QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 12:15 PM) BTW since the Redskins lost last night that means the incumbent party will lose the Presidential election. I dunno... McCain got the Alien endorcement in NM. That might be just what he needed :-)

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 12:39 PM) Reports of Black Panthers blocking polling places. Shocking. According to the guy who called the police they were not blocking anyone from entering the building.

QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 3, 2008 -> 10:03 AM) Does someone need to reminded of Harold Washington and "Give 'em the finger"? "Let's give 'em the finger", which was overheard and not spoken directly into a tv camera in the hallway of the stadium in New Orleans... and "World f***ing champs" screamed on a stage into a bank of cameras in a public place where there were many children in attendance... not so comparable, IMO. If Paul Konerko had done this I would bet high that Jerry would have cut his slow ass loose.

QUOTE (easyw @ Nov 2, 2008 -> 05:51 PM) Thome gave out autgraphed pictures of himself to trick or treaters this Halloween. Jenks lives about 1/2 mile from him, but I didn't go by his house, so I'm not sure what he was giving out. Probably just candy - I'm sure the Jenks house always has plenty of that on hand. He gave out a FULL SIZE Hershey bar, too!!!

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 01:59 PM) So for those who received invites for the Grant Park rally, have you actually been emailed a ticket yet? I signed up when they sent me the invite and haven't seen anything yet. Regardless if I get a ticket or not I will be down there with my wife and a group of friends...wearing my Sox cap of course. Gotta reprazent. So the roll call for Tuesday so far is: BigSqwert Jim wont let me go. Something about riots.. a daughter to raise.. bal, bla. bla... Have fun. Regardless of the outcome it will be cool to be part of such history.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 03:04 PM) Steff, what you mean is 100% correct. You expect when you hire a plumber, that the work performed, is by a licensed plumber. However, you do not have to be licensed to employ licensed plumbers. You have to be licensed to "sign off" on the job. Most cities and towns require that. So just like that 19 year old kid a couple years ago who inherited a bar, he could own it, he just could not serve or consume alcohol there. Even better, I was talking yesterday with the owner of a day and night medical clinic I'm trying to help me with my camp. He actually owns three clinics in the area. He is an attorney. No medical training. Zero. Nada. I don't know any plumbers but I do know 2 electricians who own their own business and they claim that they couldn't get a business license without first being licensed (also called certified) so I'm just going off of that. It doesn't make sense for it to be the other way but I concede on this topic.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 03:01 PM) Watch the Deadlist Catch, Mike Roe will tell you this often while looking at the radar map of where the boats are. Been watching it for years but I don't recall Sig giving me that particular Geography lesson :-)

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 03:00 PM) I believe you have to be licensed to be bonded and insured as well as being part of the union. I think he could own the business but would not get any type of work as he can not be insured and that is not who you want working on your home/business. I don't think you can get a business license without being licensed in that field. That's how it works for electricians anyway.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 02:54 PM) There is no educational opportunity in listening to Palin speak unless you want to hear about how bad the next 4 years will be if Obama wins and how unAmerican you are if you are not agreeing with her policies. Not to mention she will tell the Solar Power folks to give it up as oil is where it is at You betcha there is educational value there. Maybe a little. I had no idea one could see Russia from Alaska.
-
QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 02:52 PM) Minor side note: Actually you don't need to be licensed, just work under a licensed plumber (which can mean almost zero direct supervision). At least in many locals. I'm aware of that however you have to be licensed to own the business.
-
QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 02:50 PM) Educational opportunity for the kids. Seems like Obama would want to do the same thing, unless Obama is against kids coming to his rallys. The younger the better I bet. Maybe he can get a sex ed class in while they're there.

