QUOTE (dasox24 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 10:54 PM) Absolutely... I hope it treats you well. Me, too. I have to say that Casio - the black one with the huge display - was right up there but I just couldn't justfy the extra $$ with the features of both being so similar. The appearance of the Casio is clearly nicer, but the stainless steel of the Canon is logical with a 1 year old who is all of a sudden wanting to take pictures with mommy's camera

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 08:05 PM) I've got a Canon Powershot SD1100 and it's served me well. Certainly recommend the Powershot range. I went with the Canon Power Shot SD790 IS. The Casio was a very close second. Thanks for the help guys.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 07:34 PM) Yes, they do play on Windows Media Player. What kind of editing are you planning on doing with your pics? If you mean basic things like cropping pictures, etc., then yeah it's easy. I don't really edit my pictures besides those basics, so not sure I could tell you of any in-depth editing features. But, I've never found any problems with the software. I think it's easy to use. That would probably be ok since I have some other software for the more complicated stuff. Mainly I want the camera software to keep things organized and easy to find. The more I read about it the more I like it. I'm going out after Bri's in bed to check the couple I am interested in out. Thanks

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 07:33 PM) I've got a Canon Powershot and it does pretty well. Can't remember if it's 8 Megapixel or 12 Megapixels though. To be honest I can work around the mp's. It's the video format I'm more concerned about. I've been hearing great things about the canon's and no matter what to stay away from the Sony's.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 07:16 PM) The videos on my computer that I have from it are .avi sorry, I didn't even think about checking that when I read your first post. Do they play with windows media player? And how's the software? Easy to edit the pics?

QUOTE (SouthSidePride05 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 06:57 PM) I just bought this one: Fujifilm FinePix S700 I highly recommend it! The reviews on it are great, but I need something smaller.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 04:29 PM) Canon has been good to me. Any specific one?

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 05:30 PM) I love my Casio Exilim... Very easy to use and takes great pictures. My mom and sister also own one - that's how much we like that camera. That's at the top of my list. Do the vid's record in .mpeg's?

I know there's a thread here somewhere on them, but the search feature aint on so I'm starting a new one. The HP I've had forever finally bit the dust. I need a new one ASAP - and HP is out of the camera market. Must be at least 10mp's and take video in the .mpg format (so Kodak's are not an option as I don't want to mess with converting the files). TIA for suggestions. Steff

QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 02:16 PM) Well, if I tip every other beer (which I usually do) I'm still tipping around 20 percent, but I'm not going to give the bartender a dollar tip for every $2 beer I buy (usually the price at the bar I go to at NIU). LOL.. I miss those $2 beer days. Savor it while you can.

