  1. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 16, 2009 -> 10:58 PM) Wow, I'm really surprised that they are moving him that quickly. His rehab must be going really well. Looks like he can be the 4-5 starter. Maybe this was part of KW plan for the experience in the back of the rotation. I don't understand why you are so surprised. Everything I have read about the recovery process for non-athletes has him right on schedule. If anything I would say he's being cautious and taking it slow considering his physical condition is much better than then average person which generally means a faster injury recovery time.
  2. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9090020...ling-for-Hudson Encouraging news for the White Sox: Right-hander Jose Contreras, recovering from a ruptured left Achilles tendon, has lost 25 pounds and already is throwing off a mound. Contreras was expected to miss at least nine months after undergoing surgery in August. His timetable could be accelerated.
  3. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 12:40 PM) since he had surgery in mid- August, it will probably be around that time when he will bw with the Sox again. That is a conservative estimate based on rehab and throwing progress. But I don't see it any earlier than late July in the very best scenario. This is a return to the sox so he will be throwing earlier and getting ready. I'm going to choose to be optimistic on this one. By the medical book he's nearly 5 months post surgery which means worst case 3 months into rehab. I can't imagine a man in peak physical condition will take 5 more months to recover from this. I hope we see him in April, and without reviewing his chart don't think that's unrealistic based on what the the norm rehab program schedule would be. I think (hope) as with most things the Sox were giving out the worst case scenerio.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 09:06 AM) Sep. 29, 2008 - 10:37 a.m. ET According to the Chicago Sun Times, the "best-case scenario" for Jose Contreras' return from a torn Achilles' tendon next season is "late July or early August." The newspaper adds that "even that was doubtful because of the severity of the injury" and speculates that he may have pitched his last game for the White Sox. ''Things are going well mentally, but it isn't something I can rush,'' Contreras said. ''I know it's something that is going to take time.'' Are there any more recent stories anywhere about Contreras' rehab/comeback? Nope. But he had surgery mid August and according to WebMD normal folks start rehab after at the most 7 weeks. http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/ruptured-tendon?page=5 Achilles tendon Surgery to repair your Achilles tendon is recommended for active people who desire near normal strength and power in plantarflexion. An additional advantage with surgical correction is a lower rerupture rate of the tendon. After your operation, your foot will be immobilized with your toes pointing downward for 3-4 weeks and then progressively brought into neutral position over 2-3 weeks before weightbearing is started. Surgery carries with it a higher risk of infection than closed treatment.
  5. QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 10:46 PM) I'm gonna agree there. The guy is 70 years old, it'll be a miracle if he comes back. Whatever his age, he's in better shape than most 1/2 that old.
  6. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 10:46 PM) I agree. The sox should look to sign baseball players who actually get younger going into the next season. As long as they don't have bum hips and s***ty attitudes I'd be all for it.
  7. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 10:40 PM) With his injury, he may not even be back to throw off of a mound until July, let alone pitch competitively. Also: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...sp&c_id=mlb I recall the theatrics and the drama of the MLB reporting. I, in my opinion, don't see him taking nearly a year coming back especially given that baseball is all he has left.
  8. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 10:34 PM) I have my doubts that Contreras will ever pitch again for the Sox. Any specific reason or just a feeling?
  9. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 10:29 PM) The Konerko signing is fine. For what he signed for at the time it was more than fair. Right now his contract is equal to Jose Guillen's, who was signed last offseason. Konerko showed signs of life late last year and has bounced back from a bad season before. He ain't gettin any younger. Thankfully the Sox don't sign his checks for much longer.
  10. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 10:19 PM) 244 innings while in that uniform in '03. He gives 1/2 that in '09 and this signing is a steal.
  11. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 10:04 PM) So I'm assuming Dye isn't going to be traded between now and then since he is showing up to it? I wouldn't assume that at all.
  12. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 04:22 PM) Autograph seekers kind of creep me out. I am talking about the people that look like they are there simply to get something to sell. I agree.
  13. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 04:22 PM) Autograph seekers kind of creep me out. I am talking about the people that look like they are there simply to get something to sell. That being said I really do not care about that aspect of the convention. The problem with the Palmer House is it is to spread out and really seems unorganized. I think someone within the Sox organization dropped the ball when they agreed to moved there as the cost is really not worht it. 2006 was an exception to the rule. I think the last two years were subpar there really is no continuity between that various exhibits and the first year I never even saw that huge room where the fundamentals were as well as another room. The venue is notgood for that type of convention as I felt the Hyatt was perfect. On the topic of the fundamentals, which is now able to be set up as a ball field with different stations for the kids (from age just able to walk to early teens) and speaking areas, is one of the biggests draws. That never was possible due to space limitations at the Hyatt. Families can spend hours in there with their kids. People who wouldn't go to Soxfest before because there was nothing for their kids love it. And it's nice when the players "stop by" unscheduled. I disagree on the layout though. I enjoy the open floorplan way more. It's nice to be able to walk freely and at leisure from one thing to the next. They Hyatt had no idea what the hell they were doing. They were lucky over the years that more Sox fans didn't show up. It would have been moved long ago if they had.
