QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 01:20 PM) There's no way that ManRam on your roster pays $4 million in additional ticket sales in only 1 month if you're out of the race. You're assuming they would get the claim as-is.
-
QUOTE (IamtheHBOMB @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 01:19 PM) For 4 million? No way. You'd think, but I think BigSqwert's theory is equally unlikely. Its also possible, BTW, that the report of multiple teams is wrong.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 01:18 PM) Maybe it's an NL team willing to take away a big bat from a too close for comfort wild card opponent and not even bothering to play him too much. Except all NL teams would be under the same damocles I listed. They'd have to be ultra-paranoid and rolling in cash to make that move purely to protect themselves from the highly unlikely.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 01:16 PM) He hasn't officially ruled out the Sox yet. Giants? Padres? not sure. Yeah, I found that interesting too - the Sox were the #1 team being talked about, and he didn't specifically say no Sox. Which could mean he has no particularly good Sox sources, which would mean there is no telling.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 01:14 PM) I agree Oz is to blame as well, however KW is the GM and it's his job to put a team tht has the nest chance to succeed.I understand agreeing with oz orginally but after half of season seeing Kots blow, it his duty to rectify it. It doesn't matter at this point though. Nothing we can do about it. Which NL team do we think it is? I'm going with either the Phillies, Cardnials, or Reds. Here is why I still have my doubts about it being an NL team - which of those teams would really want Manny to play in the outfield? He's basically a DH at this point. And would they spend that kind of money on a pinch hitter for a month? I really wonder if some AL team we didn't expect, is jumping in, just to have Manny on the roster for a month of home games. DET? OAK?

