  1. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Feb 4, 2012 -> 06:34 PM) Quality of those top 100 wins is different though when it's Kansas/K-State/Texas and UNLV/Colorado/Colorado State. Iowa State also hasn't lost to a team outside the top 25 (at the time) since UNI on November 30, and only two losses all year outside the top 25 (UNI and Drake). Both teams still have time to earn it, though. EDIT: Whoops, I was also wrong on ISU, they lost to Texas a couple weeks ago when they were unranked. I realize I am an ISU fan, and I see what he is saying... 2 losses in pre-conf that should have been wins, and a similar record in-conference. Win against KU vs win against UNLV. But, ISU's SOS on Sagarin is 47th, and Wyoming's is 224th, so their schedules are not even in the same ballpark. ISU's 2 wins against Top 25 teams are KU and KSU, who have SOS's of 2 and 35. Wyoming's 1 was against UNLV who has a 61st SOS. ISU also with 3 wins vs Sag Top 50, Wyoming with 1. Basically, Wyoming's win looks a lot more flukey that ISU's. Iowa State is on the inside right now, and as long as they stay Top 5 in the B12, they are 95% tp be in. They are currently 4th, and definitely in if it ended today. Wyoming is 4th in the MWC, who may get only two, but more likely 3 bids. 4 is possible but unlikely. Wyoming is on the outside looking in at the moment - they need to catch UNM, who they play next. But both teams have 3 games left against ranked opponents, so we'll have to see.
  2. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Feb 3, 2012 -> 01:33 PM) Yep. I'd also wager Jim Gallagher is more likely to see a call-up before Dan Johnson. This is a Charlotte fodder move, as been said. I'd say Johnson is way more likely than Gallagher. I don't think the team sees Gallagher as anything, and if Johnson actually can play a little corner OF and/or 3B in a pinch, he may have a shot at the bench.
  3. I think Tyler Kuhn may make the bench. He'd be my surprise pick I guess.
  4. Here is the NRI list: RHP Brian Bruney LHP Leyson Septimo LHP Eric Stults C Damaso Espino C Hector Gimenez 3B Dallas McPherson SS Ray Olmedo OF Delwyn Young OF Jared Mitchell OF Jordan Danks OF Brandon Short OF Trayce Thompson RHP Jacob Petricka RHP Brian Omogrosso C Michael Blanke C Josh Phegley 1B Jim Gallagher 2B Tyler Kuhn
  5. Well, first, there are the three or four open bullpen slots. Reed is probably in, but beyond that there is a list of 10 to 12 guys vying for those spots. That might be fun to watch. There was a thread in here a while back with a list of those. Then there's the bench. Flowers and Lillibridge are in, but then you've got Ozzie Martinez, Tyler Kuhn, Dan Johnson, and a few others vying for 2-3 spots there. And Humber is probably in the rotation, but there is an outside chance for others.
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 3, 2012 -> 12:58 PM) Klaus Badelt composed the song that was in POTC and remixed into the song they played during the WS montage prior to games. The Saint soundtrack is indeed a good one. Yup, I believe the POTC music you hear at Sox games is a combo from two tracks on that album: Swords Crossed and... something else, forget which. Bedalt's stuff sounds a lot like Zimmer's, and I am pretty sure that he is Zimmer's student.
  7. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 3, 2012 -> 12:18 AM) I made a Hans Zimmer playlist to listen to while a workout. It's incredible. If anyone has any suggestions, pleas let me know. I've got music from Inception, The Dark Knight, Pirates of the Caribbean, Lion King, Cool Runnings, The DaVinci Code and Gladiator. Another Zimmer fave of mine: Backdraft. Got some pretty inspiring tracks on it. And if you like big soundtrack scores like that, also look for Klaus Bedalt (who actually did POTC - not Zimmer). And try the Tron soundtrack, which is a mix of techno and orchestral stuff from Daft Punk. The soundtrack from The Saint is also great for workouts, same with The Matrix (both albums).
  8. QUOTE (oldsox @ Feb 3, 2012 -> 10:20 AM) Kussmaul had great stats last yeat at Winston-Salem; never understood why he wasn't held in higher regard by Sox. Here's hoping 2012 is big year for him. Old for level, UDFA pedigree. He's a little like Remenowsky in those respects, but started even later, a year or two later. Kussmaul turns 26 this year, Rem is almost the same age but started in the system in 2008 and has seen AAA. Kussmaul hasn't been higher than A+. That said, if he turns heads in B-Ham, he might see a mid-season promo to AAA and find himself on the radar.
  9. Komen reverses course, restores PP funding.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 3, 2012 -> 10:00 AM) Chairman of the Joint Chiefs reportedly told Israel that if they choose to attack Iran, they will be on their own. That's the kind of move you make when you expect something to actually happen. And it just came out today, Iran is blocking IAEA from gaining access to one of the nuke facilities.