  14. QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 03:05 PM) So basically they cut attendance and doubled prices, yet somehow the fest is at it worst and it's not the Sox fault Was able to get more autos and into more seminars in 2005 and 2006 than I was last year with the VIP pass. The whole weekend has turned into a cash cow joke. The staff is so unorganized they have no idea when to starting handing out wristbands, where to form lines, where anything even is or god forbid what time it starts. Since the move to Palmer House, this is just turned into a big clusterf*ck. Stay up all night in the hotel lobby that you just paid $250 a night for to get mutliple wristbands (for the same times) otherwise show up at 9am when the doors open and they *might* have a wristband for you to meet Brian Anderson or Ron Kittle (if you buy a book) The cut attendance because they had to and doubled the price because the expense of the venue called for it. And let's not forget that all PROFITS from Soxfest go to CHARITY... The # of autographs given are up to the players, so go complain to them, and as for that media whore Ron Kittle, don't blame the Sox for the stupidity of people to buy his s***ty book and wait in line to get his autograph. Though I've gotta say... I'm not surprised at the b****ing. I remember when the Sox GAVE away free passes to the fest with the hotel room and people screamed that they didn't give away more.. and of course after that was there were too many people.. bla, bla, bla... No matter what they do it's never good enough.
  15. QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Jan 12, 2009 -> 03:06 PM) I think it would be hilarious, and perhaps a wake-up call if they didn't sell-out all together this year. Soxfest was the one thing that took on a huge negative impact after we won in 2005. If it was organized correctly, it could be a fun experience for the fans again....lining up at 4:30am to get a Bobby Jenks autograph wristband for a session that starts at 11:30....not so much. The reason it's done the way it is now is because of what happened in 06. After winning 25K people showed up for the event. It's not the Sox fault the lines were so long. They tried to accomidate. And now that they took steps not to have lines at 4:30 in the morning people b****. It can't be both ways. 10K controlled is much better than 25K uncontrolled anyday. Don't blame the Sox for making it safe.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 6, 2009 -> 03:54 PM) Well, being a student, I signed up. As any fan should. Good luck.
  17. It's a nice PR story and all... but how about rewarding the existing season ticket holders who, in these financially challenging times, support the White Sox passionately and unconditionally.
  18. Vendors are union. Unless you know someone currently in you wont have much luck as the wait list is long. Not sure about ushers. We've had the same 4 rotating in our section for the past 5 seasons. Seems they stick around awhile.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 30, 2008 -> 03:04 PM) While I agree, you also have to consider that holding a special election for that seat would almost certainly require an amendment to the Illinois State Constitution making it allowable. Given the time that would take, combined with the time for primaries, an actual campaign, etc., you'd probably be looking at the seat being vacant for at least a year, in which case you'd almost have to appoint someone as a tentative holder of the position anyway. By far the greatest concern is the cost. This state is already in a financial hole the size of a Florida sinkhole after a month of rain. As for Quinn, he's been very vocal bashing Blago pretty much immediately after the election and I don't agree he knew about the crooked stuff. IMO, most of it was kept out of the office anyway and soon Rod's wife will be on the hot seat. I won't be surprised to see she's the "brains" behind the crimes.
  20. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 30, 2008 -> 12:32 PM) Does anyone still see ushers walking the aisles during movies? They should be inside the movie room at least once every 20 mins. looking for those kinds of people. I shouldn't have to miss part of the movie just to go find them. At both Cantera and the theater on 95th & 59 the ushers are insane. I know they are doing a much needed service and I appreciate it, but sometimes they are so out of control it's not funny. Removing someone should not involve stopping the movie, turning on all the lights, and making an event out of it. The power trip and the fact that they are usually 16 years old is irritating.
  21. QUOTE (Sec101Row1 @ Dec 29, 2008 -> 08:52 PM) I do. The 3/4 & 3/5 games correct AND they will also play the cubs in Vegas. These are split-squad games. 1/2 the team goes to vegas and 1/2 the team stays in AZ. These are all away games for the Sox so I wont blame them for this scam, its thebankrupt Cubs. The 6th is a world Baseball game.ST Updated Schedule Link If they stay split squad games then things will not change. From what I have heard the players are voting for everyone to travel to LV. And if they do stay split squad games those in Vegas will have the better time. And if they all go to Vegas the odds that the game on the 6th is changed is good.
  22. QUOTE (Sec101Row1 @ Dec 24, 2008 -> 01:39 PM) Thanks for the tip. Not shure if White Sox employees would include the players since they have less than 100 rooms, but I put a room on reserve anyway. I scored 4 tickets in Section 3 (just past the Sox Dugout) Row 1 on the Aisle for all 15 games in Glendale, although I will only use the last 5 games, I'll dump the first 10 games on soxtalk or e-bay. Many of the players that aren't staying at their homes or with friends are staying at either The Phoenician or The Biltmore.
  23. March 4th and 5th are wrong on this schedule. I have not found a corrected one, but for anyone planning to travel to AZ for either of those days, be aware that the Sox will be playing in Vegas. No idea if the 6th on will remain the same. No one seems to know the answer to that.
  24. QUOTE (G&T @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 02:13 PM) She looks like a man. That.
  25. QUOTE (Sec101Row1 @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 12:05 AM) It better be sunny and 85 out. Sunny, maybe. 85, not likely.
