QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 04:02 PM) Ok so where did the 25% increase from your fairly high estimate come from? NY State and out of state student..??? St Xavier here in Illinois is nearly $25K (I believe a semester as well, but I'm going from memory from the newsletter) but that's with room & board.

My grandparents bought me one because at the time I entered Richards off campus lunching was still allowed. My grama worked nearby so I would call her and she would come pick me up and we'd go to lunch. Also I used it to call her fro rides from after school activities. Used like 20 minutes a month.

3rd times a charm.. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,161358,00.html Shark Bites Tourist's Ankle in Florida Friday, July 01, 2005 VIDEO FREE FOX News Video:•Teen Recovering After Shark BiteSTORIES •Shark Attack Victim's Kin Thank Rescuers•Fla. Beach Reopens After Shark Attack•Teen Loses Leg in Second Fla. Shark Attack•Beaches Reopen Day After Shark Attack BOCA GRANDE, Fla. — A shark bit an Austrian tourist on the ankle Friday while the man stood in chest-deep water in the Gulf of Mexico (search), the sheriff's office said. It was the third shark attack in the state in a week. Armin Projer, 19, was airlifted by helicopter to Lee Memorial Hospital (search) in Fort Myers, where he was in good condition, hospital spokeswoman Pat Dolce said. "It is a confirmed shark attack," Lee County sheriff's spokeswoman Ileana LiMarzi said. "Someone else in the water saw a shark." Paramedics also indicated the wound was consistent with a shark bite, she said. The man was bitten near the lighthouse at Gasparilla Island Beach (search). "We are out there right now letting people know, notifying people on the beach about what happened," LiMarzi said. The beach was not closed to swimmers. Two other young people have been bitten since Saturday in gulf water off Florida. The latest incident was about 280 miles from an attack Monday on a 16-year-old boy who lost his leg and about 350 miles from the spot where a 14-year-old girl was killed Saturday. Experts believed bull sharks attacked both teens in the Florida Panhandle. The type of shark involved in Friday's attack was not immediately determined. Experts say shark attacks are rare, pointing out that there were only 30 in 2003 among the millions of people who hit the state's beaches. Most of those attacks were minor bites on the feet or ankles. Last year, when four hurricanes kept many visitors away, there were 12 attacks.

http://www.theneworleanschannel.com/news/4674747/detail.html Landlord Evicts Victim Of Murder Attempt For 'Being Too Loud' Tenant Is Former Marine, Police Officer POSTED: 9:44 am CDT July 1, 2005 JACKSONVILLE, N.C. -- A North Carolina woman has a new problem, after surviving six gunshot wounds and a jump from her second-story balcony to escape the man trying to kill her. Now, she's being evicted from her apartment. Dorothea Thomas was attacked last Friday. She got out of the hospital on Tuesday. On Wednesday, she found a notice on her front door, ordering her to leave. The former Marine and police officer was served with an eviction notice for, among other things, being too loud. Thomas is outraged. In her words, "I was not doing the violence. I was the victim. I shouldn't be treated like the perpetrator." Peggy Piche, district manager of United Dominion Residential Community, said the owners "truly regret the difficulty she has been through," but they feel "it is in the best interests of everyone involved that she no longer resides at our property." According to The Daily News, the eviction notice said Thomas had violated her lease agreement because she was attacked on the apartment grounds. She has lived in the apartment since 1996. "In this case the victim was attacked by someone with whom she had an ongoing relationship and had invited onto our property," Piche said in a press release. "While we empathize with her situation, her guest's actions were not only a breach of her lease, but more importantly, they endangered the lives of every other innocent person in the area." The apartment manager reportedly told Thomas that she needs to pay her rent until she moves out in a few weeks, and that she could get out of her lease without losing her security deposit. "She was talking to me like she was doing me a favor for not penalizing me for breaking the lease," Thomas told the Daily News. "I told her that I wasn't the one trying to break the lease." Thomas was shot in the chest, right breast, right palm, right forearm, thigh and buttocks. Two bullets remain inside her. Her left foot was also broken when she jumped off the balcony. An ex-boyfriend, Tyrone Burks, has been arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, felony speeding to elude arrest and speeding 115 mph in a 55-mph zone, according to the paper. Thomas lives in the three-bedroom apartment with her 3-year-old son and 18-year-old niece.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 01:48 PM) What!? I've never heard of a college charging $25k/semester. I'm an out of state student and it's around $10k for me. Take a look at private or Catholic college tuition..

QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 01:19 PM) We had a problem with some people near my in-laws house last year. The bottle rockets kept landing in their yard and we had 5 little kids running around. The noise isn't so much the problem as somebody getting hurt. The people setting them off have no idea (and probably don't care) where they land. There was crap on my solar cover on the pool this morning..

