QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 10:02 AM) I should add that I saw the husband on the afternoon news yesterday and had ZERO grief on his face and voice. Just an observation. Like you say, we'll wait and see. This morning they showed him and his in-laws bawling. It was quite sad.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 09:58 AM) It certainly is strange. I always hope the spouse/parent/etc. is on the level whhen one of these tragedies is reported, and they almost always end up being the culprits. But I'll reserve judgement until the coroner's report comes out. They have been following this guy around like a hawk and from what they reported on the news this morning they have the times of the last tranmissions from the walkee talkiees that they were using and so far things jive. I hope there is no foul play. There was tons of media in Plainfield this morning on Route 30. for the family.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 09:01 AM) Which instantly makes Giambi at least respectable in my eyes. He all but admitted being a user, whereas Palmeiro gave us the "I never had sexual relations with that woman" speech. If Giambi could have.. I think he would have. He's still under gag with the BALCO investigation and upcomming trial. I suspect after it's over he'll tell his side of the story.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 02:10 PM) I wonder what Yankees fans think of Giambi right around now? I know they were ready to draw and quarter him before the season, i wonder if the sentiment has changed? Giambi didn't go in front of the world and swear with his right hand that he never took steroids... period.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 08:42 AM) Very strange the way he reacted once he was on the net. At first I thought he was stoned or drunk, but he didn't have a hard time walking back up the net, which looks tough to do even when sober. He just kinda sat there confused and looked like a 4 year old about to cry. I don't buy that he was drunk and I just can't believe it was purely stupidity. Agree, that he was stupid. I think he was simply dazed. Falling knocks the equilibrium off. He was likely just stunned.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 07:59 PM) What this proves is that not EVERYONE is looking to meet people via the Internet! I am a bit surprised that the sales are so low, but I have to say that this is not the kind of thing I'd really be all that interested in. The fact that I have 3 other games in September as well as other activities planned makes it easier to justify not going, but the fact is I probably wouldn't go to an Internet "meet-and-greet" anyway. Fairweather fan...

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 08:18 AM) It was a pretty dramatic win last night....so a little over-excitement happens. Especially with the game ending on a rocket to Blum. Agree. And Blum looked pretty happy about it also. Hermy looked like he had just had an accident as well.. These guys are fun to watch when they win. Ozzie was on the bench looking like he wa ready to kill someone when Hermy came out.. then literally was grinning from ear to ear when Blum caught that ball. The emotions these guys show is intriguing to watch.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 08:21 AM) Lou Pinella is the manager of the second worst team in baseball. Thanks for that fact.. not sure what it has to do with this thread... but thanks none the less.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 08:00 AM) I'd take that a step further, and say that I would bet dollars to donuts that no one on this board understands the game of baseball or this team's intracies as well as Ozzie Guillen does. Its incredible to me to think that people honestly believe that Ozzie wouldn't be trying to win games of this calibur. I understand enough to know that Bernie was 5 for 6 against Hermy and I was extremely nervous when he came on... But hey.. it worked.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 01:28 AM) With a 1 run lead, I'd have been more annoyed if Politte came out there in the 9th. With a 2 run lead...and a sore Hermanson, I can't say I blame him. I just wish to God Damaso could throw a strike to a left hander. He's just outside every single time any more. Is he.. or was the ump just being tight. I Tivo's the game.. and watched that last half inning at least 5 times.. then I woke Jim up, not saying why, and the first thing he said was "hmm.. looks like Marte is getting squeezed a bit there.."
-
QUOTE(3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 12:37 AM) Conclusion: quit playing the matchups when you're pitchers aren't suited for those matchups in the first place. Hermanson is the closer, stop disrespecting him. Ozzie is the manager of the #1 team in baseball...

QUOTE(Rooftop Shots @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 09:30 PM) Got a question about the orderr form. I already sent it in, but on the form it states that everyone can meet in the patio area 2 hours before the game. Is there another way in that I am not aware of? The gates open up 1 1/2 hours before the game, not 2 hours as the form states. It's actually a 2 hour party... Starts at 5:30 and ends at 7:30.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 04:55 PM) I'd love to believe that was a realistic timeline, but I just highly doubt it. I read a story that ran just a week ago that indicated they had not even picked a final design from among the competing firms, and a bunch of insiders were outright calling Lockheed's leading plan stupid. If they picked a plan and awarded a contract today, I'd still say 2007-2008 for unmanned flights was very optimistic, let alone manned flights. I just wish the scramjet technology had been realized. Bringing the cost of getting a vehicle into orbit down to $100 per pound instead of $1,000 a pound would have been huge. Hopefully it will happen in the next next generation. I'm sorry Jim... I didn't mean to inferr they'd be up by then. I meant get started production. Lockheed Martin and Litton Laser are driving hard to get them to move faster but you are right, they are dragging their feet. My other uncle works for Lockheed.. do you know folks there? Small world if you knew him.
-
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 03:50 PM) No way, absolutely not, even under the bast scenarios. According to my uncle who works for NASA via a general contractor who has hands in the new development (going on since 1998) they are much closer than is reported. When the last one blew up the firm he works for logged 80+ hour work weeks to get them a design that they could take to the government with the possibility of being in production in 2005. That obviously didn't work out so well. Don't kill the messenger...

QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 01:31 PM) Here's the way I board....when the team is doing well, kicking ass, and taking names I don't really say a lot. Yesterday I did put up a thread that asked you to predict the final records of the big three starters, and I think my predictions were on the optimistic side of things. When the team stinks, I feel the need to vent more. So I do it here. That's what the place is here for, right? Right.
-
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 01:31 PM) well you could take your own advice..... I could and would if I was jumping on others asses for having differing opinions.
-
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 01:30 PM) besides the game threads, how many of the threads that you start do you think are optimistic? Including this one.. in how many threads have you felt compelled to make a comment complaining about the things he posts..?? :headshake Don't answer.. I'm being sarcastic.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 01:28 PM) Nah, not everyone is panicking after 9 days of August... :rolly No.. but some of you are acting like f***ing 2 year olds... Who cares what someone else posts... good grief. Don't read it. Ignore it.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 01:18 PM) I'll have my softball stuff in the trunk most likely. We'll at least play catch. Also I can grab my frisbee and we can see if there is any interest in playing some Ultimate? Or we can just drink beer and eat! At 10 am...?!?! Drunks.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 11:51 AM) What's the chance that the shuttle program will be on moth balls until the next generation of shuttle is ready (I thought I read that the expected date was in 2010, but not sure)? Excellent. The foam issue apparently can't be resolved and while the "fix" in space was a success by definition, the risk of them having to do repairs in space is high. IMO, there is a good chance of more tragedy with this current fleet. The good news is the new birds are pretty close to production. It's just the funding that seems to be an issue. If they got the $$ I think it would be closer to '07.. but who knows.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 11:19 AM) I don't get it. The rabbit is in a different room. How did it know to jump? 6th sense
