Why is The Cell pointed South-East?
NorthSideSox72 replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in Pale Hose Talk
So if you read the details, you will find that the real reason this happened was basically a big f***-up. Here is how it worked... --Sox threaten to move to Florida --After much tribulation, they say if they get state money, they may move to Addison --State legislature works out a last minute deal to give money to the ISA to build the park --Part of the negotiation was making sure the park stayed in the current location, more or less - to assure this, the bill said it had to be at 35th and Shields --In order to avoid going back to the IL House and risk not only delays but the possibility of not even getting the money, the Sox (Jerry) decide they have to follow the letter of the law, and make sure its address is actually at 35th and Shields All this could have been avoided if the bill had simply said something like "stadium must stand within 3300-3800 and Dan Ryan-RR tracks". -
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 12:08 PM) Here’s a little snapshot from David Pinto about just how big an effect a healthy Manny could have on this lineup. “Reports say Manny is flying to Cleveland to play for the White Sox tonight against his original team. So how much should the White Sox expect to improve from Manny’s presence? Here’s how the Lineup Analysis Tool rates the White Sox composite lineup. Chicago is under performing a bit. They should be scoring 4.86 runs per game and they are scoring 4.74 runs per game. I’m not surprised to see they have a poor stolen base percentage and grounded into a lot of double plays. To put Manny in the lineup, I inserted him third and moved the third place hitter stats to the sixth hole. That lineup generates 5.10 runs per game. I’ll knock off 1/10 of a run for poor base stealing and double plays, so Manny should add .25 runs per game. If they continue to allow 4.20 runs per game, they should play .586 ball the rest of the way for a 19-13 record. That’s good, but they likely would have gone 18-14 if they continued to score and allow runs at the same rate. Still, in a close race, one game can make a big difference. I like contenders trying to find wins any way possible.” http://baseballmusings.com/ Those stats are interesting, but as I said, I don't think they account for the push-over effect. That .25 runs a game means very different things to different teams, and those stats simply can't account for it. I suppose you could look at individual run differential events (i.e. lost X games by one, X games by two, etc.) and try to extrapolate from there. But even then, you'd be missing some subtle side effects that would come from hit at bats, and his very presence in the lineup.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 12:05 PM) I wonder if all of the Manny haters would rather have Kotsay taking those at bats. I think it has been proven that Kotsay probably won't get the job done. Well, I am actually somewhat of a Manny hater myself, and I hope he's not here next year. That said, I think he's definitely got the chance to be a big boost for the team this year, and I am willing to squelch my dislike of his antics for 5 weeks.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 12:03 PM) If the Manny deal is completed in time for today's game, I would like to see the following lineup. LF Pierre SS A. Ramirez DH M. Ramirez 1B Konerko RF Quentin CF Rios 2B Beckham C Pierzynski 3B Vizquel I know it'll never happen, but I think it's time Gordon was moved up to more of an RBI position in the lineup. AJ has been on fire lately, I'd keep him higher up.

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 11:54 AM) I hate Manny. He's an idiot who disrespects the game in every way. I don't think the Sox will win the division with or without him, so I'm a little disappointed he's on the team I root for. That said, it's only 5 weeks, so I will root for him and hopefully a miracle will happen and the Sox will go 23-9 the rest of the way and that will be enough. The Sox have lost 8 of their last 9 one run games. They have come back when down late. They are going to get a couple key guys (Thornton, Putz) back from the DL relatively soon. And there are 5 weeks left to play. This Sox team screams "one more player will help more than it appears". As long as he's healthy, I think he makes a significant impact. Any stat that tries to simply value his run production as projected to wins isn't really useful here.

QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 03:28 PM) Ozzie is the antithesis of a love him or hate him guy. Go on any other boards and you will find people who hate the living s*** out of him, or thinks he's great for baseball cause of his antics. Some fans bases hate him a bit more (Detroit, Cleveland, LA for example) than others. I don't think that word means what you think it means.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 03:25 PM) I don't think Kotsay is going to be gone, just because it keeps them having a backup 1b. If the Dodgers do wait until Tuesday...the Sox will only have to clear a roster spot for 1 day before the rosters expand. That is a pointless reason to keep Kotsay around. Viciedo will be up in September, and you are going to worry about having a backup 1B for 1 friggin' game?

