  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 01:02 PM) I'm sure you were equally appalled at the 23 year old white guy who cried when the Sox won it all. Or the 32 year old who was mortified when her mug was flashed on Fox with tears streaming down her face before game 1.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 02:13 PM) So you don't think Klan members hanging out in front of the polls in a minority area wouldn't be voter intimidation? I think his previous response is clear. But you keep asking. I'm sure eventually someone will fit your mold. ETA: isn't this egging on stuff not allowed from the sign and agree thread?
  3. QUOTE (heirdog @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 08:19 AM) Wait...I am in agreement with you Steff. That was the whole point I was making. I was also saying for those that think these guys should live the life of a monk, that we don't know if in fact, he is still working hard and also going out, which is completely fine and I think therapeutic after a long season. My bad. I read it incorrectly.
  4. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 08:48 PM) Well, I guess my question was more of a historical question rather than a present time question. I could have sworn I heard tonite that Ohio was a very strong indicator historically of which way the vote will swing. Almost as good as an indicator as the monday night football game I don't think there is really any science to it. Factually over the past many years the winner of Ohio wins the election. No rhyme or reason.
  5. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 08:37 PM) CNN reports that they've turned the news off in Arizona. The folks at the Biltmore look like that is the last place on earth they want to be.
  6. QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 08:34 PM) Kinda of sad they have to have bullet proof glass over the stage at Grant Park. Nut cases will travel.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 08:30 PM) New Mexico=Obama'd. John will be ticked at the Aliens.
  8. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 05:14 PM) Unless the guy actually hit someone, can you really see the police there hauling off a Black Panther to jail in those circumstances? Especially if the responding officers were white? The one guy interviewed said the police asked him to leave, and without someone staying there to try and press charges for something, that was probbaly about all they could do without causing a bigger scene. Yes, I can. But that's me.
  9. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 03:24 PM) Well even people in this thread said it would be intimidating and they were accused of voter intimidation. So even if whoever posted that is the only one who thinks so, I guess by definition its voter intimidation. Its just thuggery and if they werent doing anything wrong the police wouldnt have removed the guy. Just because a few people walked past them when they were being filmed doesnt mean that their intentions werent to intimidate anybody they could. 1st quote response - The guy with the club was arrested for this? Because if that's what he was doing it's an arrestable offense is it not? 2nd quote response - And it doesn't mean that it was. It's in the eye of the beholder I suppose, right? The fact that the authorities found nothing wrong speaks volumes to me. To you, it's the other extreme. So be it.
  10. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 03:18 PM) Out of curiosity, what do you think his intentions were? Don't know, don't care, and by the looks of the folks in the video walking past him to go vote, they didn't care much either. The surroundings speak much louder than the kid taping the incident, IMO.
  11. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 03:14 PM) Imagine if these were skinheads in neo-nazi attire with one wielding a billy club. That would be decried as voter intimidation of the absolute worst kind. I agree with Tex that Obama would condem this, the amazing thing is, some on here can't. And some just choose to assume. Obviously the cops didn't think much of it either.
  12. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 03:12 PM) I dont know if this is something where you need a police report to see whats going on but I think its pretty obvious what was happening. The first story I heard on the radio was an interview with the first guy that called the police and he explained what they were doing when he tried to go in and why he called the police. Im sure if I can find the video if needed but what do you guys think a black panther with a night stick, standing outside a polling place telling people he was security was up to? I saw the interview with the guy that called the police - it's posted at the start of this thread and he never said they were doing anything to him when he tried to go in - and then I also watched the additional video that CC posted. In the latter video the guy is just standing there. If you find video of something else, please do post it. TIA.
  13. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 03:00 PM) good thing there is video to prove that is BS What am I missing here because I watched the video and it's exactly what the article states. 2 guys standing near the door, 1 with a night stick the other a resident and apparent pole watcher. Soon after the apparant McCain supporter confronted them with a video phone the one with the night stick left without incident. Is there another video? Did the police make a statement?
  14. QUOTE (heirdog @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 02:24 PM) Ummm...its the first week in November and outside of the all-star break, these guys don't get a vacation (yes, I know they get an off-season but according to you they should be punching the clock year round). These guys do go out during the season too so what's to say, BA didn't spend 15 hours in the cage or batting against some Brad Penny fastballs before hitting the town. Besides, it actually looked like BA was calm and defusing the situation before it escalated...spouting off about some 95 or 96 Mercedes...are those vintage or something? So what if he didn't. He's an adult and capable of going out for a night with friends. Good grief... if it was up to some these poor guys would be living the life of a monk.
  15. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 02:03 PM) The one guy without the nitestick was an official pollwatcher and lived in the building. The other guy was apparently neither one. Yea. I said that already ^ there.
  16. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 02:02 PM) Does the same apply for any dumbass that belives it when they get a flier that says because og high voter turnout republicans vote on Tuesday and Democrats vote on Wednesday? Uncalled for. Seriously.
  17. QUOTE (mreye @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 01:31 PM) Anyone wearing a uniform, wielding a stick and wearing a scowl on their face while lying about being security is scary. Oh, he was lying about being security? I must have missed that part. Good thing they asked him to leave, and him doing so without incident, then.
  18. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 01:09 PM) Showing that they are there to watch and make sure that people who want to vote can vote. There are a million arguments you can make. In the video CC just posted in the Pather thread he claims to be security. Anything is possible.
  19. IMO, the kid with the phone was making more of it than there was. The white folks going in and out of the building sure didn't look intimidated.
  20. How dare you guys use that poor woman as your excuse. Sexist pigs!!!
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 12:54 PM) What was the report? That some dude was hanging out outside a polling place with a billy club? Seems like the po-po should have acted there. Seems like voter intimidation to me, if that's what happend (IF). That was the report. But since the police supposedly had been there and gone - and all they did accorging to the guy that called them was ask they guy with the club to leave - there was no comment from them. The was another panther member there not bothering anyone. They show him on camera.
  22. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 12:55 PM) Ok so technically yes, they are different, but the idea is essentially the same. And I believe AHB said something like there were reports of Repubs trying to block votes. What would be the goal of Black Panthers standing in the doorway to a voting building with nightsticks? I just feel it is essentially the same thing, because the goal is essentially the same. And without details about the Philly incident, you dont know. One could make an argument that standing in a doorway with nightsticks would fall under the phrase "xxxxxx is trying to suppress votes in xxxxxx" too. Thats all i'm trying to say. Attempting to sway voters to vote the way they want them to. I see what you're trying to say, though since they weren't stopping anyone from voting I don't agree with it.
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 12:49 PM) I can't watch the video at work, but... how real is this? Any actual news on it yet? An interview with the guy who called the cops - who had apparantly been there and gone by the time the reporter got there. But there was another "peaceful" pather at the door to the building which was also identified at his residence.
  24. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 12:45 PM) If the purpose of them both is to attempt to keep the "other side" away from voting, how are they different? Seriously? How is the action of both the same? One stops you from being able to vote the other attempts to sway your vote.
  25. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 12:42 PM) Ok, standing at the door holding a nightstick. It's still voter intimidation. My point was that both sides will be guilty of their supporters engaging in dirty tactics today, so acting like only one side does it is unfair. And I agree with your point. However blocking and intimidating are 2 very different things.
