  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 07:33 AM) I have said repeatedly during the last couple days that Anderson doesn't throw out Cuddyer at the plate, and Griffey doesn't make the catch in the 9th. Anderson has a better arm, but the first time I see him hit the target at homeplate, it will be the first. Griffey doesn't have the range that Anderson does (duh). I'm fairly confident that BA, or anyone this side of Johnny Damon for that matter, could have thrown Cuddy out at home. That's how shallow that ball was hit.
  2. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 09:09 PM) Wow! All of the displeasure with Wise is exactly what a not-smart person would say. He's definitely been in a slump for a week plus. Swish was in slumps for months at a time. Someone complained that Wise strikes out too much, evidently without noting that Swish has 135 strikeouts in 153 games. Wite, you said you don't think he's all that fast. He's always looked fast to me, and is 9 for 9 in stolen bases. Clearly not just a Owens-like track star, he's slugging .450 (better than Swisher)- hit 15 homers between AAA and the majors this year in about 320 at bats. And on a team full of walk/strikeout/homer sluggers, it's pretty darn sensible to have him in there to vary the attack. Seems clearly like a case of Sox fans only being able to remember the vary immediate past. He's had a bad week. Overly emotionally react and say he sucks, forget about hating Swisher and his .219 batting average because you haven't seen him play in a while. Yet one of them is a career minor leaguer and the other has a proven track record that offers some hope.
  3. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 09:02 PM) We already have 8+ pages on the game thread and this game hasn't even started yet. (not till tomorrow in fact) The game against the Twins had 22 pages before the first pitch.
  4. QUOTE (IamtheHBOMB @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 07:05 PM) What is with the ridiculous start time? Many baseball fans are going to miss the playoff games broadcast during their work or school day. I don't have to work tomorrow, but I do have class and will likely miss most of the game. I'm guessing this is due to MLB saving their most "attractive" matchups for primetime. Weaksauce nonetheless. I'm skipping and picking up a six-pack on the way home. The Sox are more important than my "Business of Sport" class.
  5. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 05:14 PM) It wasn't nearly a near perfect play, either... Griffey did a really poor job of setting himself up to throw to begin with. He was somewhat flat footed. He didn't get behind the ball well, and caught it on the glove side of his body. He then didn't throw it with a ton of momentum. It worked because it was right on line to the plate. Got a bit lucky when it just carried the mound, and it hit the very front part which allowed it to skip in pretty quickly. Without that, he's probably safe as he kills AJ before AJ can grab it. The best party of the whole play was actually AJ receiving it without f'ing it up and then holding on after getting nailed. Anyone that actually has an arm (BA included) would have reached home without having it bounce like Griffey did. It was accurate, but damn he was lucky that it didn't pop off the mound awkwardly.
  6. Swisher, BA, Dye But with the options offered: Griffey, BA, Dye
  7. No reason to go down to their level and be just as classless. Really, I hope people treat fans of the other team with respect as opposed to how they treat others. There's no reason to be an asshole to a fan of the other team unless they're going out of their way and asking for it. I've been a fan of the opposing team in nearly every game I've gone to in my life, and nothing bugs me more than when other fans are just disrespectful just because they have 20,000 fans rooting for the same team.
  8. I'm sorry for thinking this season was over after we were swept by Minnesota in the HHH. Now the Sox need to apologize for sucking horribly in the only three games I got to see in person this year.
  9. Finding out in the middle of work about this made my day. Awesome job by Danks, who has clearly made the leap to be considered one of the leagues best.
  10. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Sep 30, 2008 -> 12:07 AM) How about Anderson in left and Griffey in center. I've had enough of Wise starting and I've been a huge supporter of him. I'm not a big Thome fan, but I believe he should be starting because of his power threat. Yes, lets put an inferior fielder at a more important defensive position and the better fielder at a less important position. That makes total sense to me.
  11. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 30, 2008 -> 03:13 PM) OC WISE DYE THOME KONERKO JR ALEXEI AJ URIBE
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 30, 2008 -> 01:32 PM) Morneau Lee Longoria They all deserve it. Please explain how Morneau deserves it. The man is the only person in baseball with 400 PA with runners on and has had 558 runners on base for his at-bats, good for first in the majors by 43 runners and first in the AL by 74. Include the fact that he's choked down the stretch during his teams most important games, and the fact he's not even the most valuable person on his team, and it's baffling that so many people thing he deserves another MVP. Not many people steal two MVPs in their career, but if he wins it this year then he'd have done it.
  13. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Sep 30, 2008 -> 02:55 PM) I have class from 6-9 tonight. Goddammit. I can't miss it either. I work tonight, and can't miss that either. Today sucks.
  14. QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 30, 2008 -> 11:30 AM) Too bad bureauemployee isn't around. I'd like to hear him explain how his scouting analysis last winter missed on Alexei. Profiles to be nothing more than a utility guy... the next Omar Infante, eh? (good natured ribbing intended) Wait.. scouts are wrong sometimes? No way!!!
  15. Someone posted it in some other thread, but there is no way I'll be able to find that. I have to work tonight (of course), and can't find someone to cover for me so I have no chance of getting to watch the game. Anyone know a service that will txt me with updates whenever someone scores? I found this (http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/mobile/teamTxt.jsp?c_id=cws) but it looks like that only updates when I send the message, which I guess I could do but would prefer not to.
  16. QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Sep 29, 2008 -> 08:54 PM) Judging by those numbers, we should play Anderson. He should be starting anyway, regardless of those numbers.
  17. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Sep 29, 2008 -> 08:49 PM) Should the SOX play Swisher over Konerko tomorrow? http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8120/b...gVFGxmRtxWFCLcF No.
  18. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 29, 2008 -> 07:01 PM) What is a blackout? Everyone wears black so the douchebags wearing Twins clothing stick out.
  19. I came into this game thinking the Tigers were a pitching staff away from the playoffs. It's pretty obvious now that they also need a defense of sorts. Also: Juan seems to be reaching on a lot of defensive misques lately. It's kind of funny.
  20. So many wild pitches. This is getting embarrassing.
  21. I'm impressed Hawk didn't give us the old 'stretch' on that JD fly out.
