QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 10:26 AM) Lowell is good BTW. But I think we are going to see if in house players can fill the void at 3B BTW, where is the market for Crede? I havent heard ANYTHING Boras sent out a press release saying that Joe is about to start skill activities. He'll probably hold a workout at some point.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 08:01 AM) If they can get Abreu for something like $15-18 million for two years (guaranteed) and an option for a 3rd, it's okay. The most athletically gifted (if healthy) of the possible FA LFers is probably Juan Rivera. Milton Bradley would have been up there before all of his various injuries. Maybe Hermida as well. I agree Dunn, Ibanez, Abreu and Burrell don't bring much to the club (or are actually detriments) defensively. Then again, we can't have Endy Chavez playing LF either. If Ibanez just got 3/$30M then I wouldn't be shocked to see Abreu get the same. I'd be surprised to see the Sox move Dye if Abreu is almost the same price.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 03:34 PM) Not a huge Jennifer Aniston fan but check out her GQ spread this month. Make sure you click the slide show. I think she's hotter than Angelina Jolie these days.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 09:50 PM) I don't see Bobby Abreu signing with the Reds, regardless of whether or not they are interested in him (they need a righty bat, not a lefty bat) at this stage of his career. I would think he is ours for the taking if we do indeed get this Dye deal completed... I agree with you, but, as I posted in the other thread, any savings the Sox get from signing Abreu will likely be passed to the Reds for the prospects. Until we have a better idea of Abreu's value is in this market, no deal will be made.
-
QUOTE (beck72 @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 09:32 PM) Not sure if this was posted. Sounds like what's holding up a deal is the Reds will give better prospects if the sox add cash with Dye. If I were the sox, i'd add cash so we get the better player in addition to Bailey. http://www.daytondailynews.com/s/content/o...1108spreds.html That information has been out there for a couple days. Until we know what the market will be for FA outfielders, particularly Abreu, nothing is going to happen with this deal.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 02:57 PM) If i was any good at making these kinds of things I'd definitley get to work on a CR/AP avatar. It really has been an important part of the off-season entertainment.
-
QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 02:43 PM) We are gonna lose bailey to another deal-while Rome burns & Nero (KW) fiddles It has happened to him before-for all the kudos he gets about making deals, he also has procrastinated himself out of players he has wanted in the past Yeah and what if Bailey sucks next season? Will you then say it was a brilliant "non-move"? And what if the trade happens and Cooper can't turn Bailey around? Then dye is gone and your 4th starter is stuck in the minors and we're left with CRAP (no slash). All KW wants is another prospect to make this deal a good one in case Bailey doesn't pan out.
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 02:42 PM) Jesse Rogers just vehemently shot down the Abreu rumors on the Score. Guesses Dye won’t go. That's because there haven't been any discussions. No other hitters have signed yet and there are younger outfield FA's waiting to set the market. I can't imagine anything happening until Christmas. Unless Dunn and Burrell suddenly sign and we get a better idea of what the price will actually be.
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 12:56 PM) Wow, did Hendry seriously kill a Peavy deal over Mark Derosa? That cannot be the case unless Hendry is an idiot. I think that's a cover for not having the money to finalize the deal and being too scared to tell Cubs fans.
-
QUOTE (quickman @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 12:21 PM) Like I said it depends on what Dye brings us, but really I thought we would go for a younger player. I am not convinced this will happen. i hope it does, but somthign just doesn't add up yet. I think they are targeting a young outfielder that's still a couple years away and a pitcher for Dye. Essentially, Abreu would be a stop gap until the outfielder would be ready.
-
What will it take to get Abreu? 3 years, $24M-27M? I can't imagine anything much less. I'm imagining a scenario where Dye is traded and the savings goes on to the Reds. It essentially becomes a wash for the Sox salary wise.

Rumor: Yankees to trade M. Cabrera to Brew Crew for Cameron
G&T replied to LittleHurt05's topic in The Diamond Club
To be fair, Melky posted a .360 obp in 2006, his first full season. He's only 24. The Brewers dump salary and get a young center fielder who they probably think just needs a change of scenery. -
People have to start linking rumors, not just putting a source. The rumor from the Sporting News. However, the NY Daily News doesn't appear to have this rumor on their site and there is no link to it from the Sporting News. Edit, I found it: Here is the actual burb: Actual Link

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 10:00 AM) That's actually an interesting possibility also. I think he'd prefer hitting #2 or #3 though, and KW and Ozzie may try to use Owens or Taveras in CF as the leadoff man (not popular I know). The Sox tried that experiment with Swisher last season. Of course, Abreu is better than that, but I don't think that's Ozzie's first option. T-minus 2 hours until KW claims no discussions have taken place.

QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 09:45 AM) alrighty one the w sox with have move abreu to Lf Due to strong comments of quentin playing his natural position. Getting someone exact fielding of dye. I dont expect w sox sign abreu. This is why you have to list where you are from. So when you stroke out we know where to send help.

Whoops, Dunns gone
-
Burrell makes no sense because they have Dunn. Burrell can't play right. That leaves Abreu, which would make sense except he's probably pursued by the Cubs who might over pay for him, especially if they don't get Peavy.
-
QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 05:14 PM) from what i've read, beckham doesn't have the arm to play 3rd (or short..), and he was projected as more of a 2B, though the Sox are firmly planting him at SS in the minors until he's brought up Yeah that's what I thought and has always been my assumption. I though I might have missed something.
-
What are the chances that Beckham can play 3rd? B&B were talking a couple hours ago about Beckham and felt he was going to be in the majors early in the year and playing 3rd. If that's the case, then it opens up the possibility of Furcal.
-
QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 03:48 PM) would you do dye for sonnanstine? No. Sonnanstine is only good against the Sox. He's not a good pitcher and certainly not what KW is looking for in a trade for Dye.
-
Don't know if this was posted but this is from Stark: Linky Tampa has been discussed in the Dye sweepstakes.
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 03:38 PM) Apparently, the Reds bartered the Orioles into giving them more money in the deal. How best can they spend the money? You tell me… Unless the Reds just don't have any money.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 02:58 PM) That's what I've heard about almost every teams' interest in him. I think he and/or his agent made a huge financial mistake rejecting arbitration. I think he made a huge financial mistake by acting like a jackass in a city that actually pays attention to its baseball players. He would have had a contract extension before the market collapsed or could have left with a better reputation. Now all the bad news is out there and it cost him.

Listening to the Score (Murph is awful), and these idiots think DeRosa is more valuable to the Cubs than Peavy.
-
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 02:37 PM) I don't think he's a safe bet either, just saying that perhaps some Sox people would think that. I'm just trying to come up with a reason to explain why the Sox would pass on Bailey and then go after the Braves prospects again, knowing that Hansen is off the table (he was deemed untouchable even in the Peavy negotiations). Probably because this deal won't happen. Unless the Braves are willing to dealing something of value that the Sox need, they aren't getting Dye.
