  1. So the Texans finally show that they have balls. Unfortunetly for them, they do it at the wrong time.
  2. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 11:01 PM) I LOVE when mlb.tv takes their broadcasting audio underwater like this!! At least its not just me hearing it, I've turned off my sound
  3. MLB.tv is having audio issues.. goddamn it Everything is echoing itself
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 06:43 PM) Why are you going to miss it? The Cubs game is already over. Thus, you shouldn't have to have to flip between your two favorite teams. I'm going to see a friends band at 8, and they are playing a 2 hour set, meaning it ends at gametime, so I'm thinking I'll miss the first inning or so.
  5. I'm likely missing the start of this game, but should be able to see most of it. Go Sox
  6. Does Thome not get votes for not being a 1B, or what? Maybe I'm just blind, and am the only one who doesn't see him.
  7. QUOTE(T R U @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 04:45 PM) Whys that "The Midwest 12" sounds like a boy band, not an conference of colleges.
  8. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 12:19 AM) I think a fan as defined by the word the term was derived from would only have one team that they like. That doesn't mean that every other team in the league is hated. There is such a thing as having no strong feeling about a team. I just can't imagine being a fan of any other team but the White Sox, and I can't understand how anyone can claim to be a fan of more than one team. Well, I consider myself a fan of both the White Sox and Cubs. I support the White Sox first and foremost while following them much more, but if they aren't playing, I support the Cubs. I'd rather see Chicago have success than another city anyday of the week. If that makes me not a fan in your eyes, so be it.
  9. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 07:21 PM) [...] to be fair, it really isn't the GM who is truly making this pick. He's at the mercy of his scouts. Tell that to Billy Beane
  10. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 07:18 PM) Are we talking fan of one team as in you can't like any other team but 1 team, or in that you have 1 primary team that you cheer for, but you also have others that you like but aren't necessarily a fan of them? See, I consider someone who roots for a team on a somewhat consistant basis a fan, but thats just me. In that sense, I think you can be a fan of more than one team, especially when the two teams are in two completely different leagues.
  11. QUOTE(T R U @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 12:25 AM) They could change the name to The Midwest 12 Better than being the Big 10 with 12 teams That is a horrible, horrible name.
  12. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Apr 26, 2006 -> 11:09 PM) This game is too fast, we need an intermission or a game of red rover to break it up. No, I'm tired and want to sleep
  13. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Apr 26, 2006 -> 10:32 PM) Man, if only Kong got that Sexson grounder. Its the second inning and the game is FAR from being over. Its not that big a deal really.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 26, 2006 -> 10:29 PM) Widger and Konerko are our two best threats vs Washburn tonight. Dye hits him well. wtf is this Mark?
  15. QUOTE(Drew @ Apr 26, 2006 -> 05:42 PM) The only team I really hate is the Yankees. Exactly, same here (the Mets are trying to be hated too, but we'll see)
  16. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Apr 26, 2006 -> 01:21 PM) The term "fan" is derived from the term fanatic (click on the word to see its definition). Notice the definition specifically says a cause, not several causes, some of which can be against one another. How, therefore, can one be a "fan" (as defined above) of two teams who, in general, dislike each other and don't want to see the other succeed? Sounds like the exact opposite of a "fan" to me. They are in two different leagues. I'm a White Sox fan in the AL, and a Cubs fan in the NL. If the two teams play each other, I'm rooting for the Sox by far, but if the Cubs are playing the Marlins (or any other NL/AL team thats not the Sox), I'll root for them. I follow the White Sox much more than the Cubs, but I do root for the Cubs when I watch them. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 26, 2006 -> 10:17 AM) One big difference is the Sox and Cubs have about 5 generations of rivalry to fall back on with them having both been original league teams. The Mets didn't show up on the scene until the 60's (1964 I believe) and it is hard to build the same kind of rivalry. You can bet that if the Dodgers or Giants still were in NY those rivalries would be as intense and spiteful as the Sox/Cubs. Realize that Chicago is the only place that has had the same two baseball teams for all 105 years of MLBs official exsistance, no one else can say that... not even close. Excellent point. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 26, 2006 -> 04:55 AM) What gives anybody the 'authority' to decide who is or isn't a fan? People can enjoy the game of baseball in any way they see fit. Someone can be a die hard Soxfan and still mildly pull for the Cubs, Cardinals or whoever. I think this concept of making rules about or defining what is being a fan is garbage. Fans achieve there own level of fandom based on their interest level, and thousands of other factors that are unique to any particular person, like time availabilty (to actively follow the team), location, financial matters, etc. But to criticize someone because they are a different type of fan as you, or to call them a non-fan, is ridiculous. In fact, it's snobbish. Excellent post. I think thats the same deal with traditions at ballparks as well (such as what you put on your food)
  17. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Apr 26, 2006 -> 12:57 AM) How does he get a save? Makes no sense. If you throw 3+ innings of relief with a lead to end a game, you get a save.
  18. I'm tired as hell, but that was quite entertaining
