Agreed. Opening day, no matter how crappy, means: winter's OVAH. I cannot wait. Hey speaking of which will all the seats finally be green this opening day?
-
-Ding-dong "Next stop, 35th." I know most of you drive in but this is what you hear on the El. It's now a pavlovian thing: walking under the El tracks and hearing that ding-dong sound, I immediately think: Sox. -Jimbo's (yes! Alive for one more at least!) -Finally breaking away from the crowd and heading for the gate, watching the tailgaters -When you first walk in and that smell hits you (from all the grilled onions)--best smell in the world -Walking onto the concourse and taking it all in for the first time that day (in the outfield) -The opening video -"Thunderstruck" -Even though I've been there how many times, I still duck when the fireworks go off after the intro because I forget they're coming. Every time. -Can't wait for: Elvis night, Cubs/Sox, my first Friday night game, coming straight from work downtown.... Ahhh... Feel free to chime in on my little Corona commercial here...
-
So we get another summer of Jimbo's?! HURRAY! THat's AWESOME! I really was bummed thinking I didn't get to say my goodbyes! Now I'm REALLY psyched about 2007!

From what I remember last year there was talk of doing our own patio party but the mods knew with the minimum required to make it worthwhile for the Sox, we wouldn't have enough. I was at COTC this year for the first time--the A's game which was Frank's first back at the Cell. You know, the one with the squirrel, LOL? I have no problem with them or what the event is called. We're all in the same boat. Or, as Al Sharpton said on TV last night: "Since we're all in the same ark let's try not to crap on the floor."
-
Seriously Steff? I thought they had closed their doors and cleaned the place out!
-
I just remembered that. So what will be the home base? Everybody's going to go west now a few blocks? I'm curious what other Soxtalkers will be calling home in '07 for pre- and post-game.
-
QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 1, 2007 -> 06:32 PM) They have little leaguers in there practicing during the week at 4 and I think their games start at noon on Saturdays. I think there are 8 or 10 teams so getting the field on a Saturday might be tough. Okay so scratch that then. Looks we'll do what we always do: "El" surfing contest between Roosevelt & 35th. Don't try this at home, kids!

May I suggest if you're having trouble on the phone with the CPD somebody going to the office in person? Sometimes you can't hack through the bureaucracy on the phone and in person you'll have more luck. If this is a downtown thing (the office) I'd be willing to give it a crack. Let me know.

Softball ......... who wants to play on 5/26?

You can count me in. -
That would be awesome. I would go.

Okay, finished this book and I ABSOLUTELY recommend it to all Sox fans. Great read, lots of fun. More about what it's like to be a fan then a historical book, but there certainly is a ton of history about the culture of the Sox (in fact a whole chapter). Great stuff about the infamous Disco Demolition, Harry Caray's years, the terrible descision to put the Sox on Sportsvision (remember that?!), and the difference between Cubs & Sox fans. The meat of the book is the Sox from 1970s on when he was old enough to go. I enjoyed because it wasn't until '80 that I was going so you get to hear cool stories about Dick Allen and Bill Melton (before my time). I've now got this book on my Sox shelf with all my other memorabilia. Very entertaining read. If you ever read Sports Guy (Bill Simmons) and are familiar with how he writes about his beloved Red Sox, this is somewhat similar (very funny, but with an obvious love for the team). THUMBS UP.

Actually everybody the Man Law commericals for Miller Lite are done. They've been discountinued. While they were popular and tested well, Lite's sales didn't move. That was the last of them. Source: AdAge

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 31, 2007 -> 02:32 PM) That's what Mack is for - LF. If you really need a righty bat here and there, then go with Ozuna as a PH. I think we are really reaching if our concern is "righty backup outfielder". That's way, way down the list of concerns, behind things like starting pitching, starting pitching, starting pitching, Juan Uribe, leadoff hitter, CF situation, defense in general, Ozzie's managing, injuries, young bullpen, and a few dozen other things. Winnah. I second this. Pitching/defense (defense starting with: Uribe?). What is the latest on Juan anyway? Is the judge gonna let up on him or what?
-
Repeat after me: pitching and defense. Pitching and defense. If you have it, they will come. Er win. We'll be there anyway.
-
If you are caught on camera in the seats behind the batter in the shot, on your cell and waving like a damned fool, you will be tasered and dragged out.
-
If i recall correctly they disappear in this order: Cubs/Sox Boston/Sox Yankees/Sox Whatever novelty NL opponent we'll have this year I always wondered what the BFD was about Boston and after having been to those games, it's that they have a ton of fans here.

I didn't like last night... boring. The father thing should be interesting though. And LOL at the president's assistant weasel: gee do you think this guy was modeled after Karl Rove or what?
-
No. That's not what I must mean.
-
Okay this episode is BORING. Something needs to blow up, stat.
-
Yeah baby here we go. Brother! Father! Ex married to brother! And do ya THINK that kid is not his? Do ya?

I'm only 20 pages in and already was laughing my ass off at his description of Hawk--hilarious. This is some really, really good stuff. When he talks about Sox teams in the 60s and 70s and the games, I can totally picture it even though I was hardly old enough to be watching baseball. So far, so good. He gives a lot of shout-outs to other Sox books and baseball reference materials. Did you know there's a site where you can get a box score for any baseball game going back to 1960? I do now.

Great to hear they got it right after last year's embarassment. Question: do you think it was simply that they're on the ball again, or that all the bandwagon jumpers fell off after '06, LOL? Or both? I remember when they f'd up that Fan Appreciation Day thing at the Cell and I wrote them a letter explaining how I thought they shafted people and they actually CALLED me, which I thought was classy. I think they do listen to us, which is nice.
-
The more I think about the pitchers this year the more excited I get. I always enjoyed Buehrle as the O.D. starter (thanks for getting us out in time for the Illini game that year, dude!) and thought that was the tradition but didn't realize it's who was the #1 the previous year record-wise. Fine with me. Shake things up a bit.

Just got it today finally from Amazon. Can't wait to read. I'll post what I thought. Love the pic of Old Comiskey on the cover.
