  1. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 03:25 PM) This game has pissed me off more than any all year. Short-term memory? I seem to remember people saying this after nearly every single loss this year.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 03:24 PM) Yeah, he's gone overboard today. Take a step back Tito....it will be ok! Just today?
  3. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 03:21 PM) It's okay guys, we went 6 for 9 on this roadtrip, against two of the worst teams and then the best offense. Oh wait, did I mention the Tigers swept? We went 6 of 9 on a roadtrip where 2 of our 3 best hitters were aching and missed a handful of games. I'd say this roadtrip was a huge success, and as fathom said, who cares about the Tigers?
  4. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 03:22 PM) Half of us here could do a better job than Ozzie at managing the bullpen, period. Your posts are funny to read, I'll give you that.
  5. QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 03:17 PM) why the hell can't we complete these sweeps, even with our best pitcher goin....SOAB Contreras is not our best pitcher.
  6. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 03:13 PM) So wait, you can only hit leadoff if you have hit leadoff before? You're logic is flawed. I didn't say acquire one of them, if you read the post correctly, I said acquire one like them. Find some guy with an OBP of like .380 hitting 8th in the order, and give him a shot at leadoff. .380 at the 8 spot is a waste to the extreme. There are 25 players in baseball with an OBP above .370, and I'm willing to bet most of them are going nowhere, or are like Mark DeRosa and having a career year. Players with high OBP's don't grow on trees.
  7. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 03:08 PM) What exactly does Pods do well. He works a lot of pitchers and walks a lot more than he did last year, when he was apparently the greatest thing since sliced bread.
  8. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 03:09 PM) And those 5 are good leadoffs hitters. We should work to acquire one similar to them. What, do they grow on trees? Kevin Youkilis is going nowhere, Alfonso Soriano's asking price around the deadline was way too much, Dave Roberts is having a career year, and Grady Sizemore is going nowhere. The only other one I didn't mention is Ichiro, who was unhappy with Seattle, but I doubt they'd trade the face of their franchise.
  9. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 03:06 PM) By real, I mean with a leadoff guy that can get on base. Seriously, think of how many MORE runs scored we'd have if Podsednik had an OBP of around .400 (hell, even .375) like a good leadoff guy. Yes, because so many leadoff men have an OBP around .400. Only 5 players have an OBP of .375 or more when batting #1 in the lineup.
  10. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 03:05 PM) I've disliked Podsednik ever since we've gotten him, but how is this offense not 'real'? It's the best in the league in runs scored... Don't you get it? The team isn't in first place, so the offense is just imaginary. It's all Pods' fault that the offense is only first in the league... and Uribe's too!
  11. Am I the only one who just heard the batter yell something like "fishing" after hitting that ball? I'm watching the Toronto broadcast..
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 02:46 PM) I don't get it. Burnett throws hard, and Molina throws well. Apparently, Molina has had problems throwing runners out this year. I always thought he had a strong arm too.
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 02:40 PM) For anyone who saw the replay....could Dye have caught the double by Rios down the line? With the way Dye has played the OF this year, no.
  14. QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 02:26 PM) He wont, and doesnt deserve to this season He has a chance, mainly because his offense is so much better. His defense isn't nearly as good as last year, but with the better offense, he has a much better shot at winning one.
  15. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 02:19 PM) Pods weak arm allows the runner to score from 2nd. Yea.... right. Has anyone said JCINAA yet? (and yes, I just showed up. I was out shopping for the start of the game )
  16. QUOTE(cuddlyboy26 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 11:20 AM) I thought it was a disgrace Crede did not make the all star game. It was so unfair, it was just plain wrong and awful. The ASG was in July.. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 11:28 AM) So now we know what Crede does on his days off.
  17. QUOTE(gosox41 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 09:07 AM) Scotty is good for one thing--stealing bases. If he's not stealing he's useless. His OBP isn't that good. He has power. His defense is below average. IMHO, he should try to bunt for hits more because with his speed he could beat a lot of them out. He could be a better bunter. Bob If he's not stealing, he's useless? No. If he's not stealing, then whoever is making the decision to keep him at first is smart. With Iguchi, Thome, Konerko and Dye coming up behind him, he shouldn't be risking a stolen base. Pods is incredibly underrated around these parts, but thats not saying he's a superstar. His defense has had some horrible moments this year, including the most recent misjudging of a linedrive/flyball (whatever you want to call it), but as of late (apart from the previously mentioned misjudged ball), it hasn't been that bad. He does an excellent job making a pitcher work and seeing tons of pitches, and is a great leadoff hitter when he's hot. His season has been statistically better than it was last year since he's shown much more power, but people are hating on him because his stolen bases are down (even though he's still projected to have 49 at the seasons end, and he's still stealing at a similar rate as last year, 71%).
  18. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 12:19 AM) UZR? A guy in the Cardinals organization, I think, came up with UZR (Ultimate Zone Rating), so I would guess that that's what they're talking about. That's not exactly new though, it's been around. I don't think that its been public though since ~2001, so that could make some sort of sense (I wouldn't know if it were public now either though).
  19. Does Cleveland just suck at defense or what? Seriously, what the hell?
  20. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 08:49 PM) Anyone else following him? Now has his average over .350 for the Dodgers with a .568 slugging pct. Doesn't draw a ton of walks, but doesn't need to. He will come down and crash, just like Jeff Francoeur.
  21. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 08:04 PM) In this case, yes. Manny Ramirez getting put on waivers back in the offseason before 04 maybe(not sure which year it was) was a huge deal because it was irrevocable(sp?) waivers. I thought he was referring to last year, when, IIRC, Manny was put on waivers (just like a lot of other players) after the deadline. Good call on the year: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1650053
  22. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 07:08 PM) I don't think he gets the 10/5 rights for a few days. Sorry, he's getting them on the 15th (which the article says if I had bothered to read it ) QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 07:34 PM) Not quite Feel free to correct me. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 07:08 PM) To me this isn't that big of news at all. Manny Ramirez was put on waivers in the past but nothing happened with that. I'm assuming nothing will happen with Andruw Jones either. Just about everyone gets put on waivers. It doesn't mean much.
  23. QUOTE(JenksForPrez45 @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 06:42 PM) Does anyone know who claimed him? No.
  24. Javier Vazquez made Hawk's day. He's going to go for a walk now
