QUOTE (spiderman @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 11:01 AM) Exactly, which means that somebody from the 25 man roster has to be put on the DL, sent back to the minors or waived? Can Kotsay be put on the DL for 1 day and brought back on September 1st when rosters expand? You can't DL someone for 1 day, he'd have to be on for 15. The best suggestion I have seen is to option someone down to Bristol, whose season ends in a few days, then bring them back (you can get around the 10 day option rule if they are assigned to a minor league team and that team's season ends). Probably would have to be a reliever, someone new, like Santos or Sale.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 10:50 AM) I need a little tech support. I went to BleacherReport.com and Digg.com and had some crazy font issues. I used both Chrome and FireFox (on a windows computer) and had the same problem. however, in IE8 it's completely fine. Below is an image of what the page looked like. Any ideas of what is wrong? You don't speak Farsi?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 10:38 AM) He has to be on the roster as of today to be playoff eligible. On the 40, or the 25? Because he is already on the 40.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 10:44 AM) I still can't believe you wouldn't give me a quarter. Man, you haven't aged well since I last saw you.

QUOTE (SnB @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 10:23 AM) Really? My favorite seats in the park are Upper Deck behind the plate. Back in the original UD, the seats went up a bunch of rows further, and got really steep (the idea was to make better views, which it did). And there wasn't an overhang/roof either. the UD is much, much better now than it was. Views were good all along though. -
I was outside my building downtown today, and this guy walks up and asks for a quarter. I gave the usual "sorry", he walked away. Then just after he walks away, he pulls a blackberry out of his pocket and makes a phone call.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 05:48 PM) James Cameron goes all b****y diva on Piranha 3D LOL @ Cameron getting b****y about a movie using 3D as a visual to get attention, when he just put out Avatar.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 10:18 PM) Manny = unbeaten streak for the rest of the year and a 12 - 0 world series run Are we playing a Game 163?

QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 08:33 AM) 9 AM ET + 4 hour flight = 1 PM. What's this late afternoon, business? C'mon, Manny. Flap your wings faster! He prefers to glide gently on his dreadlocks.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 08:32 AM) What kind of f***ing doctor does that? Especially when the patient's livelihood depends on the injury? 1. Not a Doctor - X-Ray tech 2. Just to be clear, I don't think he was joking, I think he made a mistake. Right? Or did I misunderstand what happened here? If it was a mistake, that sucks for Beckham, and I'd be pissed. If it was some sort of joke though, that is even worse.

Brian Anderson's future...? Thought this was funny.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 08:23 AM) And yet, I'd still say it's equally true that the Sox never put him in a legitimate position to succeed. Some guys can thrive being used how Anderson was used, some won't. If the team continues to use a guy in a way that it's obvious he can't succeed, and at the same time, the guy doesn't adapt to how he's being used...who gets the blame? There's some for both sides. Ugh, I should never have said anything. BA had a full and complete chance to succeed, and he failed, both in performance (offensively) and in approach. I have zero sympathy for him, and zero disappointment in the Sox for it. -
This bullpen was one of the best in baseball until about 2-3 weeks ago. Then the injuries and implosions came in full force. That said, Thornton is back this weekend, and probably Putz shortly after. And bullpens go through pains like this. I am highly confident that this bullpen will get back on track very soon, but for one man - Bobby. I am just not sure about him. Thing is, his velocity is still there, but it looks to me like he is STILL trying to be a precision pitcher, instead of just throwing the damn ball. His 95-98 FB has life to it, and his curveball is very solid. If he just threw those two pitches, into the catcher's spot, I really think he'd be his old self.

LOL, apparently according to the author of this AP article, "most angry" = "most attuned". Perfect example of a deceiving headline. And to be fair, the author themselves may not have written the headline.

QUOTE (whitesox901 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 11:42 PM) I feel bad for Anderson. If he had a real chance to develop in the majors (not being pushed aside for the greats of Mackowiak, Erstad, Wise, Owens, etc) he may of been able to hit decent enough, even if its just the 9 hole, a young, cheap player that can hit decent enough and play solid defense...would of been a solid piece to the puzzle. He had so much potential, deserved better. He had more "real chances" with the Sox than most prospects get on arrival when they do as badly as he did. -
QUOTE (The Gooch @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 10:13 PM) I'm just going to go ahead and say that I almost hate that cell phones were ever invented. They are ruining our society. They cause more car accidents than drunk driving. You can't even hold a conversation with someone anymore without them doing something on their phone. Hell you can't even stand in line at the grocery store or sit on the train without hearing someone's life story while they talk on the phone. Sorry for ruining your thread with my rant. (In Billy Madison voice) Now go on with the weird things! Never seen that before. Wouldn't doubt it, but, I think it would be very hard to measure.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 08:22 PM) 22 years old with mediocre K numbers. Good for him, but I'm not going to call him a prospect yet. If he shows up with numbers like that in A ball next year, he might be worth keeping an eye on. If he's a Dartmouth grad, he's probably a sharp kid, which means he's probably got a good makeup, which makes him slightly more likely to make he most of his talent. Always fun to look for guys that weren't talked about, but who might surprise (there are always a few).

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 12:00 AM) The Dugout is meant to be funny. Intelligent Ozzie with perfect English wouldn't be funny. Maybe that's the funny part - Ozzie speaking correct English.

LOL, I understand it looked bad, but its funny to go back and read this thread with everyone writing off his season. Man, that sucks about the X-Ray tech. Not cool.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 07:42 PM) Manny being Manny. Get used to it. LOL, every indication is this is Ozzie, not Manny's, decision.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 01:54 PM) There's always fighter jets! OK sure, maybe there's an SR-71 still sitting around in Cali somewhere. Put Manny in a space suit, stick him in there, and get him to Cleveland in 45 minutes. Talk about a great moment in the press - Manny climbing out of a Blackbird on the tarmac in Cleveland, pulling off his flight suit to reveal a White Sox uniform, before getting into a limo for the park.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 01:51 PM) For the love of god we're running out of games. Fly his ass out on a private jet. If he's in LA, figure the earliest he could even be on the plane is an hour from now, 3pm CT. That's 1pm LA time, 4pm Cleveland time. Its a 4+ hour flight, that makes it 8pm CLE before he even lands. 9pm earliest arrival at the stadium. Manny would have to have gotten on a plane (any kind of plane) by 10:30am LA time (12:30pm here) to have even had a shot at it.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 01:35 PM) This is one of those things that makes me feel old. I was a teen when all of this was going on, but a lot of people on here weren't even born yet. Ugh. I remember sending a bunch of white socks in the mail to the Trib, when one of the sports writers (can't remember who know - Holtzman maybe?) was trying to organize a giant crate of white socks to send to Tampa instead of the team. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 01:34 PM) I agree the renovations are fantastic. It just sucks that you have to walk for about 45 minutes down the ramps from the upper deck after the game. It annoys the s*** out of me every time. I noticed this season that they started running the escalators going down after games - they didn't do that in previous seasons. That helps a bit. -

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 01:16 PM) Maybe true but the projects were on the other side of the expressway. If you're going to the L then you're still going in the direction of the projects. You save a couple hundred feet I guess. He may be referring to the senior home that is currently just outside of right field of the stadium. Some people think of them as "projects". Or, if you go about 4 more blocks south along Wentworth, you do in fact hit some row-homes that are indeed "projects".
