  2. Sikko. Woman Charged With Molesting 15-Year-Old GAINESVILLE, Ga. - A Gainesville woman has been charged with child molestation after being accused of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old boy. Members of the boy's family said 37-year-old Lynnette Clark is pregnant with the boy's child and that they were married Tuesday in Dawson County. Dawson County probate officials confirmed the Tuesday marraige but declined to provide additional comment, saying Judge Jennifer Burt — who did not marry the couple — would release a statement on the marraige at 2 p.m. The Hall County Sheriff's Office did not immediately return a request comment Monday. Judy Hayles, the boy's grandmother, said she received a notice of the marriage from Dawson County because she is the boy's guardian. Clark was arrested Wednesday and brought to the Hall County Detention Center. Hayles said the relationship had been going on for nearly two years. She said her grandson and Clark's teenage son had been close friends and that he spent many weekends at Clark's home. Now Hayles said she is working to end the marriage. "This marriage is going to be terminated," she said. Georgia law provides an exemption to age requirements for marriage when the female applicant is pregnant.

  4. Polite robber has recipe for success? TORONTO (Reuters) - A Canadian bank robber, who politely presents a hold-up note on a recipe card, has hit 29 banks in four months, police said on Thursday. The unidentified man is the main suspect behind two bank heists in Toronto on Wednesday and 27 other robberies in the region since August. The suspect waits his turn in line and, once at the teller, quietly makes his intentions known on a recipe card. He has never shown a gun. The clean-shaven robber, who looks around 30 years old, usually wears a baseball cap and sometimes sunglasses. "They're (the police) very confident something will happen shortly," said Toronto police spokeswoman Wendy Drummond. "They're pulling out all the stops here," she said. She said the new confidence stems from better views of the suspect on surveillance tapes of his latest robberies. Police declined to say how much money the man, dubbed the "Recipe Card Bandit" by media, has stolen in the robberies. The Canadian Bankers Association offered a reward of C$10,000 for information leading to an arrest, a move only used twice in the past six years.
  5. Prosecutors not amused by accused mobster on TV NEW YORK (Reuters) - A reputed New York mobster has made a "mockery" of his bail conditions by starring in a reality television show in which he is seen frolicking with topless dancers at a strip club, prosecutors said on Thursday. Christopher Colombo, who is charged with racketeering and extortion, spent the past few months filming HBO's upcoming "House Arrest," said prosecutor Benjamin Lawsky in a letter to a federal judge. Lawsky sought stricter bail conditions for Colombo, who prosecutors have said belongs to the Colombo organized crime family. In August 2004, the judge allowed Colombo to spend more time out of his home because he said he wanted to spend more with his family. Instead, Lawsky said, he spent much of his time on the town filming "House Arrest," which HBO billed on its Web site as a "a docu-comedy based on reality." In the show, Colombo visits a Reiki therapist, a strip club, a Bronx tailor, a church confessional, a Chinese restaurant and a nightclub, before racing home to meet his curfew and play poker with friends. "Colombo seems to have spent a large amount of his time filming his show, which reportedly makes a mockery of Colombo's conditions of release," Lawsky wrote the judge. In his letter to the judge, Lawsky quoted a press release that he said Colombo gave him that describes a scene where "topless dancers cozy up to Colombo and wish him luck in fighting his indictment." The prosecutor also noted a media report that said during the episode Colombo is seen witnessing an associate using a credit card to break in to a church and notes: "This could be a violation of my bail restriction." "Colombo has used and abused the freedom the court granted him over the government's objection to go to strip clubs, attempt to break into churches, and generally gallivant around town with his associates," said Lawsky. Lawsky, noting Colombo wanted to make the show into a series, asked the judge to forbid him to film further episodes of the show as part of his bail conditions. Neither a lawyer for Colombo nor a spokesperson for HBO could be immediately reached.