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 03:24 PM) BNightengale #mlb #dodgers GM Ned Colletti on moving trading Manny Ramirez: "Not inclined to move anyone so long as we have a chance.'' 3 minutes ago damn you Ned Ned playing the game here. He wouldn't have put Manny on waivers if he didn't intend to try to deal him somehow.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 03:22 PM) Are you serious? They call Ozzie a classless jerk? I have seen NO EVIDENCE of that besides Moronotti. Fans in Kansas City I talk to love Ozzie. What has he done to be deemed a classless jerk? Are you fricking serious? Ozzie says f*** a lot ... so do a lot of managers. I'm just sayin'... maybe somebody needs a nap. No need to vent steam from your ears because someone dared to call Ozzie a classless jerk. You're going to blow a gasket.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 03:16 PM) The other side benefit to all of this is that Jones, Kotsay, and Teahen are now pushed into the roles they are much better suited for, which is of course that of being bench players. And on the bench, be it back-up outfielders (Jones and Teahen) or back-up infielders (Kotsay and Teahen), and playing sporadically, they all of a sudden don't look so bad. No great shakes, of course, but not bad for a bench. Hopefulyl it means Kotsay is just gone entirely, with Teahen rotating through RF, DH and maybe the corners to get his LH bat in the lineup regularly. Jones as the true backup OF, Lillibridge the equivalent IF. That's the ideal. We'll see if that is what they do.

QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 03:14 PM) Would we have to trade actual players of value for this goof? No one on the 40-man, unless they have already cleared waivers. And any player we have that cleared waivers (i.e. Linebrink), LAD wouldn't want anyway.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 03:10 PM) Come on haters. You're telling me that when Manny launches a 420 foot bomb to dead center, while giving it his patented stare, you won't be going bananas? Slightly less so than for another player. Most fans have some players on their teams they like more than others - Manny will just happen to be my least favorite White Sox, and I'll hope that he helps us to the post-season this year, then leaves and never comes back after the season is over.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 03:02 PM) I'd almost rather have Rios bat 2nd. He's got speed and hits a lot of singles. I think that's a good move. Sometimes that works for hitters to get out of slumps, plus it forces him to go oppo (which he did a few times lately, and he's looked better, or did last night). But Beckham is also a good choice for 2nd slot now. This won't happen, but I'd go with... Pierre 7 Beckham 4 Ramirez 0 Konerko 3 Rios 8 Ramirez 6 Quentin/Teahen 9 Pierzynski 2 Vizquel 5 Might flip AJ and Alexei at 6/8. If Teahen DH's and Quentin is in the field, put Rios back to 3rd slot, Quentin 5th. Love it.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:59 PM) Where does Manny land in the line-up? Third? Fourth? Should be third, might be 5th.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:57 PM) So young people like cheaters? What's that all about? Young people have no morals or something? I don't get the criticism. Tex is a friend, I was giving him a hard time and making a joke. Hell, I think he's only a year or two older than I am anyway.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:52 PM) Oh. I didn't know that. I'll just assume it's a joke, then. I mean I'll feel dirty while cheering for Manny I guess, if we win it all, but it's still wrong to acquire this guy IMO. Maybe this will be good for me and help me be less a Sox/sports fanatic. My team hasn't done something this stupid in a long time. You have got to be kidding... 95% of your posts are saying the team has done something stupid.
-
QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:52 PM) Surprised how many people are fine with Manny regardless if he'd help us cause of his cheating. Many of the same people hated Barry bonds' guts when guys like myself, wite, tru, etc.. wanted him badly here when he was available and were giving us crap. That reminds me, I wonder what guys like Tex (and others) think about this. You mean old people?

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:50 PM) There is a lot of booing and negativity on facebook in regard to the news of Sox claim Manny. You would think average facebook fan wouldn't care about Steroids, any chance he gets booed if he plays for W Sox ? I am 100% sure there will be some booing, but also a lot of cheering. Then it will vary based on his production.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:47 PM) I hope some people think long and hard before making such posts iike this. People, don't out yourselves as people who condone cheating and all that. Don't make me lose faith in humanity more than I have. My god. Think before you post. CHEATING IS WRONG!!! Don't bother. This has been longshot's schtick for as long as I can remember. His logic trail leads to the impossible (anarchy) so its empty, and he's probably doing it just to get your goat. Its working.
-
I still despise Manny for being the quitter and cheater he is, but boy will his bat look good in the Sox lineup for the next month or so. I'm a little torn, but as long as its just this month, I'm happy. Please do not bring him back for 2011, especially with his age and injury history of late (in addition to the aforementioned scuzziness).

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:42 PM) Boof Bonser Then we have to put up with Boof being Boof.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:24 PM) Radio station in LA saying deal is done? Manny to Sox, Sox pick up most of the contract, LA gets PTBNL. JUST A RUMOR. #whitesox - some guy on twitter. LOL, either I called this one, or that radio station is reading my posts.
-
I'll re-state what I posted earlier before the thread got moved and the index got screwed up... My prediction: Sox send a so-so prospect, not a team top 10, to LAD, and take on most but not all of Manny's remaining salary.
-
I'll put my prediction out there... the Sox ship a so-so prospect, no one in the team's Top 10 probably, and cover most but not all of Manny's remaining salary.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 01:24 PM) you have to think it's a realistic possibility in this case if you're a team claiming him... There's a real chance LAD are completely fed up with him and after a little trade talk they could easily just say "screw it he's yours 4m and all." Its definitely a gamble, but really any move on the waiver wire is. Also, if you make a claim, and the other team calls your bluff, and its not irrevocable waivers... can you retract the claim? And then what happens?