QUOTE (longshot7 @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 12:50 PM) My mother waited 90 minutes to vote early in Bolingbrook this morning. Is it just because they don't have enough poll workers to handle the early voters, or are there really that many new people voting? I waited about 30 minutes in Plainfield. There were more people than I expected would be there.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 01:53 PM) He doesn't need a license, Obama's treasurer owes back taxes too and what a fool he is to want to own his own business someday. To be a licensed plumber you don't need a license...? Hopefully Obama's treasurer gets that cleared up, but right now I am talking about Joe the unlicensed plumber. And of course he's not a fool for wanting to be successfull... however, IMO, he's a mornon for crying about something he's light years away from even being in a position to think about doing. There's lots of things I would like to do though I wouldn't be so stupid as to make a federal case out of them if there's no possible way for me to accomplish them in a reasonable timeline from when I start b****ing about them. JMO though.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 12:23 PM) haha oops! man, this campaign has just completely unraveled. Why are they still using this guy? He owes back taxes, isn't a licensed plumber, and is in no position to own his own business - which is his claim to fame concern, no? And isn't he related to someone connected to McCain also or was that bs?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 12:10 PM) Yeah, so they dont let you smoke on the ramps anymore, they have a gated off area outside of the black gates just like United Center. I had no idea. Wonder why it's a big deal to completely cut it off then.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 10:59 AM) Well, i understand you cant smoke in the park, thats been a rule for awhile now as they make you got outside like UC. But this restaurant/bar is going to be at the same gate as they outside smoking section over there, which is what I was saying. So they actually moved the smoking area outside of the park? Outside of the black metal gates? And they let people back in? Last time I knew it was still in the park on the ramps. If they now make you go outside the gates I guess that's comparable to the UC policy, but what I have been hearing all over the place is that they are going to be adopting the Soldier Field policy which is smoking allowed until you pass the ticket taker.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 10:50 AM) The smoking area is outside of the park right next to where they are building it. It's not outside the park. It's on the ramp platform and according to the photo shop exactly where this new structure is being built. Regardless, it's owned by the state and (not) soon (enough) smoking will not be allowed at all.

The biggest problem is that they don't care. They are counting on him shutting up with the threat of them suing him. That's what they do these days. They are lucky to be making 10% on moves today where 2 years ago they were making 40%. Every customer they get to just go away is a bonus. Sadly, most do.
-
QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 10:26 AM) Yeah, I kind of knew that. Plus the help likes to help themselves to a comfortable place to sleep, which could be your couch. He thought his stuff was in a separated unit, but that would make it highly unlikely for him to receive some other person's stuff. He is thinking they don't know the items that were delivered by mistake that belong to another customer that a third party moved. I sent him a PM with some of Jim's advice. Ironically his "being a dick" stance is the right thing to do in this case in Jim's opinion. If anyone would know it would be him, IMO.

QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Oct 23, 2008 -> 11:24 AM) Today on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read "Vote Obama, I need the money." I laughed. Once in the restaurant my server had on a "Obama 08" tie, again I laughed as he had given away his political preference--just imagine the coincidence. When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight. I went outside, gave the homeless guy $5 and told him to thank the server inside as I've decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful. At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient deserved money more. I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 07:12 AM) If they were in their on storage unit, I wonder how they got mixed. The movers like that usually mark off space on their warehouse floor and that's why sometimes stuff gets mixed. My ex is missing an irreplaceable family painting and a couple other things from her move. Since the moving company doesn't know what you have, they would never match it up to the actual owner. I guess it's too bad if that person does come in looking for them. I'm picturing someone in the same spot as you, keeping your stuff until the moving company cooperates. Maybe having a garage sale. First step is finding out what you signed. In all honesty, most don't. They may tell you they do, it may be in a contract, they may even show you a nice little area of their warehouse as an example, but they don't. If you have a need to store items either store them yourself or hire a company that does store them individually in a designated trailer. It's not that much more expensive and then you are 100% guaranteed that your things will not be stored with others. Also, any moving company worth a hill of beans sure does know what you have. They take an inventory both at quote and on moving day, and if they don't, fire them. Also BD Jim told me to ask you to check on insurance. He's guessing you didn't buy any additional but in Illinois there is a standard policy upon contract signing for Bekins, North American, Allied, etc.. so hopefully that company has the same.

Wow. The Sox locker room was wrecked by this time in '05. The Phillies clearly don't know how to celebrate.