  6. Folgers checking report of turtle found in coffee CHICAGO (Reuters) - Procter & Gamble Co. is looking into a report that an Iowa woman found a dead turtle in a package of its Folgers coffee, the company said on Friday. P&G spoke with the woman, Marjorie Morris, on Thursday. The incident was reported by the Associated Press. Morris says she found the turtle in a vacuum-packed brick package of Folgers coffee. She transferred the coffee to a plastic container for storage in the refrigerator and no longer has the original packaging, a spokeswoman for P&G said. Morris is sending the animal to P&G for investigation. "We believe that this is an isolated incident," P&G spokeswoman Susanne Dusing told Reuters. P&G, which makes Folgers and Millstone coffees, said it was not aware of any other such incidents. According to the AP report, Morris, of Ainsworth, Iowa, said she does not plan to sue Folgers. The report comes months after Wendy's International Inc. saw its sales suffer after a woman claimed she had found a piece of human finger in a bowl of the burger chain's chili. The woman and her husband were later arrested and pleaded guilty to charges that they planted the finger in the chili to obtain compensation from Wendy's.

  16. Doesn't look like she was kidnapped... possibly participated in crime. Pa. Teen Missing After Parents Slain MARTHA RAFFAELE, Associated Press Writer 18 minutes ago LITITZ, Pa. - Police searched across the East on Monday for an 18-year-old man and his girlfriend, whose parents were found shot to death in their home. Police said David G. Ludwig killed 14-year-old Kara Beth Borden's parents after they and their daughter argued about her curfew. The girl was last seen Sunday morning at the family's home in Warwick Township, about 60 miles west of Philadelphia. "We don't know whether she has been abducted or is willingly a part of this," said Police Chief William Seace. Until they can determine otherwise, police are operating on the assumption that she has been kidnapped. Borden's parents, Michael and Cathryn, both 50, were found shot to death shortly after 8 a.m. Sunday, after the couple's 9-year-old son ran to the home of neighbors for help. An older daughter also escaped. Police late Sunday issued an arrest warrant for Ludwig on two counts of criminal homicide, one count of reckless endangerment and one count of kidnapping. He was last seen driving his parents' red Volkswagen Jetta with Pennsylvania license plates EHH-0994. Seace said authorities do not know which direction Ludwig was heading and the search area for him and Kara was "anywhere in the state of Pennsylvania or along the eastern seaboard." The Amber alert for the two was expanded beyond Pennsylvania, he said Monday. "We think they're boyfriend and girlfriend," said Seace. "The young girl was out during the night, came home, and her parents confronted her. From what we understand, he came to the house." It was the second violent incident in a week in normally quiet Lititz, a Lancaster County village known for quaint shops, local artists and Sturgis Pretzel House, which bills itself as America's first pretzel bakery. On Tuesday, police shot and killed 23-year-old Daniel B. Faust hours after he allegedly shot one of three officers who had gone to his home with a traffic warrant. The officer, Jevon M. Miller, was critically wounded. The Borden family had lived in their home for several years, said neighbor Tod Sherman, 47. Mike Borden worked for a printing company, and the children were home-schooled, he said. Sherman said the family knew the 18-year-old suspect through a home-schooling network. He said he had occasionally seen the teen at the Bordens' home. Stephanie Mannon, 16, said Ludwig and Kara Borden had been seeing each other secretly. "Their parents didn't approve of them being together" because of the age difference, she said. "It wasn't because he was a shady character, because he wasn't." Both Ludwig and Kara Borden maintain Web sites. Hers refers to interests in soccer, art and her Christian faith; his says he enjoys "having soft air gun wars" and claims expertise in "getting in trouble." Neighbor John Hohman, 40, said his family got a phone call from Lancaster County emergency management officials Sunday morning warning them to stay inside. He said he looked out a window and saw police running through the neighborhood. About an hour and a half later, authorities told residents to go to their basements. "We were really upset. We didn't know what was going on," Hohman said.

    The Turbo Tapper..

