  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 12:20 PM) Typically, if Kw's doing that, I don't think the guy gets a promotion up to AAA, I feel like we start wondering why he's sitting at one level. Case in point: Gio, Carter, both could have been promoted but we held back and kept their numbers up at the level they were beating. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 12:24 PM) Morel's a better asset to the Sox than he is as a trade chip. Agreed on these. Morel has never been high on the prospect lists, but I've felt all along he's better than that. Not to say that Kenny won't trade him if someone wants him bad enough, but I really think that if Teahen continues to struggle this season, and Morel looks good in Charlotte, he's this team's starting 3B in 2011.
  2. QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 10:28 AM) Every time someone on here says something even slightly less than supportive of Chase, something great happens for him!! I LOVE IT!! ...like i said, "anything could happen" aka there is a possibility that he may not be starting, it doesn't matter though, the coaches there already know and like him ..he will see plenty of playing time!! Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with the guy, and if he gets the opportunity then I hope he does well. I'm just letting you know, the way the Rookie league teams work, they are generally filled this way... Bristol has the less polished draftees and NDFA's (high schoolers or minimal college, or guys like Dubler who they know need more work), and GF gets the college-seasoned draftees or guys who are "graduating" from Bristol the previous year and are still too raw (or blocked) for A Ball. So if the Sox only draft one catcher (or none) - and assuming Gonzalez isn't demoted to GF to get more work in (since he has struggled in A Ball and is still young) - then Blackwood would indeed seem to be the best choice.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 09:13 AM) Who was a better option? I personally would have preferred Damon, or with going more the power route like Vlad, than another Slappy McSlapperson. But that's just my opinion, and I realize that I cannot know if that was even possible. Point is, neither are great options.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 09:18 AM) The thing that drives me crazy about the CTA always having to fight for more funding is the argument you hear about "why should I have to pay for their service" as if we are riding for free, and as if I'm not paying for their roads and highways. Drives me batty. I agree with that. People scream about funding of mass transit, where the users have to pay a portion of the costs, yet say nothing of the hundreds of billions spent every year on roads that they drive on without paying for it directly.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 08:55 AM) To retort; anyone who believes that these problems can be solved without spending a lot more money is doing exactly the same thing. Eh? How is that a retort? You just re-stated half my argument and left off the other half. Its like you assumed I was taking the "ITS ALL WASTE" argument without actuall reading my post, where you would have seen I said clearly it was all the above.
  6. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 29, 2010 -> 01:57 AM) I was being sarcastic. And yes, I think everyone has established that they are pretty much the same player, and everyone would pefer a different option oppossed to those two. However, this thread and argument is about who is better for this team, Pods or Pierre, and I'll stick with Pods over Pierre. Pods and Pierre are the same in these senses: hitting, gross base stealing numbers, and weak arm. Difference is, Pierre is better in the other areas - defense, base running net value, age curve location, and effort. Therefore in my eyes, Pierre is the better player. I guess I'll take Whoopi. Though I agree that neither one was the best option.
  7. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 08:19 AM) Higher taxes won't solve this problem, either. They'd have to take that added tax money and actually spend it on infrastructure and not their friends, families, and contributers, which won't be happening anytime soon, no matter what the tax rate is. Oh, it also won't matter who's in office, Democrat or Republican, you aren't seeing that money used as it should be...because we don't do things that way. Besides, roads and bridges are all being repaired by the Obama bailouts...I saw it when driving down south on my last camping trip...the only problem is I see these same roads getting repaired every year, whether it's with bailout funds or not. The sooner all of you stop blaming one party or the other, the sooner you'll realize that neither of those parties are on your side, whether you vote for them or not. They're on their own side, a side you aren't a part of, and never will be. Just as with the CTA, this problem is not JUST the loss of some marginal money to corruption, nor is it JUST the loss of some marginal money to inefficiencies, nor is it JUST the fact that there is more work to be done than money to pay for it. Its all the above. Anyone who thinks that throwing more money at it will solve all the problems, or who thinks that the marginal amount of waste or corruption is making it impossible, is just being stubborn to defend one particular agenda.
  8. By the way, I have 4 tickets in the front row of the UD available for this game for cheap. PM if interested.
  9. QUOTE (Disco72 @ May 31, 2010 -> 09:14 PM) I know the guy has been a stud, but he hasn't faced a single major league team yet.... and you're already putting an "L" on the schedule? Seriously. The idea that a guy who has never pitched in the majors is a lock to win his third game is pretty ridiculous.
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ May 31, 2010 -> 10:30 PM) Birmingham http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...tenaax_biraax_1 Saw in the Trib some tidbits about this game... one, Cubs prospect Vitters was removed from the game for injury... two, apparently the Barons pulled off a triple play at some point in the game.
  11. QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ May 31, 2010 -> 07:52 PM) If he goes to GF more than likely he will be starting, but nothing is definite in baseball...anything could happen! Whether or not Blackwood starts at GF is probably dictated by the draft. If the Sox draft 2 or more catchers in the mid-upper rounds, then Blackwood will probably be out of luck.