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 01:11 PM) And for not helping the team at the deadlines (if there was bats available like you said earlier) KW tried to get Berkman, but Lance decided he preferred NYY. Tried for Dunn, but the requests were laughably absurd for the return (Beckham). The others, like LaRoche, I have no idea what the other teams were asking for.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 01:08 PM) I think you guys misunderstood me I was being critical of KW for making his plans so public about Manny. I understand he has limited control over the media but we know and seen he works best when it's quiet. The attendance part was me simplying pointing out the need for a move like Manny of Hoffman (push for 600 saves) because attendance has blown this season. Were 3.5 outand there was barely anyone at yest. Game and it's the end of August. I was critical of KWs methods this whole season; startting with the Thome decision, blowing gettig a hitter at the deadline, the openess of the drama between him and the guillen family, and now Manny. It's not been like him and the team has suffered because of it. Ozzie deserves about 80% of the blame for the DH debacle, because it was his call. KW does get some though, for letting Ozzie even have that decision.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 01:07 PM) And why is Laroche not even in the picture? Does anyone think Kenny even asked AZ what they'd be willing to trade him for? Possible they inquired about him, and got an Unreasonable reply back. I have no idea.
-
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 01:07 PM) SI_JonHeyman in continuing guessing game, i hear #rangers did not win claim. neither did the couple teams behind them in picking order. If he's right (who knows?), then its likely the Sox or an NL team.
-
QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 01:05 PM) kenny is looking elsewhere and wouldn't be suprised if just ends up being bullpen help Which is not a bad idea - getting a bullpen arm I mean.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 01:04 PM) Kenny is either sure on landing Manny or is targeting someone else that we have no idea about. He had to know there is a chance an NL team might claim Manny eliminating us from getting him. If he's willing to let this team be without any offesive addition then I put the season on his hands, and want him gone if we don't make the playoffs. One thing I'd bet the farm on, is that Kenny had multiple layers in whatever his plan was. If he wanted Manny, he had some other idea in mind as a backup. Of course, that all said, if there were no other upgrade bats even available to him, then there is nothing he can do. If the best he can get is someone nearly as bad as Kotsay, then he has to stand pat, even though i am sure that is not his Plan A. The mistake with this offense wasn't what happens now - it was going into the season to begin with, with a DH like Kotsay. KW wanted another bat, put the decision on Ozzie (which was KW's mistake), and then Ozzie was Ozzie and made a really bad call. That's where things fell apart, before Opening Day even happened.
-
QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 01:02 PM) ya cause kenny didnt trade for berkman only be rejected... we be in same boat if he did accept Definitely dodged a bullet there. And I'll admit I was on the berkman bandwagon too, I wanted him on the Sox.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:56 PM) I knew these was doomed with all the hype.the sox are deaperate for attendance and put our name out there to get ppl excited if we got him, great, if not KW saves face and says he tried. Same old BS with this administration. I'm disappointed this didn't happen. Ugh. Seriously people, do you really think KW is going to concoct some sort of complex leak to put the Sox on Manny, when doing so and failing makes him and the team look WORSE, not better? I just have to laugh at conspiracy theories where the conspirators have no motivation to do what is suspected of them. If the Sox are desperate for attendence, you know what they do? ACTUALLY TRY TO GET HIM. Or alternately, get someone else. Or just ignore it. The absolute last thing that makes any sense to do is orchestrate the appearance they tried, when they didn't.
-
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:53 PM) Fair enough, however pretty sure no one knew we had any interest in Rios last year, until the actual claim was placed. The media had us 'landing' Manny every since non-waiver deadline, and we know by now that the more speculation there is about White Sox adding someone the deal is less likely, or so I thought. Rios was something no one even considered, so it wasn't discussed. Manny was such an obvious fit for the Sox, naturally, that is where the attention was focused. So these media guys ask their "sources" for info, and who knows how reliable they are.
-
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:48 PM) I thought it was all 'controlled leaks' and Kenny has been a master at doing that. Don't tell me if Kenny wanted to keep it a secret he wouldn't have? Under the radar, I thought that's how he rolls? Again, for all of you who seem to be poised to get on Kenny for supposedly making this public... show me where he or the Sox did that. They didn't. This was all media speculation, unnamed sources, and leaks. And besides, Kenny would have ZERO reason to send a controlled leak out on this anyway. That just doesn't make any sense.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:46 PM) Yeah that was odd. "But we tried!" It wasn't odd, because it didn't happen. Show me where they did that.
-
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:45 PM) Yup, one thing I wonder, why were Kenny and co making this so public, like they had to realize someone will claim him to block us. Kenny and Co didn't make anything public, the media did all that. Where did you see KW make anything public? On the contrary, he said otherwise.
-
QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:44 PM) espn 1000 update: white sox no longer favorite to land manny no longer favorite? Meaningless. That's just them seeing what we see - multiple teams, which makes NL more likely. No news there.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:19 PM) They're not going to win every game...but they have to play like they have zero margin for error. If they take 2/3 from teams, fine...but then they're basically counting on the Twins not taking 2/3 or better over the same stretch. It's not an enviable place to be. Take it series-by-series. This past series, the Sox picked up 1.5, which is what we all hoped (pretty much) since we played the O's while MIN was in Texas. This series, I'd be happy if the Sox just kept pace with the Twins somehow. Don't really care how.

8/27 Gamethread - Good Guys v. Evil Empire

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 11:50 AM) It's nice of the Yankees and their bats to visit while Putz/Thornton are on the DL and the Mariners are entertaining the Twins. Twins have some tough pitching matchups to face in Seattle, and they looked pretty bad in Texas. I wouldn't pencil in a sweep by the Twinkies just yet. -
Under a public records request granted by the courts, the details of a speaking contract for Sarah Palin were revealed. She made 75k, plus a lot of little niceties, including a contract-demanded supply of "bendable straws". But that sort of stuff is probably common for big name speakers (though I had a good laugh about the straws). Here is the part that jumped out at me, and its exactly what has bothered me about politicians and politicos in recent years: pre-selected audience questions I would love it for one of these dopes to have the balls to allow for real, unscripted questions in their speaking engagements. The Official Stephen Strasburg needs Tommy John Thread
NorthSideSox72 replied to Jordan4life_2007's topic in The Diamond Club
This really sucks for the kid. If this had to happen at all, I'd rather it happened to Harper, who is by all accounts a raging asshole who needs to be taken down a few rungs. Strasburg seemed like a guy who appreciated where he was. I hope he comes back solid.