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 01:12 PM) Imagine being told to 'Go sleep with your mother!', from a guy dressed as a bunny. I also blew milk when they stuck him in the steamer trunk on 59th street. Hank died just before 9/11...I can't believe he's been dead for 4 years. OMG.. when he was in the truck that was classic. They were just talking about him the other day. I guess Howard took care of his mom, setting her up for life. Also I heard that Kennith Keith was real sick.. some form of cancer and Howard helped or is helping pay for his home care.

QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 01:08 PM) Can anyone actually remember that time? What the hell DID we do? I don't know.. I've had a cell phone since I was 13. There was never a time in my adult life I didn't have access to make a call immediately.

One year we went to Ruby Falls.. can't remember where it is.. maybe Tennessee.. and also to this mountian top where you can see 4 states... We all trotted up there.. stood for 10 minutes in complete silence.. then my sister who was maybe 5 at the time says "this is stupid". We all nodded, and in silence headed back down.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 12:51 PM) My favorite episodes were whenever they played the game 'Telephone' with Beetlejuice. They were always a riot. Beetle is funny.. but Hank the dwarf was hands down the most hysterical human being on that show. OMG.. I can still remember when they dressed him in that bunny suit!!

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 11:20 AM) For a majority of our neighbors, that's how we would handle it. There are a couple that are impossible and we wouldn't even waste our breath and just call the cops to deal with it if it was causing problems. The teens are new to lighting them off this year.. the big group usually ends about 11:30ish on the 3rd and 4th. I didn't hear the kids.. but I guess they were setting them off well past 2am last night. I did find their mess on my deck this morning though... I wasn't pleased about that.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 11:21 AM) Alright, I'm going to go ahead and throw this one out there because I suspect I'm not the only one that has participated in this gross negligence. There have been a handful of times I have recieved phone calls while driving, whether in my own neighborhood or not, picked them up, talked with whomever, only to hang up and realize I have completely spaced-out for the past few minutes. I don't know how I ended up where I did, all I know is I have arrived at my destination but can't really remember changing lanes, making turns, etc. Naurally, after I get out of the car I realize how bad I really was and begin to understand why the rest of the world hates Americans. I don't need to be on the phone for this to happen.

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 11:11 AM) Agreed...Steff, you pleasantly surprise on that one... LOL.. been a fan since I accidentally found him on the dial at least 15 years ago.

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 11:11 AM) I don't understand it either. I won't answer my phone while driving or call. And I really hate it when you're going 65 (cough80cough) down the interstate and some fool is yapping away or messing with his/her phone. I'm really sorry, but no one is so busy or important that it can't wait until you're home, or at least pull over. Interesting PDF article about issue Unfortunately Jim get's a lot of calls with work.. the good news is I am driving most of the time he is yapping. I usually only answer when my sister calls because it's usually something important about the baby which is far and few between, or if it's Jim when we're not together. I do stop when I'm not on the expressway.. when I'm on it I usually wait.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 11:05 AM) what is unlawful restraint and in what situation is unlawful restraint of a minor by itself a sex offense? It's when you restrain a minor at any time against their will. The charge is a good one - when applicable... but that it's attached to sex offense crimes and not by itself is where the problem lies. It should be totally separate.. but since in order to sexually offend a minor you have to restrain them they were attached I believe in the late '90's when those 2 twins in Chicago were abducted and the sex laws against minors were updated.

QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 11:06 AM) Since it's legal over here, we have never been able to do anything about it. I'm glad for that too because late at night is the only good time to do fireworks. If I didn't sleep during them I might be pissed about them going off at 3am... but I think I would just go ask them to stop versus calling the cops.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 10:58 AM) What about in emergencies? It'll never pass, but I see your point. Go back to doing what we did before cell phones. I agree they shouldn't be used. I'm nto an excessive user and rarely when driving anyway.. but when I see someone looking down to dial that scares the s*** out of me.

Congrats Apu!!!

Do the cops in your area enforce the "no fireworks" law in your areas..? The last 2 years in Plainfield we have a group a few houses around the lake that put on a really great show.. no one calls to complain that I know about. And they are all adults and seem very responsible.. Then we have these teens who, for the past 2 weeks (and I'll guess that it's only going to get worse over the next few days), have been blasting bottle rockets all of the neighborhood. I don't care cause I sleep regardless but my neighbor who lives across the street away from the lake was ranting and raving this morning about calling the cops. I suggested maybe asking them to stop if it gets to late before starting a neighborhood war... Anyone had any trouble with neighbors blowing them off all night..? I can't imagine they wouldn't stop if you were nice about it.