I'm 35 so I missed most of Ozzie's time with them - I was only 6 or 7 when they fired him - but since my dad was a fan from the start I listened to a lot of the "old" stuff and of course followed them in the 80's and 90's. When Ozzie came back in the late '90's I saw them in concert a few times. My dad doesn't mind Ozzie's whoring. He's said a few times that someone as crazy as Ozzie needs to make as much money as he can however he can to afford his shrink and perscription drug bills.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 01:58 PM) I think it's pretty funny that Ozzy Osbourne is a big reality TV star, but besides that it doesn't change my opinion of early Black Sabbath or Ozzy's solo albums in the 1980's; Ozzy has been a driving force in a number of great albums. Truth is Ozzy has always been kind of a goof, so whoring himself out for tv commercials in his old age doesn't surprise me. Ditto. In fact I think the way he goes about whoring (saying f*** you this is how I am doing things and if you don't like it tough s***) keeps him true to himself and not a sellout like some others.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 12:01 PM) I honestly believe a woman's desire to be rail-thin has little to do with how men perceive them. Someone must have told Karen Carpenter at some point that there would be a million men willing to knock down her door and touch her in inappropriate places. Karen Carpenter had a disease, as do many females who are that "rail thin". There is a difference between being a size 2 and a size 0 and an even bigger difference in wanting to be thin and being anorexic or bulimic.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 01:18 PM) I am usually pretty good at tipping waitresses, delivery drivers, etc. But with bartenders, i'll tip them every other beer or every three beers. I'm not tipping someone for opening a bottle of Bud Light when they're already ripping me off. The bartender doesn't set the price, the bar does. The bartender sees very little of that $5 bottle of beer and busts his or her ass making sure you and, in many cases where staff is small, all the other in the customers in the bar are getting their drinks in a timely manner. The bartender not only takes care of you but takes care of the waitresses who are taking care of all the folks not sitting or standing at the bar. And if you seriously feel like you are getting ripped off why would you go to a bar to drink anyway? It's pretty clear that you can get a case for the cost of a few beer so why not just drink at home? I know it's a facetious question but it's just one I wonder about whenever I hear/see people complaining about the cost of beer out at bars/resturants/etc. I don't see the point in punishing the bartender for the cost of a beer, JMO.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 11:02 AM) I confess its been a few years since I looked. But I recall having these discussions with some women in my life a number of years ago, and Cosmo was pretty bad. Anyway, just an example. Cosmo was doing what sold mag's. They're lucky in that their core readers grew up and stuck around - which is why they had to create Cosmo Girl anyway - and they were able to change but survive. In any event, this is not a new problem. People should be up in arms because it's not talked about more, jmo.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 09:22 AM) This reality doesn't change to fundamental facts. One, by using these human hangers to model clothes, you are creating a false body impression for people, since basically no one will look like that in the clothes. And second, this isn't just going on with runway models - you see it a lot in womens' magazines. Next time you are in a woman's home, see if you can find a Cosmo or something like that laying around. Most of the women in there will be absurdly skinny. Maybe W or Vogue which are more fashion geared, but not Cosmo. Thankfully they became very responsible about weight issues when they launched Cosmo Girl years ago.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 1, 2008 -> 08:29 PM) Good point. I was thinking that you should tip the checkout person at the grocery store. The process of beer to hand is almost identical of that of food to your cart. Pretty sure no one does that, and would consider it ridiculous. The scanner who stands in one spot pulling and pushing items down a ramp, no. The bagger who runs around more like a bartender than the scanner (IMO), yes. And double if they help you to your car.

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 1, 2008 -> 01:22 AM) How about the tip pool at bars nowadays?? Where all the bartenders dump all the tips into a jar and split them up evenly at the end of the night. Basically, you're tipping even the s***ty bartenders. That's been going on since the early 90's.

QUOTE (juddling @ Nov 27, 2008 -> 08:40 AM) ...or tries sounding like an expert on links between kids shots and autism I don't agree with or support her fight on that topic, but she is closer to being an expert on the matter than a lot of Doc's.

They are just animals... animals who can tell you when they are hungry, have to pee, and show discomfort when they are sick. They also greet you when you come home, comfort you when you are sick/sad, and show fright, pain, and happiness. How hunting an animal that does not depend on a human for it's existance and tourturing one that is capable of showing respect for the human that takes care of it are even mentioned in the same breath makes no sense to me.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 05:38 PM) That makes 2 of us. Probably the only 2. It's f***ing stupid. It's the only way my sister and 84 year old grandmother can see Bri on a regular basis. Something on this topic is stupid, and it ain't Facebook.

QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 09:12 AM) When you got it, you got it. LMAO!! I guess. Is it PC to just ignore the friend request...? Pretend like I never got he email.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 09:13 AM) I still don't quite understand facebook and the phenomenon. I guess I'm getting old. I did see that you and Mrs. Kap are "friends" (do I have that term right?). It is a good way to keep up with pics and stuff, for sure. Definitely the latter. And it's very helpful. I never would have known about the carpet replacement without Facebook!! :-)

So I'm on Facebook for months now - so my sister and family in Florida can see updated pictures of Bri mainly - and all of a sudden it seems my entire senior class from HS has now joined. I've stayed friends with (and by friends I mean emailed but saw in person maybe twice over the past 10 years) a couple, and in the past 3 months reconnected with several others who I now see weekly.... anyhoo.... there are some folks that I had no interest in dealing with back then and definitely want no part of now, but yet they are "friending" me...? Isn't that weird? I definitely wouldn't "friend" someone I didn't talk to back then. It's been over 15 years!!! And it's not like they have to friend me to see picture of Bri since my profile is public. Very odd.

Jim, Soxbadger I watched it again and you guys are right. I missed the previews before also so those helped. Probably shouldn't watch it when I'm half asleep on Sunday nights.