  12. JPN stating over in the FS forum, that the Charlotte announcers mentioned Lillibridge was "removed" from the Charlotte roster, but that its "not a bad thing". Can't be sure what that means, but its possible Teahen is hitting the DL and Lillibridge is heading up.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 28, 2010 -> 02:45 PM) I don't know if I've ever lived anywhere that thunderstorms regularly roll in from the East like they do here. Have you lived anywhere that you were on the west slopes of a large mountain range?
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 28, 2010 -> 02:37 PM) I think the death spiral may be effect after 0-4 in Tampa. Tonight's matchup screams blowout. Except the middle of the Sox order has destroyed Price in their careers. So not really.
  15. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 28, 2010 -> 02:32 PM) Career vs Price: Pierre 0/3 Ramirez 1/5 Rios 4/6 w/ 3B, HR, BB Konerko 4/6 w/ 2B, HR, K Jones 3/8 w/ 2HR, BB Quentin 1/4 w/ 2BB, 2K Teahen 0/5 w/ 2K Castro 0 PA Beckham 0/5 w/ BB, K Our 3-6 hitters are a combined .500/.571/.889/1.460 with 4 HR in 24 AB vs Price Great opportunity here for the Sox. They can take a game here, and still have Danks and Peavy (who can still be devastating if he's got it figured out) going on Sat-Sun.
  16. QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 28, 2010 -> 01:32 PM) Confirmed. If he can look half-decent, he may replace Williams in-season.
  17. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 28, 2010 -> 10:49 AM) I am being hyperbolic in thinking out loud here, but I sometimes wonder if you even like our country. It's hard to find examples of you saying positive things about it, even when referring to the left. In fairness, he isn't talking about "our country", he is talking mostly about "our government".
  18. QUOTE (daggins @ May 28, 2010 -> 12:37 AM) I think it is just an instructional league this fall and not the AFL that is the goal. Yeah, they now have two leagues in the fall in AZ, plus the non-competition instructional league. They might mean the second (younger) AFL league, or they may mean just the unofficial league. Hard to say, but I'd bet they do NOT mean the top line AFL.
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 28, 2010 -> 08:43 AM) Alex Gordon once again obliterating minor league pitching: .375/.519/.688/1.207 in 104 PAs. God I wish the Royals would make up their minds on what they're going to do with him. I'd give up anything outside of Hudson/Flowers. Ka'ahuie not far behind at .327/.496/.614/1.110. Its amazing to me that those two guys are in AAA.
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 28, 2010 -> 08:24 AM) LOL. Wow, tell us how you really feel, maggs. Houston? Yes. Not sure about Toronto. But I wouldn't lump the Cardinals and D-Backs in there with us. If their systems are a little thin right now, it's because they've either graduated or been able to spin off homegrown talent for proven talent. Neither one of those teams have a problem producing talent from within. I still think there is a "class" of players that was mostly in Kanny last year, and is mostly in W-S this year, that has some guys in it worth watching. Too early to tell how many of them are going to be impact guys though. That group is even better when you consider that Mitchell would be in there too if he hadn't been injured.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 28, 2010 -> 08:15 AM) Can I bump this thread in September after I see how this year's selling and replacing has gone? Sure.
  22. What do you WANT to happen, and what WILL happen?
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 28, 2010 -> 12:53 AM) I think Hahn will be the GM very soon with Williams moving up to a president type of role. I think Kenny can't continue to deal with the high strung lifestyle, etc. Ozzie will probably go ballistic shortly. Its just a matter of time. I'd agree - I bet KW slides to Team President, Hahn to full time GM, within a year. And that Ozzie lasts no longer than this season.
  24. QUOTE (Tex @ May 28, 2010 -> 07:23 AM) I am planning a summer trip to Chicago and wanting to toss in a couple 5-7 mile hikes. Any ideas? We'll be visiting Field Museum, Adler, Science and Industry, possibly Grant Park, Millenium Park, etc. This will be my girlfriends first trip to Chicago since the late 70s. The thought of an urban hike is intriguing. Possibly option that would replace hills would be interesting also. If you want an "urban" hike, you could almost pick any 5-7 mile stretch in the city and get some interesting cultural viewing. Just be aware of your neighborhoods first. Something along the lakefront path would seem pretty ideal. If you want something in the city but not really urban, try the forest preserves. There's one nice paved trail, used by bikes and hikers, that starts up north around Elston and I think Caldwell, and runs north all the way to the Botanic Gardens in Glencoe.
  25. W-S offense coming back to earth. Sauer settling down and looking better though. So far, looking at the top 25 prospects in the organization, there are a lot more disappointing years that not. And only a few pleasant surprises or names that have popped up from the blue. Terry Doyle is a guy I didn't pay much attention to before, but he's becoming interesting.
