QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 02:23 PM) Law does not hate the White Sox I don't think he ever hated the White Sox. I do think he had something against KW. It has been amazing how much less negative he's been about the Sox system and prospects just in the past few months. Which is kinda funny, since the drafts have improved... and the last draft was still KW's. Anyway, now with Hahn in there, Law seems much less negative, so maybe we'll get a more clear-headed perspective from him going forward.

2012-2013 Sox off season Catch-All thread
NorthSideSox72 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Thread in the FS area, with link to FutureSox article about Moskos, Reckling, Brackman and the other "project" arms going into 2013. -
A look at some of the highly talented, but so far failed, arms that the Sox picked up recently: Reckling, Moskos, Brackman, others. And the Coop Will Fix 'Em phenomenon.

QUOTE (southside_hitman @ Feb 2, 2013 -> 01:09 PM) A Left handed bat at first is always good, but this guy would be one of the only Left Hand fielding first baseman I can remember. Mike Squires was the last White Sox first baseman that I recall who fielded Lefty. Now Squires was fantastic defensively but just think how hard it would be to field that position for most Left Handed infielders. *If* he can hit and catch ground balls, perhaps he can try to switch to playing 3B in the Minors. The low cost/low risk Lars Anderson deal is similar to the acquisition of Left Handed hitting Catcher Bryan Anderson from the Cards. Both were once touted prospects that barely made it on a Major league roster, then kind of fell off without really getting an extended look at that level. They both have a chance now because we need LH hitting and will need more power after Dunn is gone (which might be this year). I would say it would be easier to field the position left-handed than right-handed. The angle of reception for throws from the infield biases towards the 3rd base side of the 1st-2nd line, simply because there are more infielders and more ground balls that way - that favors a lefty who can extend wider and not run into the baseline problem. Also, for throws on the infield, he has a shorter pivot to make before throwing.

Also, Keith Law published his org list today, but it is for Insiders only.

SSS is now releasing their list, a Top 10, in two parts (wonder where they got that idea, LOL). Top 5 are: Hawkins, Sanchez, Thompson, Snodgress, Rienzo. Will release next 5 this afternoon.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 02:24 PM) Considering we have a terrible start catcher I've seen you post this twice... but never seen you say why you think this is the case. He's been projected by Bill James to put up a better OPS than AJP, his minor league career shows some promise, and his defense is already better than AJ's without much doubt. So where are you getting this? I mean, he might be terrible... or not.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 01:49 PM) This year's Conor Jackson? Or Dan Johnson. Insurance on PK/AD.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 31, 2013 -> 05:44 PM) Do I want to admit that the only activity I haven't already completed on the Star Trek: Into Darkness app would require me going to San Francisco? There is an app? Also, I happened to notice, there is a longer (2 minute) preview on iTunes for that now. Did you see it already? I assume so, just checking.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 30, 2013 -> 09:20 PM) Goddamnit, this team should be f***ing undefeated in the Big 12 but instead sitting at 4-3. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 30, 2013 -> 10:00 PM) this entire sport is stupid I only got to see the box score... what happened down there? Looked like a bunch of weird fouling at the end? -
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 28, 2013 -> 07:02 PM) Been at this for more than 30 years, if you ever have any questions let me know! Given who he works for, I don't think he'll be hurting for outdoor expertise.

QUOTE (IowanSoxFan @ Jan 28, 2013 -> 04:41 PM) http://www.minorleagueball.com/2013/1/28/3...system-rankings Ranked 28th. Well, that's better than 30th like we have been in recent years.

FutureSox Top Prospects, 2013 Pre-Season

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 28, 2013 -> 12:31 PM) Yeah, I was high on him at the beginning of last season, but I was very underwhelmed with him in the 2nd half. I think he should be more like #9 or #10. As noted in the write-up on Castro, opinions vary a lot. Thing is though, we've gotten indications his 2nd half performance wasn't just plain old not pitching well. He had some nagging issues, and got tired out due to some mechanical issues. I think you'll see him improve a lot in 2013. -
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 28, 2013 -> 10:33 AM) I haven't been able to do a trip like this for a few years now...and it'll be on hold again this Summer as well...next year, however, I may have to make a return trip. The best part of that area is you can go there and never see the same route twice if you so choose (aside from the starting points, anyway.) Oh, and if you've never read this...it's awesome. http://www.amazon.com/Lost-Wild-Danger-Sur...ost+in+the+wild Ooooo, never seen that book before. Just added it to my list, thanks! I've been in Quetico, I think, about 10 times now. Put in at 5 of the 6 official put-ins (this year I will do the 6th), been all over the park, and I've seen maybe 5% of the lakes.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 28, 2013 -> 08:33 AM) Do you drive out there, or fly in to get to the Canadian side? Last time I went, we left out of Eli...I figured that was enough road travel at that point and it was time to get in the boat. We've done both sides... but always drive. This year is Ely, American side, specifically Crane Lake. Then into the western part of Quetico, with a boat hop to the border from the US side outfitter. But I've also done the put in from Canada, which is like 5 more hours of driving (or more). Either way it is a long drive. We've looked at flying before, but it is somewhat impractical and way more expensive.

