  1. QUOTE(chiguy79 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:33 PM) And you would be a strong candidate for the guy that blew the $70mm he received. Rude.
  2. QUOTE(chiguy79 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:29 PM) Does this mean you aren't capable of thinking about it or making an opinion on it. Evolution would be at a standstill if we went by those standards/ideals. FYI- per getting back to the thread there is no news so we get to devolve into this arguement... No, sorry, I can't realistically think about having $50M. I know what I'd like to do if I had it.. but I'm smart enough to know those plans would likely change. Comparing evolution to imagioning what it would be like to have $54M... that's rich, no pun intended.
  3. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:27 PM) Additionally, I never said a word about him wanting to stay close to MO. You didn't, chiguy79 did. Regarding the financial assumptions, probably best to just wait and see. I agree that Mark is a "simple" man, but from experience I have seen that money brings out a different side to people. He's got to do what works for him. And God bless him for it.
  4. QUOTE(chiguy79 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:19 PM) Obviously we can't state Mark's opinion...only he can do that. But as IAMSHAQ suggest we can draw inferences that money becomes less important the more of it you have, is pretty much the point we are trying to make. You can disagree with that and that is fine, that will be your opinion. But you pretty much pointed out that your opinion is the same as ours. Again, head hitting wall. Unlike you I can't agree with that since I don't live that life. Therefor, my opinion is not the same at yours at all.
  5. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:12 PM) But your opinion is based on a situation not even in the same galaxy as Mark's, so why is it at all relevant? And no, my point is not flawed. It has nothing to do with Mark personally. It has to do with money. And as with anything else, you can only have so much of it before it becomes redundant. Once it becomes redundant, other considerations enter the equation, which is what I am suggesting. You tried to compare it to mark's situation. I did not. The only way your "point" is valid is if Mark himself told you the things you are repeating. You don't know what is important to mark. You don't know hom much $ is enough to Mark, and again, it's uninformed and an OPINION to think you do. QUOTE(chiguy79 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:14 PM) Pay attention, he wants to be close to MO...it has nothing to do with his commute. He does..? He told you this? Or did you mean to say, "it is my opinion that Mark want's to stay close to MO"? I don't get it.. Mark doesn't even go back to MO during the season. So he buys his folks plane tickets for every start. I'd guess they wouldn't mind not having to make the long drive.
  6. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:05 PM) Not quite sure why you brought up your work situation at all then. And I agree, I wouldn't want to leave Chicago either. If someone offered me $50 million and told me I could live in Chicago for the next 5 years or $70 million and I would have to live in New York for the next 5 years, I would take the $50 million. That is the ENTIRE POINT we are trying to make here. Because it backs up my opinion. Not Mark's. Mine. But your point is flawed because you are a fan and don't know anything about Mark's personal or financial life. Your point is not a point.. it's an OPINION.
  7. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 03:56 PM) I must have imagined this post then. I don't know what you imagined, but my work situation and Mark's are so far from comparable they aren't even in the same galaxy. And if you'd like me to more clear, I would never leave Chicago so even further the comparison of Chicago and NY does not apply. Nor should it.
  8. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 03:53 PM) He's been pretty clear that he would come to the Sox before the Cards. Good idea not to bite the hand that feeds you until you get a plate of food offered from the other hand...
  9. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 03:50 PM) I recall you stating that you don't care where it is, you're going where they pay you the most. That is when we brought up how the situations are entirely different. You recall incorrectly. The only thing remotely close to that I said was I would not blame Mark for going to the highest bidder and doing what is right for him and his family.
  10. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 03:42 PM) No one has stated that he doesn't or shouldn't care about that money. We're stating that it is conceivable he may want to play in Chicago and have $50,000,000 rather than play in New York and have $70,000,000. And I don't recall anyone stating differently so don't know what you're arguing about.
  11. QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 03:34 PM) Bruce Levine is saying he talked to Buehrle's agent. Buehrle HAS NOT agreed on anything Damn liar.
  12. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 03:30 PM) You're just intentionally missing the point now. I understand my point just fine. To think just because someone has $50M they don't care about another $10M is simply put, imo retarded. You don't agree, fine. Soon enough everyone will know how Mark feels about it.
  13. QUOTE(ChiSox9 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 03:29 PM) ESPN is tearing the Score apart... claiming why the hell would Mark under value himself for a "feel good" story for the White Sox. Ding, ding, ding, ding...
