  1. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 17, 2006 -> 09:52 AM) Here's a hypthetical situation. If the Sox could trade Garcia in the off-season for prospects e.g to the Pads for Carillo and someone else, then trade Uribe and Pods in another deal, if the Dodgers paid a bit of the contract, so you would have to pay about $9-10M each season (same as you would for say Jimmy Rollins), would you consider acquiring Furcal than instead. No, I wouldn't. As far as I understand, the point of trading Garcia is to trade him while he still has any value at all as a 'big game pitcher' and to dump his contract. Adding Furcal where we would pay him 9-10 million would mean we aren't dumping any contract, and still have nearly 100 million tied up in 15 players or so. If we traded Uribe (who is better defensively than Furcal) and Pods, we'd be saving probably about 5 million (without looking at the numbers, so I don't know how accurate that is), and thats without including whoever we'd get from the Padres. It just doesn't work out for me.
  2. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Aug 17, 2006 -> 09:41 AM) Frucal for Gload. Do it. No thank you. Seriously. Unless the Dodgers cover that entire horrible contract, I don't want to see Furcal anyway near Chicago.
  3. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Aug 17, 2006 -> 01:57 AM) Really, there is no reason for the Sox to lose a single game to the Royals. The Sox have a better lineup, better starters, better bench, and a better bullpen entering each game. I would have been OK with winning 3 of 4, but going 2-2 (and that really is no certainty) is pathetic. Really, there is no reason for the Sox to lose any game to any team in baesball. The Sox have a better lineup, better starters, better bench, and better bullpen than nearly every team on paper. How dare they EVER lose?
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 17, 2006 -> 12:43 AM) Well, our split-squad lineup of Pods, Mackowiak, and Gload in the outfield all messed up at least once tonight. Our offensive approach was awful, as we had at least 10 high pop ups, and guys still are acting like they've never seen a changeup. So basically, nothing new on the offensive side. Thanks for the summary, even if its painful
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 17, 2006 -> 12:37 AM) It's the biggest ass kicking I can remember in the last two years. Dare I ask you, of all people, but was it Ozzie's fault? Or did Count geniunely suck?
  6. I missed tonights game, and it looks like a good thing that I did.
  7. QUOTE(Harry&JimmyRocked @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 04:30 PM) duh, bill james is connected with BP and he's considered a god by good ole billy bean Billy Beane. Billy Bean is a different player.
  8. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 09:48 PM) Wow, ST is a snausagefest. It's pretty lonely up in Minnesota (and still will be when I actually am living where I put my little marker on that map)
  9. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 10:37 PM) The very same Luke Hudson who gave up an 11 spot or so to Cleveland in one inning last week? It wasn't an inning, it was a third of an inning He was actually pretty good though in most of his starts before that one.
  10. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 10:28 PM) They are pretty much the same player. Except Pierre earns a much higher paycheck.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 10:26 PM) It would be useful if he learned to protect the plate, and fight off borderline pitches. He can't keep being such an easy out once there's 2 strikes on him. I agree, but if it means walking much more, I'm not too pissed that he strikes out that much more either.
  12. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 10:24 PM) Why does our leadoff hitter constantly take strike 3. The same reason he walks so much more than he did last year.
  13. That was the type of pitch Crede drives when he's swinging the bat extremely well.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 09:56 PM) We've had bad base running, bad pitching, bad hitting, and bad defense. It really is just one of those games. Is this really fathom?
  15. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 09:55 PM) this game is painful Cue someone saying 'this is the toughest loss of the year'. Then, cue me exploding.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 09:52 PM) I know I'm a pessimist, but I think that most people could see the 6th inning was a disaster waiting to happen. Even I could, which is why I posted that I agreed that Javy should be taken out after the 5th QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 09:52 PM) im hoping that theres a number out there that says paulie is hitting .400 with 2 outs and RISP .242
  17. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 09:51 PM) it was a terrible decision because paul had a 40% chance of getting a hit. Just out of curiousity, where did you get that number from?
  18. It's pretty sad that was only a single. Nice play by Brown out in left.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 09:46 PM) Don't worry, the score doesn't resemble how the game has really gone. Dye dropped a fly ball to allow one run, and our runs were a gift from the umpire and then a TERRIBLE decision by Cora to run us out of the inning. I wouldn't say a gift from the umpire because that was a very difficult call, but yes, from the replay it was clear that Uribe was out.
  20. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 09:46 PM) The good news is we still are going to see KC pitching the rest of the evening. Yep, this game is far from over.
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 09:37 PM) A double play would be huge.
  22. Yea, I don't see why he was sent there, and I usually defend Cora.
