Walking Out of Graduations Like Notre Dame's
NorthSideSox72 replied to greg775's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 22, 2017 -> 12:31 PM) Personally, I would have a morbid sense of curiosity about what makes them tick and to see how they work a crowd. I personally would not have walked out, but that's me. If some of my cohorts did, fine, that's up to them. Your post reminds me, my brother in law used to be a journalist for the Trib. Went to a school event where Jesse Jackson (senior) was speaking. As he was getting started, a fight broke out. Somehow, from the podium using just his words, he managed to bring things back down to level. I don't like Jesse, never have, but I would have been very interested to watch that happen. He was a gifted speaker. -
Walking Out of Graduations Like Notre Dame's

I think it's a healthy thing. Protests by nature are as effective as the level of noise they generate. They succeeded. Social protest is something to be applauded, as long as there's no violence involved. -
QUOTE (steveno89 @ May 22, 2017 -> 10:12 AM) Micker making more contact and hitting for average is a step in the right direction, but his walk rate is still terrible and he is still striking out alot. I realize he is young for his level, but without improving plate discipline it's hard for me to see him performing against more advanced pitching at the higher levels. He's made some big leaps. Yes there are more to make, no one is saying otherwise. Still great to see what's already happening.

Here's the weekly look at transactions, news items and more to cover what's been happening on the farm. Nothing was as key as the Robert signing, but there were still a number of roster moves and news items you should know about. Catch up!

Scouting reports in the FutureSox article with videos, if you want to see it (also a separate thread).
-
Luis Robert has apparently signed with the White Sox. Get to know Robert by reading this article, which includes multiple videos and scouting information. Robert immediately becomes the 2nd or 3rd best prospect in the system.

Here's more content from Kannapolis. In-depth reports on six arms (Flores, Lambert, Comito, Morrison, Dopico, Escorcia) with exclusive video and some quotes from some of them. Some of these guys have intriguing profiles and there is some major league potential among the group. Any of these six you are excited about? Did the article or videos change your mind one way or another?

QUOTE (FLsouthsider @ May 18, 2017 -> 07:39 PM) What's up with Jameson Fisher? Is he hurt? Took a foul ball off his shin/ankle area. Bruised up pretty bad, but no DL, he's day to day we are told.

Our weekly update on how the Top 15 prospects (plus one bonus from 16-30) in the system have been performing. See who's hot and cold!

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 17, 2017 -> 08:23 PM) Well, Lopez goes to the top of the heap for now...unless they call up Danish first. You've got to be kidding with this. You think one start changed this? Come on.

More interviews! Here are the pitchers, pitching coach and manager from the Intimidators who we talked with recently. Some good, detailed stuff, especially from Zaleski. Hitters and the hitting coach coming soon.

Something I noticed about Sherriff Clarke before that bothered me, and I saw someone on Twitter point it out yesterday too... that dress uniform he wears in press conferences is cartoonish and offensive. Most of those, if you look closely, are nothing more than little American flags, replica badges and flair. Almost none of it is anything earned, and even the one color bar I'd be skeptical of. Plus when he wears all of it, not only is he insulting police (and military) who earned theirs, he looks like some 3rd world country strongman.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 17, 2017 -> 04:47 PM) NSS, are you taking advantage of a time of use rate overnight or a special electric vehicle rate? No, but I did some math on that. With the normal plug, the car charges in 7-8 hours, which is generally going to be overnight hours anyway. A level 2 charger does it in 2-3 hours instead, and can be programmed that way of course. But even now, we are getting some of the cheaper rate anyway. A Level 2 charger costs like $1500 installed, maybe more if the wiring is a problem, and I don't think I'd ever make up that cost, unless my math is wrong. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 17, 2017 -> 04:50 PM) That's awesome, I'm really hoping there is a bigger selection of electric plug-ins in 5 years or so. The PHEV concept is becoming much more wide-spread now. Just from the research we did on cars, I know of at least these: Chevy Volt Ford Fusion Energi Ford C-Max Energi Kia Optima PHEV Hyundai Sonata PHEV (not sold in Illinois though, so it's order only right now for us) Hyundai Ioniq Toyota Prius Prime Audi A3 E-Tron BMW 330e Chrysler Pacifica PHEV Mini Cooper E-C Countryman *Also a handful of luxury or sports cars that I didn't bother shopping I may be missing others. They get varying electric-only distances, ranging from 15 to 55 miles (Volt being best for that). But it's surprising how many of these cars are out there now.

We've had our new plug-in hybrid car for a month. Used by both drivers for almost everything. 1250 miles and have yet to put gas in it. Down to about half of a tank thanks to a couple longer city-suburb trips. Plus since we use this car for nearly everything, the other car is barely used. Our monthly actual gasoline cost has gone down to virtually zero from about two hundred dollars. Based on our current electric costs, the equivalent cost we are paying is about 25 dollars a month to charge the car. If maybe we have to gas it up once every other month, at about 30 bucks a pop, that's a total cost of around $40/month for gas. So we are saving $160 a month. We didn't even bother buying a fancy charger. Car came with a regular plug, charges it fully in about 7 hours. That's overnight for us anyway. This is fantastic. Highly recommend it, if you do a lot of driving.

Thanks for all the info on Glacier. Yeah I figure you need to book stuff there a year in advance on the nose to have a chance.
-
Some of these are players I've been asked about, and unlike the guys in AAA, the ones at this level are usually much less well-known. So here's the chance to get to know them. Here are reports on five key hitting prospects in Low-A, with video of each and some quotes from players and coaches. This is exclusive content, and hopefully it is informative for you! Is there a particular one of these players you are high on? Or more than one?

My wife and I have talked for years about doing a trip to Glacier National Park (which I haven't been to yet), and as a grand retirement party (in like 15-20 years) to rent one of those private train cars and take the train from Chicago to the park. Given the rate at which the glaciers are disappearing from Glacier, we are now dropping the train thing (which is expensive as hell) and just road tripping to Glacier next summer to get there much sooner. Legitimately concerned most or all will be gone by the time 20 years rolls around.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 15, 2017 -> 09:07 PM) No one on that team is hitting for power Most of the hitters on that team are not power hitters even if they reach ceiling. Adolfo and Rodriguez both have above average or plus raw, Zavala is average, and that's it for power on that club. But also worth noting, that home park tends to suppress home runs too. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ May 15, 2017 -> 10:34 PM) Guerrero is starting to get pretty intriguing. He's been interesting for a few years. His rough year last year was pretty predictable as he moved up to AA and his innings had increased so dramatically for the couple years prior.

Get caught up on a week's worth of news bits from around the farm right here!

We (FutureSox) did a bunch of interviews while in North Carolina. Here are the highlights of the interviews from Charlotte. There are a few surprising nuggets, but mostly it's just getting to know these guys in a way you wouldn't otherwise. Enjoy! We will have similar for Kannapolis and Winston-Salem, and of course still have some video and analysis content coming as well.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ May 14, 2017 -> 07:54 PM) Is there any video of him cutting up hitters this year QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ May 14, 2017 -> 11:14 PM) No doubt. Those stats are out of a video game. As always, if you're looking for video of White Sox prospects, check out the FutureSox YT Channel. We've got at least a couple of Morrison up there now. You can search within the channel by last name.

Also, we really don't know if Trump's net worth is billions or not. We have no idea. He could be leveraged to the hilt.