  14. QUOTE(quickman @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 03:22 PM) I know he wouldn't I work for him and have worked for him for 17 years. If that's the case, gimme his number. If he ain't gonna miss it, I ain't gonna pass up an opportunity to ask for it.
  15. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 03:21 PM) I'm not calling his agent a liar. However, I know agents can phrase things in unique ways. Either way I think both sides want to keep things quiet. I have absolutely no source in this situation so I'm clearly speculating on both sides (and am probably biased because I want to believe a deal is close). Well, I wasn't responding to you, but since you opened the door... I think you are nuts.
  16. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 03:17 PM) It's about relative amounts. To the poster, it makes a HUGE difference. To someone who already has tens of millions of dollars, it won't matter as much. I'd sure like to get 100k, but Bill Gates really wouldn't care about that much money. Somehow, I doubt Bill Gates would agree with you, but whatever.
  17. QUOTE(chiguy79 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 03:16 PM) It is not going to affect his quality of life, obviously it is a large gross number for any "normal" person but that isn't what we are talking about. To be in the top 5% of us household incomes you need to make $157,000, at $12.5mm he makes about 80x as much as that annually. So yes, $10mm is not as big of a deal to him as it is to someone who makes $30,000 a year and gets $10mm. To flip things around...look at how professional athletes don't care when they get fined/suspended to the tune of $100,000...what would happen to you if you got fined $100,000 by your job...$100,000 to Mark Buerhle is 1% of his income...if you screwed up at your job and they took 1% of your income you probably wouldn't care either, you would probably just be happy you have your job still after screwing up... Again, you don't know how it will effect Mark's life and it's uninformed in the least to say so. Mark makes more than the top 5% so to compare the two is apples and oranges. You filp.. my batteries are running low, and I don't really care.
  18. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 03:11 PM) I have to agree. There are such things as phones and fax machines. There would be no need for him to fly there today, if this weren't reaching some level of seriousness. Especially considering KW has said he will not negotiatie with a player during the season unless the agent comes to him, or the organization has an "epiphany." It appears one or both of the two have occcurred, and Hahn is flying out to get this done. So now Mark's agent is the liar.. Yikes. CC, my heard hurts, too.
  19. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 03:11 PM) yep, but its Carmen not Mac. I think what ESPN is doing is stupid, basically calling the Score idiots and wrong and all that. If Buehrle signed the 4-year, 50 million thing it would make Carmen look like a complete moron. I'm going with they have some solid as a rock evidence that Mark didn't do anything. They have a very good relationship with Sox brass and I'm sure they have confirmed above Bruce's report.
  20. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 03:07 PM) Look for Offman to back off during the next update. M, J, & H start ripping on them yet?
  21. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 03:05 PM) I can see him saying no deal is done....but if Hahn is on his way out than its likely they have already had some discussion and the rest will be finished up in person. You think Hahn would just fly out knowing the agent is out there??? My guess is they have talked, both sides are optimistic based on initial discussions and as a result the two sides agreed to meet in Tampa to get an official deal done. But that's not what he said.
  22. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 02:59 PM) That pretty much indicates that Levine's assumption is bogus. I'm not saying the score is right either, but if Hahn is in Tampa and Buehrle's agent is in Tampa there is a freaking reason (especially based upon Buehrle's quotes in the Sun Times article this morning). I think there is going to be some sort of special announcement around game time tonight (even if the game is in Tampa). And Jas, it wasn't an assumption. It was a direct quote from Mark's agent. Bruce is a lot of things, but a liar is not one of them.
  23. How is is bogus? Mark's agent said at noon "no new talks". IF he's in Tampa, and IF Hahn is on his way to Tampa, and IF they talk than that report will change. QUOTE(chiguy79 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 02:59 PM) This is a fun topic to discuss because you can actually fantasize about if you had to worry about taking $50mm or $60mm...would be a nice problem to have for sure. The bottom line is it is really hard to blow through that much cash unless you are very very reckless. Perhaps I should buy some powerball tix today. Many lottery winners have done exactly that.
  24. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 02:59 PM) probably quality control, considering the score has just announced like 7 deals and 5 resignings. LMAO.
  25. QUOTE(chiguy79 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 02:56 PM) The point wasn't that he should/shouldn't take the deal...the response was to the fact of whether $10mm difference in salary has that large of an impact on his financial well being. Obviously Mark can do what he wants and is entitled to get as much as someone is willing to pay him. I think that much everyone can agree on...hell this is america right. It was $20M, silly facts... and I don't know what the hell you are doing on this message board if to you $10M is not a significnt financial impact.
