QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 05:09 PM) I throw up at the idea of a Chris Young and Sean Tracey deal for Overbay. Thanks but no thanks. I wouldn't deal Chris Young at least not for Lyle. I agree.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 04:15 PM) There is also some talk that Ozzie wants some more speed behind Podsednick. So why not make a run for Damon? If we can't resign Pauly- why not Dye play 1B and Damon plays RF? Damon and Dye were teamates in KC and im sure he would play some sort of role of getting him over here? Imagine this: Pods LF Damon RF Dye 1B Thomas/Piazza DH Pierzynski C Iguchi 2B Rowand CF Crede 3B Uribe Ss Not too shabby and still have to core of the championship team still here. What do you guys think? I would cry from misery if I ever saw that lineup in Chicago. It would produce less runs than the lineup last year, and would basically just suck in general. Damon will not be coming to Chicago. He is a defensive bum with one of the worst arms in the league, which is the opposite of what this team is based around.

I'm a few pages behind, but still. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 13, 2005 -> 11:08 PM) I'd rather have Carl over Mike...no question. Add me to that list.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Nov 13, 2005 -> 04:45 PM) meh, i've never really been all that excited about Benson. Bad pick IMO. I agree, but now that he's here, I won't not support him.
-
yea, but still, its carrying three catchers. One might be a DH mainly, but it's still three catchers. Having a DH which plays other positions fits into the Sox style of play more.. I mean, that was one of the reasons Blum was hanging around last year, his ability to play more than one position well.
-
Erm.. didn't we just resign Widger? And isn't Widger.. like.. Widger? I don't see us carrying three catchers.

My brother hated the Chief when he was at Illinois for undergrad. He's rather happy right now.

QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 05:53 PM) Yes he can... he actually reads the ball betetr from CF form what he said in a interview. Played a Solid CF for the Brewers. Actually, according to stats, he was better last year in LF than he was in 2004 in CF.

QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 05:27 PM) How can you say that? Rowand had one good year, and one not so good year. Pierre has been a very good offensive player his entire career. Pierre brings more to the table with his speed and contact hitting then Rowand does with this inconsistant play on the offensive side of the ball with his undisaplined manner at the plate Rowands OPS last year, when he sucked offensively, was better than all but two of Pierre's seasons, and one of those seasons was in Colorado (2001). Rowand also had more doubles than Pierre has ever hit in a single season in his career last year, and Rowand reached base on walks/HBP more than Pierre did last year (and around the same amount of Pierre's seasonal average).

QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 05:23 PM) Rowand dint light up the offesive stats... He is solid on D, but if any player is tradbale it is him. Pods can play a very good CF himself if needed.. Abreu would be perfect for the Sox, and if we keep Paulie , we would be a much better team ten fold than with Rowand. I know that, but he has more potential for lighting it up than Pierre does in 2006.

QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 04:44 PM) I never said that Pierre was a better defensive player then Rowand. The fact is when you look at the player as a whole, Pierre is better then Rowand, and there is no way around that For this team, Rowand is a better fit. We had problems scoring runs as it is last year, do we really need another leadoff hitter?
-
He's a good contact hitter, but defensively, he boasts an arm to rival Johnny Damon.

QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 02:51 PM) Pierre isnt that bad of an outfielder it comes down to this is everett and rowand better the pierre and abreu...the answer is NO Pierre is crap. Plain and simple.

SouthSideSox. I've browsed the others, but don't really read them.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 11:59 AM) It was a jab at Jeter and such... Come on guys, I didnt even think I needed green there.... I figured as much, but wanted to make sure, since some people do think he deserved it.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 11:44 AM) Umm Keith, He won a Gold Glove this year, He must be deserving if he got a GG. green?

QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 10:07 AM) how in the world can you assume brian anderson's numbers in 2006 by looking at the mariners centerfielder's numbers in 2005? Before the Freddy Garcia trade, Jeremy Reed was basically what Brian Anderson is right for the White Sox. He was the next big thing to come in centerfield, and very similar to Brian Anderson. His numbers in Charlotte in '04 were similar to Brian Anderson's last year, except he had many less AB's because of the trade, and struck out much less. His overall numbers in AAA (both in Tacoma and Charlotte) were quite similar to Brian Anderson's last year, and while they are different players, you can make an educated guess that their numbers would be similar in their first year in the bigs.
-
Reed's numbers on the road aren't much better. Yea, they are better (.705 OPS), but they aren't as good as Rowands.
-
Abreu has been mentioned in other threads

QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 03:57 AM) To all you guys that think Anderson would step in and put up similar numbers to Rowand, let's take a look at something. I'm shocked noone has made this point yet. Jeremy Reed was the next coming superstar before he was included in the Garcia deal. He had a half season of ML experience in 2004 after being shipped to M's. So, how did his 2005 numbers compare to Rowand? Reed - .254 3HR 45RBI .322OBP .352SLG .674OPS ARow - .270 13HR 69RBI .329OBP .407SLG .736OPS Reed came in below Rowand in every catagory. He was much more ballyhooed as a prospec than Anderson is now. Reed had a half season experience under his belt as well, so he knew what to expect more than Anderson will. I say it's very very possible that Anderson's numbers come in under Jeremy Reed's if he's given CF next year. In fact, Rowand has a better chance of achieving Rowand's 2004 numbers than Anderson has at achieving Rowand's 2005 numbers. Very good point, those are basically the sort of numbers I would expect Anderson to put up.

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 10:02 PM) If it means anything, Levine was on 1000 and said KW was giddy because teams were willing to talk trade already and Levine says the Sox can afford Delgado and Konerko without a salary dump of sorts. Think of all the HR they each would hit in The Cell..

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 10:05 PM) You used Rowand's stats from 2001-2003 after he was called up as justification for why it was a good idea for him to be called up. No, I didn't. Look at his numbers in 2002 when he played over 100 games and had 300+ AB's. Is that really justification? You misinterpreted my post. Oh yea, and if anyone missed it: Aaron Rowand (22 years old, .758 OPS in AA) = Called up by the Sox in 2001. Brian Anderson (23 years old, .831 OPS in AAA) = Not ready for the majors imo.
-
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 10:03 PM) I'm not counting on the bat being brought in to DH. I'm assuming the Sox were to lose Konerko here. If the Sox retain Konerko, then it brings it into a whole new light. I've been under the assumption that the Sox hold onto Konerko, although I might be wrong. Nice sig (the Cy Young part )

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:59 PM) I just wanted to know how you make sense of that. How could the guy with worse stats in the minors be ready for the majors but the guy with better stats needs one more year of seasoning, according to you? Did I say Rowand was ready for the majors in 2001? Because I don't remember those words coming out of my fingers. Oh, and if anyone didn't know. Aaron Rowand (22 years old, .758 OPS in AA) = Called up by the Sox in 2001. Brian Anderson (23 years old, .831 OPS in AAA) = Not ready for the majors imo

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:50 PM) Rowand for Abreu would be sweet, if Philly would do it and Bobby is Venezuelan, another Ozzie brother. If Philly did that, they would have to be admitted to a mental hospital. That being said, as a Sox fan, I'm fine with it happening