Canoeing in Quetico (Canadian side of the Boundary Waters), for a week, in August. That's the only one on the books for this year for us. Looking forward to it. It is amazing how different planning these sorts of trips is now, compared to 20 years ago. 20 years ago, doing a trip like that meant a simple map and a compass that only worked some of the time (Canadian Shield iron problems)... now, you can lay a route, campsite data and portage locations into your GPS unit ahead of time, along with background maps with contours.

2012-2013 NCAA Basketball thread

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 26, 2013 -> 10:31 PM) The Tech loss is still by far the worst in 10+ years, but this is a good start. At least it's early enough in the conference season. Need to get thru the next four at 2-2. Nothing tops the 2001 loss to Hampton in the tourney. Nothing. I assume that is the game you are referring back to. 2-2 would be good, give them a decent chance at 20 wins in the regular season, and that will likely get them in to the dance. 3-1 would be great. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 26, 2013 -> 05:26 PM) Congrats, Heads. Ahem... The loss to TT still hurts, can't believe they shot 35% against the worst shooting defense in the conference. But the win over KSU is really nice. That KSU game is the start of the stretch that I think will define just how good this ISU team is or isn't. KU is far and away on top of the B12, and then you have four teams that are just not even in contention for anything post-season (TEX, TT, TCU, WVU). Tha leaves a whole mess of teams in the middle-upper ranks, that includes KSU, ISU, OU, BAY and OKST. How they play against that pack is what will tell you how good they are. Starting from today, IS is on a stretch like this: KSU, @OKST, BAY, OU, @KSU. -
QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 26, 2013 -> 05:25 PM) Santiago will at the least be starting the season with MLB club, with Danks unlikely to be ready (by design IMO). I also wouldn't be surprised if Axelrod is the one to get the long man spot, we've liked putting players we see as fringe starters in our bullpen. Omogrosso could do that job as well, but I'm not sure what they'll do with him. Are we sure Molina will be in AAA? He didn't exactly dominate AA last year and Charlotte isn't exactly a pitcher's haven. It wouldn't surprise me either way I suppose. Leesman might be able to provide us a spot start, but I really don't care about him either way - he's been around a while and is left-handed which is absurdly not a need right now. I see Stewart starting in AAA. I'd be shocked if he does anything other than that. I agree it is likely that Santiago is in Danks' slot to start the season, but maybe only for a start or two. After that, he really should be in Charlotte starting. Omogrosso isn't a great candidate for long man - he's a short reliever, and he has a history that includes arm injuries and surgery. He's also highly velocity-dependent. I suppose it is possible Molina is in AA again, but I think its unlikely. I'm sure it depends a lot on how he looks in spring camp.

Saw something last night about Hahn liking the BrYan Anderson acquisition, and it seemed to indicate maybe Gimenez doesn't have the backup C job locked up. Anderson hits LH, and has a shot at it. What do people know about Anderson's defense? And who would you say should get the job, based on what you know prior to Spring Training?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 07:30 PM) Molina and Santos Rodriguez have to be in the discussion, somewhere. Miguel Gonzalez made at least two Top 10 lists. Then you throw in Viciedo and Ramirez. But yeah, the lack of players from Dominican is the sore spot. I think you have to go all the way back to Jesus Pena. Paddy seems to be more concentrating in/on Venezuela in terms of his area of expertise. He said "by us". Molina at S-Rod were not signed by us. Also, what Top 10 lists had Miguel Gonzalez on them? I'd be surprised if his name was even on anyone's 25 at this point. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 12:02 PM) Nope. Meaningless baseball on the radio is brutal. Especially when I'm looking forward to listening to B & B on my commute home, and instead it's a bunch of minor leaguers playing ball. I understand how people watch on TV, but spring training on the radio kills me. Hm. I'd rather listen to Brittany Spears singing while scratching her nails on a chalkboard than listen to sports talk radio, but I guess that's where we disagree.