Fast Beer Tap Maker Markets Home Kits RYAN NAKASHIMA, AP Business Writer 2 hours, 31 minutes ago MILWAUKEE - The company that sped up pulls of draft beer at sports stadiums around the country with its Turbo Tap nozzle is bringing the technology to rec rooms across America. Laminar Technologies LLC has outfitted six sports arenas including U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago and some 30 Chicago bars, receiving fawning media coverage. Time magazine lists the gadget as one of the coolest inventions of 2005 in an issue that hits newsstands Monday. After all the attention, the company says hundreds of beer drinkers are clamoring to get a Turbo Tap of their own. On Monday the company will start selling home kits online for those who have drilled holes in refrigerators to make "kegerators" or bought special coolers to serve draft beer in their basements, garages and recreation rooms. "It brings the project back to our roots," said inventor Matthew Younkle, the company's president and chief technology officer, who came up with the idea with partner Kristofer Dressler when they were students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. "At that point we weren't thinking about pouring beer in a concession environment," said Younkle, 32. "We were thinking about ways to pour beer faster at a party." The Chicago-based company started sales in January and has doubled sales every month since July although it would not release those figures. The Turbo Tap's main market will remain the big stadiums with hundreds of taps to convert, Younkle said. If home sales reached 10 percent of the total, "we would be thrilled," he said. While home users are not concerned with better sales, they are drawn by the same attributes that attracted businesses: pints poured in about two seconds — what the company claims is up to four times faster than a normal tap — and keg yield up to 30 percent better than regular. Because the tap smooths the pouring process, there is a regulated amount of foam, a lot of which normally goes down the drain in the quest for the perfect head. Efficient pours can mean up to 20 more beers per keg even for people who have no experience pulling beer, the company says. Tiny wings inside the tap keep the fluid moving in a steady "laminar flow" — thus the company name — which allows beer to move more quickly through fatter tubes without causing excessive foaming. The elongated, tapered tap fills cups from the bottom, preventing gravity from taking over and causing a foamy splash. Buyers who have set up home draft systems are already "gadget junkies" who will have no problem with the kit, said Dressler, director of product development. "They just think it's really cool," said Dressler, who corresponds with most of the hardcore fans. "It's a new gadget. They go to the World Series and they get a beer and they can say, 'I have that very tap at home.'" Since a pre-launch e-mail went out to supporters Nov. 2, the company has shipped about 25 a day, Younkle said. The home versions sell for $179, or $209 for the tower model, compared to stadiums, which lease the taps for about $99 each a year, plus consulting and maintenance fees. Chris Pick, a 28-year-old systems administrator in Rowlett, Texas, bought an early prototype for a Halloween party. Unlike after other keg parties, this time some beer was left over. Foam that usually ended up on his floor or lawn became beer that went into people's cups, he said. "It may have saved me $16 or $20 worth of beer, but it also saved my garage floor from getting messy," Pick said. Mark Brown, a 55-year-old prototype tester in West Bend, Wis., said the novelty of the device drew rave reviews at a daylight savings party. "I had a number of people say the beer tastes better from the Turbo Tap," he said. "It just might be that it's a new thing so it's psychological more than anything else." The product has competitors and its skeptics, however. Dispensing Systems International of Madison, Wis., makes the Mega-Tap, a machine that siphons off foam in a chamber, while cooling and pressurizing the beer appropriately before pouring, also from the bottom of the cup upward. It retails for $19,000, but can be rented for as little as $25 per keg to stadium operators, the company said. Dispensing's president, Curt Dollar, said there's more to pouring fast beers than just a tap. "It's not going to fix the wrongs of a beer system that has problems," Dollar said, adding Mega-Tap does. "If people buy this (Turbo Tap) and just put it on their existing tap towers thinking all their wrongs are going to be corrected, they're in for a surprise." But the company is pushing ahead. It is in talks with SABMiller PLC to provide Turbo Taps to retailers in South Africa, Younkle said. SportService Corp., a concession operator, earned back its investment on the taps at U.S. Cellular Field because of higher keg yield, even before the White Sox began their successful World Series playoff run, said the stadium's general manager Jeff Behr. The company is now considering installing Turbo Tap at its eight other stadiums in North America, he said. "I would say it's well worth the investment." Perlick Corp., the Milwaukee-based draft beer system maker with the largest market share in North America, is also considering offering Turbo Tap as an accessory, said co-chief executive Larry Molinari. "That's assuming that Matt wants to sell it to us," he said. For now, Younkle said he realizes the home market is just a drop in the bucket. The company is also working on a picnic-pump version for release next spring, he said. "What we're trying to do with the home market is just encourage people to experience good draft beer," Younkle said. "If they're experiencing it at home, they're going to want to experience it at ballparks, at bars. That's good for the industry, it's good for us."
