Not even Bernie is a full-blown socialist. His policies are actually pretty in line with Democrats from a few decades ago.

Engel or May? I would have said clearly May, a year ago. But I'm starting to get where they are about equal in my eyes. Both have plus speed, Engel may be just slightly faster. Both defend center field well. Engel has a much better arm. May has a better feel for hitting, but has no power. Engel has significant raw power, and his contact rates have improved (though still aren't great). Engel's ceiling is higher - his reasonable ceiling, to me, could be an above average starting CF in the majors. But May has a higher floor. I'd suspect that when I vote for the new T30 in January, those two will be pretty close in rank.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 04:27 PM) Turner isn't going anywhere until at least the spring. Carroll could, but I don't see a compelling reason as of today. Beck is going no where. Beck also hasn't pitched since June with elbow soreness. They probably don't need to protect him, but likely would just to make sure.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 09:11 AM) Nostalgia shows can be a blast, Mr Too cool for school When i was in college I saw Digital Underground 3 times and Run DMC twice in Carbondale, and they were so much fun Oh hell I'm older than you and almost everyone on this board I'm guessing, which is why I felt comfortable poking fun at Tex. I remember fondly my Def Leppard cassette tapes and, yes, I had Styx on vinal.

Winter Leagues Preview - Sox minor and major leaguers
NorthSideSox72 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
When we did the preview, the PR and Aussie League rosters weren't out yet. They are now. No Sox down under this year, but one prospect (and ranked one at that) was added to a Puerto Rico team roster. Article at link in OP updated to reflect that. -
QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Oct 30, 2015 -> 08:19 PM) Engel is easily the most impressive CWS prospect in the AFL, 5 SBs to go to an awesome offensive statline, Glendale's catcher Andrew Knapp is an interesting trade target for s, AA catcher with some pop and a solid bat, he's in the PHI organization jammed behind Alfaro now, should be available Engel's performance is the most impressive, but I'll still take Michalczewski over him for prospect value every time. I like Engel, but not as much as Trey.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 30, 2015 -> 10:18 AM) Greg is black and packs a Glock? That might be one of the most memorable threads of 2015. What part of "when I saw the headline" wasn't clear? That's why it was funny.

Sox to hire Greg Sparks as Ast Hitting coach
NorthSideSox72 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 30, 2015 -> 09:21 AM) Greg Sparks is a great guy, with great insight and results. As he is reunited with old pal Todd Steverson, it brings to mind a balancing of the universe (Yin and Yang); blending of opposite strengths; Steverson’s gregarious and Sparks’ lower-keyed personalities. Sure to be a winning combination for the Chicago White Sox Major League team. Between that and working with Chris Carter, we're absolutely set for a new generation of hitters. Or not. Kim Contreras must be related to Nardi or Jose with the Merkin/Rongey editorializing at the end. Results>great guy. Kim actually knows both Greg and "Trick" Steverson. She's been a writer around the A's for over a decade. She takes the human angle more so than the scouting angle most of our writers take, but I like having that as part of what we do. It is important. -
QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 30, 2015 -> 05:17 AM) http://kfor.com/2015/10/29/mans-post-about...top-goes-viral/ When I saw the headline, I thought this would be about Greg's traffic stop thread on SoxTalk.

Sox to hire Greg Sparks as Ast Hitting coach
NorthSideSox72 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Want to know about Sparks? Turns out in addition to his Oakland commonality with Steverson, he's also got a deep history with the White Sox. Detailed here. -
QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Oct 29, 2015 -> 11:56 AM) http://deadspin.com/chris-christie-flips-o...anta-1739388837 Deadspin has the video in the above link. Thanks - I've got the debate recorded, watched the first half last night, plan to watch the rest sometime soon.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Oct 29, 2015 -> 11:44 AM) Regulation of daily fantasy sports sites is an issue in Washington at the moment. So that's certainly a relevant question (though there are certainly more important policy issues that should be discussed). In fact, given Christie's attempts to legalize sports gambling in New Jersey, it's arguably quite relevant to Christie in particular. The fact that Jeb Bush took the question as an opportunity to gloat about his non-daily fantasy team being 7-0 made the question seem stupid. Oh so the question was about the legal issues? Fair enough, that makes sense. I haven't seen that one yet.

QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 29, 2015 -> 09:57 AM) i really like the update. many thanks for your hard work ... now, i don't know, but for me, it appears as this yr group of AFL players the sox sent are not a good group. now i am surprise in a couple of players.... Engel is really coming into his own, esp since June and July.... however being moved to 3b..... i hope he develops more power. Delmonico - i have or starting to loose faith in him. i really had high hopes. Pete - i like to see more of him next yr. he may be somebody to watch. pitching beside Brennan and Leyer, i just don't know. again many thanks to all who assemble this info. I think it is overall a stronger group than years previous, but different. Years before, you'd get a couple really big prospects, a couple in the middle, then org guys. This year there is less high end talent, but zero org guys. Peter Tago is the pitcher to watch more than any - and he has had a good year overall.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 29, 2015 -> 10:55 AM) I thought Fox did the best, CNN they were a bit of pushovers but fair, but these guys were the pits. I thought their were a lot of bad questions that I had no interest in. The fantasy football question to Bush was just horrid and to be frank, their were a couple times where I felt that it was the moderators who were flat out lying (vs. the candidates). Republican's need to get some of these guys out of the race. Carson had an interesting strategy...just stay a fly on the wall...yeah you won't take a step forward but I think he knows this is not an arena he shines. Carly and Rubio continue to dominant the debate format and it looks more an more evident to me that eventually, when the dust unfolds, Rubio is going to be the next candidate and he is one of the guys on that stage I'd vote for. I'd vote for him, Jeb or Kasich and to be frank I have no issues with Christie or Carly either. I actually think Carly would be the best but I don't think she can stand up and beat out the smear campaign they'll push on her (including her own audio bytes from the layoffs / outsourcing). To be frank, those sound clips don't bother me, I understand the realities of business, but it just isn't a rhetoric that a huge voting base will get their arms around. I'd love to see Carly blow Clinton out of the water, it would just be amazing TV. Rubio will have to take a closer look at his tax plan though, zero capital gains taxes are going to be a tough selling point given who directly benefits (you can argue indirect benefits of it...but the direct benefits are the wealthiest people in this country). I agree on Fox doing the best debate so far, no question. I only watched the first half, so I didn't catch the fantasy football question - that's pretty stupid.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 29, 2015 -> 09:56 AM) Gotta agree with LDF, debates really are just theater. Eh, I'll actually disagree, to a point. There is theater involved of course. But my personal view is that the debates are much less theater than almost everything else that goes on during campaigns. Why? Because, whether questions are good or bad, it allows us to see the candidates think on their feet. Sure some of what the say is pre-prepped - but some isn't, where as stump speeches and the like are 100% pre-cooked. I like the debates. Not everything about them, but more so than almost any other aspect of their campaigns. The only exception, I think, is written policy statements from the candidates - those are my fave. Debates are a close second.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 29, 2015 -> 01:55 AM) Losers of the debate tonight? The media. Why are the hosts so rude and so blatant in their attempt to get the candidates to blast each other? s***, they should have just said: "Mr Trump, what do you hate the most about Mr. Carson?" Or "Mr. Carson, what do you hate the most about Jeb Bush and the Bush family in general? They were so obvious in their disdain for the Republicans and wanting the Republicans to self destruct. In contrast, they treat Hillary at the debates as if she indeed is the most respected person in American history. I DO NOT GET IT. The Democratic candidates aren't paying these media members; why the hell are they so one sided? It's not like Hillary Clinton gives a f*** about the media and yet they worship her and try to make tonight's debate a ridiculous catfight/dogfight between the evil, unqualified Republicans! I only got to watch the first half, will watch the second half tonight. I only saw two questions that involved asking one candidate about another - seems like a reasonable level to me. What they did do - which is good and bad - is they called out candidates on some problems in their policy positions, statements or history. Well guess what? They should do that. Now a couple of them were over the top, granted. But this is where the GOP shows badly, for the most part. They come off as whiners. Cruz gets asked a question right in his wheelhouse, elects instead to go on a temper tantrum, then is shocked when he doesn't get to answer the question because he ran out of time. Dude is a jackass. Also, media bias exists - but this isn't the way to illustrate it. There have been three debates, and the "soft" one far and away was CNN (who lean left a bit, though not quite to MSNBC levels). FOX (who are of course heavily right-leaning) and CNBC (who are business-focused) were the "tough" ones. Their argument is without merit, in this case. In the credit where credit is due department - Jeb Bush, Donald Trump and sort of Ben Carson each at least partially answered the opening question. The other 7 didn't even bother to try.

I do agree with jenks on the racial angle here. It doesn't exist. There is no evidence whatsoever (that I've seen or heard anyway) that this was racially motivated.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 12:54 PM) http://fox40.com/2015/10/27/florin-high-sc...dents-arrested/ OMG! They were just a couple of 15 year old kids! lol, yeah cause that situation is in any way similar, other than it involved school.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 12:23 PM) And when she starts kicking and punching you while you do that.... Then carry her out. Would have been easy for him probably. And if it isn't, then call in backup and limb-carry her out. But only after trying everything else verbally, and more simple physically, first. But that didn't happen anyway. The cop screwed up, pretty badly. He was fired, as he probably should have been. A CHILD who has no weapon can virtually never represent enough danger to that cop to justify his actions.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 10:30 AM) Like the stuff around Hillary? Oh wait, she is a Dem so that gets whitewashed. Which do you mean here? What corruption? I think I've made clear I am not a Hillary fan, but I don't know of a ton of corruption stuff being around her. I might be forgetting something.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 10:13 AM) So take out the throwing her to the ground part, you think he was wrong to put his hands on her to begin with? I'm pretty sure that's his job - if someone is being unruly (arguable, but that's what he's going on) and she's not leaving per his orders, he has to get physical at some point. So if he's doing that and she starts wailing on him (we don't know) then yeah, he still went overboard and became way too physical by throwing her around, but at the same time she also asked for a physical response from him. I'm assuming the punch/punches came before he became physical, otherwise why are the news reports referring to a third video that shows something that is not in the first two? Maybe i'm missing something. School officers are supposed to get specific training on this sort of thing. You don't pick her up and throw her on the ground in any case. You try to talk to her, understanding she is a child - you can't just bark an order then use big force. If the talking - and I mean a real effort - doesn't work, then heck, drag the desk out of the room with her in it. Or hand cuff her and pick her up - carry her out. At worst.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 09:43 AM) I lied Kasich is probably the only one that isn't a nutter. Maybe Jeb too. Rubio. And my money is on him to win the nomination. Christie is moderate (compared to that field) policy-wise, but he's got behavioral issues that make him come off as a little nuts at time.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 09:18 AM) Northside, do you have the list of guys that will be exposed to Rule 5 if unprotected? Sox are in a position to make a bunch of claims of guys like this. Cubs in particular have a lot of guys Rule 5 eligible. Astros in the same boat. Future Sox may do an article on the Rule V eligible guys. Need to compile the list.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 09:06 AM) He is still in the minors. And doing pretty poorly. In A ball. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 09:07 AM) Nieto was already outrighted. He is off of the 40 man roster. Yeah, because no one will claim him. But I think in Smith's case, he could be claimed.
