standard 1-hour MLB WS dvd -- and even that was chock-full of Yankee/Clemens adulation footage. That said, the White Sox have a lot more history and mystique than the Fish, plus that whole "curse" angle to play with; so you never know. Hu...?

QUOTE(BMac41 @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 08:22 AM) :finger Right back atcha... Hey mods.. aren't the above comments about Kenny Lofton vacation material? :rolly QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 01:42 PM) I think it just looks childish. Grow up. If you really feel the need to say "*Insert players name here* is a piece of s***, and should never play in the major leauges again" then you shouldn't be allowed to post on Soxtalk. Tony is a brilliant mod..

QUOTE(BMac41 @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 08:18 AM) Kenny Lofton is an old piece of s***.The guy sucks now. He's a waste to have on the team. :headshake

QUOTE(Fingish @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 08:13 AM) I think a good cheap option to fill in some speed is Kenny Lofton. Left Handed, high OBP(.395), good speed (22SB/3CS), tons of experience. He is at a stage in his career where he only expects 250-350 AB's, he would be a great replacement for Timo. I know this isn't exactly what Ozzie wanted, he's probably looking for a full-time player to bat #2, and I have a sneaky feeling we will see both Anderson and Borchard on this team, which would make getting another OF out of the question. But if one of those guys get's moved, Lofton would be a great addition, and if Pods got banged up like he did in the 2nd half this year, Lofton is a proven lead-off hitter who could slip right in there without us losing too much. I know that this isn't a likely signing at this point, too crowded in the outfield at the moment, but Lofton has always been a great player, seems to end up on winning teams a lot, has tons of experience, is left-handed, fits the mold of what this team is about, and should come fairly cheap. Lofton offers a lot in a short term role, and is a solid clubhouse guy, IMO. But I think the Sox with the $$ to spend will be looking for a solid option. At least I hope they stay away from the band-aids.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 07:37 AM) It's amazing to me the different spins that different people put on the same story. This is a clasic example. No matter the view.. the bottom line is the same. The woman killed her kids, and has no business being able to roam free. Does she belong in prison or a mental institute is the question.. a question that can be answered without spending anther few million $$'s on a trial.

QUOTE(TLAK @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 07:29 AM) Crede (Scot Boras client) traded before his FA year. Uribe to 3B. New #2 plays SS? Ding, ding, ding...

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 10:35 PM) Sam's Club. K-Mart. Food-4-Less. They are selling non MLB stuff..? I'm thinking he means the stuff that they sell outside the park? And what's Food-4-Less? (besides the obvious, LOL) I've never heard of it.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 05:54 AM) I don't know Steff. I'm not trying to argue with you, that's for sure. You may be 100% correct on this. I just don't know. However, nothing you have said changes the point of view I came in with. Which was, I haven't seen anything outside of Soxtalk that points to it. I'm not being stubborn here, either. If you said, "Paul told me himself it's degenerative." I'd believe you. But Paul's quote doesn't lead me to the same conclusion it's leading you. Now you are asking me to take a leap of faith that he, in fact, does have a degenerative hip based on the fact that he has a neighbor in AZ who may or may not be Albert Belle, and who may or may not be advising him on his contract and that his hip may or may not be the reason he's doing so. Yas.. you know me well enough to know what I would and wouldn't say, and who that neighbor might be... which relative to this thread, and your claim that you've not heard about an issue anywhere but here, is moot. Bottom line, it doesn't matter. Take out degenerative and you and Jason have both been provided a source, Paul himself, that he has a hip issue. Whether it's degenerative or not will come out in the wash.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 05:39 AM) His hips aren't perfect. Given. Degenerative? Like Belle's? They both have the same ball and socket issue. Belle was 32 when his became unbearable. Who do you think is giving him advise on what kind of contract to go after... his trusty neighbor down in Scottsdale.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 05:31 AM) All that I've said, and right along with Jason on this one, is that Soxtalk is the ONLY place I've ever seen anything referring to Konerko having a degenerative hip condition. You put that quote out by Pauli, and as I'm reading it I'm thinking, ok so it's not degenerative then. Then I see your comment on the bottom of the post. Now, I'm thinking "Where did she get that it's degenerative?" Hell, he MAY have a degenerative hip condition. But I've seen nothing outside of Soxtalk that would lead me to believe so. Apparently you've not been watching him run the past several years.. He MAY have a condition.. yea.. this Cincy reporter just pulled it out of his ass and Paul said.. 'yea.. my hips aren't perfect..." EVERY YEAR he gets slower on the bases... but naaa.. there's nothing wrong with those hips. And if you do some research, it's been mentioned plenty outside of here. Starting with since 1998 - from Paul's mouth.
