QUOTE (WCSox @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 08:58 PM) My point is that they're booing Wise for being in Chicago, rather than Charlotte. It's not Wise's fault that he's currently in over his head. They should be booing Kenny instead. And how do they do that? Stand outside his office?

Wise I feel sorry for you.

Another projection has White Sox at +/- 84 wins
G&T replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If MB actually ends up being injured or something, then we have a problem. However, MB is projected to have the best ERA at 4.57? I think Danks will be better than that and MB will be far better if healthy. However, the overall assessment is probably right. This team had enough questions that 84 wins is a reasonable guess, but enough talent that it can make the playoffs if things go right. -
Isn't that a pyramid scheme?

QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 21, 2009 -> 04:49 PM) I like Paul Rudd better with his Anchorman mustache. I am interested in seeing Role Models, though. Role Models was bad. It had its funny moments, but overall it was not good.

QUOTE (The Beast @ Mar 10, 2009 -> 11:49 PM) I think next semester all I'm going to do is take general education requirements and electives from various areas that I'm interested in. This is essentially what I did when I was your age and confused. I took all my pre-reqs and decided on a major based on the pre-req that I enjoyed the most. I had an awesome history prof and I ended up with a History degree. This has another benefit. When you do figure out what you want to do, you will have all the garbage classes out of the way and your last couple years in school will be much more enjoyable.

QUOTE (The Beast @ Mar 10, 2009 -> 07:59 PM) I thought about your idea, too. What kind of doors do they open up? JD's are useful in a lot of professions. If you decided to get an MBA, having a JD/MBA is extremely marketable. If you want to teach, a JD is a teaching degree for college. If you want to write (about law) you will have that at your disposal. Of course, it is also quite expensive. There are also jobs within the legal community that are not lawyer jobs. But at your age, I don't think you should aim to be a Westlaw trainer. Here is an article that discuses both sides of it.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 10, 2009 -> 07:17 PM) You and Balta are the guys they happened to choose when they were test-marketing this stuff (unfortunately for them)... Dude, you have no idea. When I was younger I wanted anything that I saw on TV. I would have bought a Bag-o-Glass.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 10, 2009 -> 06:53 PM) A delicious disaster. All this time I thought I was the only one who like Crystal Pepsi. I also liked Coke II. I don't know if that makes my opinion more or less credible.

QUOTE (The Beast @ Mar 10, 2009 -> 01:53 PM) The fact of the matter is that I have not had a drink yet and have declined to do so until my 21st birthday. I've pretty much stopped caring about what everyone thinks, too. Sorry I mentioned alcohol, because I really wanted to focus on academics here. Edit: On my run today, I was thinking about Psychology. I don't know, I have this gift about listening to people and offering advice. Sure, there is more to that, but for someone who can analyze someone's feelings, it might be a good job to look into. I think the reason I've been so anxious in classes and bored in school is because I haven't been interested in anything we've studied in English or Communication outside of the gen eds that I took last year. Maybe I should take some Psychology and Business courses next semester. If you want to listen to people and write, there's always law school. That way you can punt and take any major that gets you to graduation. English and history majors are quite popular in law school. Law degrees can open a lot of doors even if you don't want to be a lawyer.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Mar 10, 2009 -> 04:01 PM) I think it's actually only called Hungry Jacks in my own state back home, in most others I think it's still Burger King (how that works I don't know). And yes everything Aussie (Burger, Pizza) comes with egg and bacon usually. Still tastes like #### though. As an international trademark (and even if it weren't international), Burger King cannot use its name in places where the name is already established. I'd guess that when Hungry Jacks was built, there was a business in the area called Burger King. Also, I've never had this BK shot thing, but it is not better than Whities. Can't be.

If it comes down to money, then Mexico might be the best bet. But I've been to Maui (never been to Mexico) and I can say, IMO, that the Hawaiian islands are a place you have to see before you die.

Trib What I especially love about Phillips' "analysis" is that Piniella was in Seattle when they brought in Ichiro among other Japanese players. He probably understands "assimilation" better than most.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 04:58 PM) I have AT&T DSL. It seems every time the phone rings my internet connection goes out for a good 30 seconds, this can be incredibly annoying when you're doing something that requires a continuous connection to the internet. I know DSL runs off the phone line so that makes sense. Does anyone else have this problem? Is it common? Do you have a filter on the line?

QUOTE (The Gooch @ Feb 27, 2009 -> 01:57 AM) So if 16 year olds can make decisions like an adult and be tried as one, why can they not smoke, drink, or vote? It has also always bothered me that individuals can join the military and vote at 18, yet they are not seen fit to drink alcohol. I don't understand how someone can be trusted to vote in our country's leaders but yet they are not allowed to drink. I would say that the laws are constantly evolving and remember that there was a time that at age 18 you were able to vote, drink, and smoke, and own weapons, etc. Then a lot of people died from drunk driving at age 18 so they raised the age because it was a hot button issue at the time. Just think about prohibition. That's how laws are made sometimes, and the result can be non-sensical. For a bit of background I looked into the history of the law related to 16 year old being tried as adults. Based upon a bit of research I did on NY's statute, the law appears to go back to the 1930's, which means 16 year olds were expected to be productive members of the family rather than degenerate high schoolers, but I don't know what the drinking and smoking laws were. There may not have been any, and, likely, they weren't really enforced. The law, however, was not meant to punish 16 year olds, but to protect 15 year olds and younger. As a random bit of history, the Supreme Court declared in 1988 that execution of a person under 16 under and Oklahoma statute, which provided no minimum age, was cruel and unusual punishment. Today, there is a ridiculous amount of violence resulting from teenagers, and I think people are plenty happy in the knowledge that they can be put away for a long time. Whether that's right or wrong is up to you.

QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Feb 26, 2009 -> 04:12 PM) Why is it that the law allows juveniles to be trialed as adults. Whats the point of having an age that distinguishes a juvenile from an adult if we are allowed to circumvent it. For criminal law purposes, 16 is the age of majority in most states (certainly in New York and Arizona). The fact that the press calls them juveniles is meaningless. Remember that 16 is the age you can drop out of school and can work, etc. You can make decisions like an adult, you should be tried as an adult. 18 is only a significant age for the purpose of federal law, as far as I know.

First, there is no such thing as a sign and trade in MLB. If you sign a free agent, you have to wait until June (I believe) to trade him. Second, Cabrera already said that last year was the worst season of his career. He hates the Sox and the Sox don't like him. On top of that, the Sox aren't going to shell out any more money to risk getting caught holding Cabrera.