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 3, 2012 -> 08:40 AM) http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2012/0...-to-8-3-percent edit: private added 257k, 243 net job gains. November revised upward to 157,000 added (previously at 100k) and december slightly upward to 203k up from 200. If the recovery keeps up a pace like the past few months, or better, for most of 2012, the election will be a no contest win for Obama.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 04:37 PM) We already did it, except last time it was called the "Alternative Minimum Tax". And that one doesn't work too well these days either. The concept is nice, that deductions should be minimized at higher levels...but this is literally repeating one tax that has had enough holes poked in it by various mantras (no double taxation on dividends! Lower capital gains taxes are good for the economy!) that I have little confidence in it holding. With time, there's every reason to think this rule will just get more complex and have to exempt more stuff also. What are you talking about? This is the VOLCKER rule being discussed. Sounds lke you are talking about the BUFFET rule.
  13. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 10:27 AM) CNN.com posted "breaking news" earlier this am that Trump was to endorse Romney, while the WSJ was tweeting that he'd endorse Newt. The CNN blurb now looks to be down. I'm sure Trump is loving that. It amazes me that anyone gives a s*** what that jackass thinks.
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 08:39 AM) Can you recommend anything in Chattanooga? Chattanooga is like an endless Ogden Avenue, southern version. The main drag is like one giant strip of mini-malls.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 08:00 AM) But if they can say there are, they can prevent that rule from passing! (BTW, I like the concept of that rule but the way it is structured in the proposed law is silly). They want to prevent it, they may or may not be able to. And tell me what you see in the proposed method that is silly. I honestly want to know.
  16. QUOTE (SuperSteve @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 06:50 PM) Voelker Rule is getting crushed. The Govenor of the Bank of Canadacame out against it as well as other CBs. Treasuries would be exempt but not other sovereign debt, countries are scared! I could care less how scared they are. Reality is still that the money will be there, it won't have a long term negative effect on overall investment levels.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 04:20 PM) Link It will be interesting to see a final valuation number.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 03:42 PM) If this thread were really about some honest discussion, I'd be fine with it. This thread has never been about an honest exchange of information, which as I have constantly said, defeats the purpose of this forum just as much, if not more. Then do something about it, instead of playing the victim card.
  19. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 03:37 PM) Man what an epic meltdown by Balta in this thread. Shut up, liberal! I just kicked your 7-year-old off the little league team. Take that!
  20. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 03:35 PM) I'm going to do that, and I'm going to fill it with articles critical of Obama. That actually makes sense, as I know you aren't that happy with him either. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 03:35 PM) I'll just make sure not do it in the Republican nomination thread or anything because then it will hit the fan! I don't understand this post. Are you saying you expect to be able to post stuff and not have discussion come from it? Sort of defeats the purpose of the forum, no?
  21. This thread is to discuss the campaign and nomination of the GOP candidate for President. It is NOT a GOP-only zone. Now, if you want to, we can start being strict in the Dem and GOP pinned threads about content. But here is the problem... what about me? Or anyone else that isn't clearly one or the other?
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 03:33 PM) lol @ safe haven. I made a negative comment about Obama in a thread about the Republican nomination and people flipped out. Think about that for a second. Well I would agree with you about it not being a "safe haven". But seriously, the Republican NOMINATION thread, for the Presidency, isn't and shouldn't be considered some sort of safe zone in any case. And if you want that Dem Nomination thread we just discussed, same goes there.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 03:31 PM) Either that or start a Democratic nomination thread and post every slam I can find about Obama. Well there is no nomination, really, because it isn't contested. But if you want to just bash Obama... well, first of all, most of the GOP'ers in here do that in every thread anyway. But you also have the Republican thread for such things. If you want to create a brand new one that is something like "Obama Campaign for Re-election Thread", feel free!
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 03:28 PM) The real argument against this is that Mittens is currently ahead. Sorry, let me clarify. The GOP CANDIDATES FOR PRESIDENT are doing that, and the party structure is going along as well. Not necessarily the voters, though I think that is also happening, just not as extremely and only for a certain %. Romney is in the lead because of money, and because the general perception is that he has the best chance to beat Obama.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 03:26 PM) I wasn't. I made an observation to show that negative campaigning works. This entire thread is pretty much a proof that many people right here believe that, or why the obsessive need to post pretty much any negativish article that can be found about the GOP contenders? The Democrats spent eight years beating up Bush, and then they demolished him. Now the Republicans are doing the same to each other, with plenty of encouragement from the left. If people here didn't believe it worked, the leading posters in this thread wouldn't be left wingers. Then go post something positive. Seriously, I'd love to see more of that. Tell people why Gingrich or Romney or Santorum or Paul or even one of the now-out candidates are great, or at least good. I did that with Huntsman, and I've said nice things about Paul and others as well. Have you?
