  1. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 01:04 PM) I was looking at adding that to my breakfast regiment. Looks pretty good. I am also looking some spagetti made from it as well, more expensive. But lets sugars in the mix. If you like pasta, but want to get more out of it nutrionally, I highly suggest Barilla Plus. Unlike a lot of the wheat pastas that taste like crap, this stuff actually tastes as good as any pasta you'd get from a box (not as good as true homemade, but, who eats that at home anyway?). They use chickpeas and lentils, so its got 17g of protein per 100g serving, very little fat, and a 7g fiber in that same serving. Great stuff.
  2. QUOTE (WCSox @ May 5, 2009 -> 12:50 PM) Players tend to lose significant bat speed as they approach 40. Harold Baines had the bat speed of a Little Leaguer by the time he retired. As a 40 year old he put up a .978 OPS for Baltimore, including 24 HR. I'd say he still had some bat speed then.
  3. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 5, 2009 -> 01:01 PM) On a kinda related note, Cook COunty needs the money: Cook County settles recorder's office patronage clout lawsuits When this kind of things happen, I'd think that the county could (and should) sue the convicted offenders for the money. They may only get part of it back, but, maybe worth it. Or heck, it should be automatic law - if you work for a government agency that spends money to defend you against criminal allegations related to your job, and you lose the case, you should have to pay the county for the law bill.
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 5, 2009 -> 12:25 PM) Right. For example, Charlotte may be garbage, but Birmingham is easily one of the best sox minor league teams I have seen in many years. Reloading. And the major league team is competitive. As usual. This decade (2000-2009), the Sox have really only been non-competitive in the division once - 2007. Every other year they field a team capable of vying for the division title, and stay in it until late season, usually.
  5. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 5, 2009 -> 12:25 PM) No, but you all want to talk about how much better the Democrat party is all the time, and in reality, it's no different. That was his point. You smear and smear and smear the Republicans but when the Democrats do it, it's somehow different in a good way to you all. It is clearly different. Is it the opposite? No. But you paint a black and white picture, when it is shades of grey. And right now, there is clearly a difference between the Congressional GOP, and the democratic Presidential administration, when it comes to comprimise.
  6. Check this out: So, the board votes to repeal it (why did they vote for it in the first place?). But Cook County has a 4/5 rule to override vetoes, and Stroger vows to veto. Fun times.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ May 5, 2009 -> 12:11 PM) It's just that rebuilding years suck. Good thing we haven't seen one of those in quite a while. This is the KW mode. There are no true rebuilding years - its a continuous thing (which he is not always successful at). But you just won't see a KW-run Sox team that is ever in a "rebuilding" mode like you see some other teams do.
  8. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ May 5, 2009 -> 11:47 AM) you mean cornhole?? No, he means conhole. Its a prison game. Don't ask how he knows about it.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 5, 2009 -> 11:47 AM) Here's my admittedly partisan lens response...what more can you do to be bipartisan than put a sacred cow that supposedly benefits one of your party's interest groups on the table as something you're willing to negotiate? How do you be more bi-partisan than that? Its always a continuum. I agree that particular case, that was a huge olive branch, and the GOP decided to ignore it. Not very bright really, since basically this means they'll use the parliamentary trick and pass it anyway WITHOUT the comprimise. I was talking about his adminsitration thus far anyway, not just that instance.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 5, 2009 -> 11:23 AM) If true, this is a fascinating anecdote looking at how the 2 parties are working right now. Obama hasn't done great at the bi-partisanship. But I think its pretty obvious the Republicans, to their own detriment, are far more stubborn right now that the administration is. They are so bull-headed that their party is continuing to become a regional player at best. I really hope they can find leadership that is willing to understand that you cannot run that party on such rigid iedological litmus tests, and with no willingness to do anything remotely construed as moderate, and still expect to be successful.
  11. Please win so we can stop with some of the whining.
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 5, 2009 -> 09:44 AM) Legalizing marijuana in just the state of California would bring around 2 billion dollars in tax money to the government. I happen to agree with legalization, but, this statement is pure conjecture. Since its not legal now, how could you possibly know what taxes would be applied to it? Where did you get the $2B number?
  13. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ May 5, 2009 -> 09:48 AM) w sox have already committed 5 errors this month with 2 on sat, 2 on sun, and one last night. Anyone got stats where w sox rank in errors up till now? Some of these errors are from bench players or players out of position, due to injuries. Just keep that in mind.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 5, 2009 -> 09:46 AM) But, but, but. I only think of Thome as the 38 year old hitter he is today! And he's still damn good at 38. his average isn't so good, but it will go up a bit, and I'll take that .900-ish OPS he's likely to post from my DH every time.
  15. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 5, 2009 -> 09:06 AM) Do you all have mirrors in the shower or something? How the heck can you shave without looking in the mirror. I at least need the mirror when I'm trimming around my sideburns, which I keep very thin. Yes. You can get cheap plastic ones that attach to the wall or door of the shower, or get the fancy ones that hook to the water and cycle it behind the mirror (keeps it from fogging).
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 5, 2009 -> 07:01 AM) And Lillibridge is right next to him staring like a deer in headlights with the bat on his shoulder. This sounds like a live-action version of a Skanberg cartoon.
  17. QUOTE (RME JICO @ May 5, 2009 -> 06:10 AM) Would we be seeing any of these players if Getz, Anderson, Thome, Fields, and Dye didn't miss any time? Those 5 with Quentin, Konerko, AJ, and Ramirez make up a pretty decent lineup. Thank you. I love this over the top stuff, its hilarious. OMG WTF WE HAVE NO CHANCE!!!!! Please, we're a couple games out, in a weak division, despite having a number of key players missing time, all of whom are recently back or will come back soon. The 2008 team was under .500 later in the season than this.
  18. Kroeger starting to heat up, has his OPS up to .810 after an awful start, he's been on fire the past 5 games or so. Lucy with his second straight 2-hit game, and threw out another runner. I'd love to see those two on the roster instead of Lillibridge and Miller, since Nix can now play every position that Lilli can except CF. Poreda looking tempting, but I still think they don't jump him up like that. If JC falters, I think it is more likely that Richard and JC just flip positions. Torres is intriguing.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2009 -> 08:58 PM) Pods really is option E in CF A- Owens (flunked his exam in ST) B- Wise C- Anderson D- Lillibridge And Plan C was actually going fairly well, until Plan C tried to hit the ball 800 feet and tweaked something.
  20. QUOTE (Capn12 @ May 4, 2009 -> 08:02 PM) Contreras could be dominant, and it wouldnt matter with the cesspool of has-beens and never-will-be's we are running out in CF and RF. RF is temporary, a couple days of scrubs will happen now and then. CF though...
  21. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 4, 2009 -> 06:41 PM) Electricity from said sources to power electric motors. That. Or power from said sources to compact hydrogen for fuel cells.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2009 -> 02:12 PM) The Sox LOVE the idea of having a starting pitcher get some time in as a long reliever prior to joining the starting rotation (the Mark Buehrle approach). A member of the Charlotte organization revealed on Saturday (even before the Contreras debacle) that they've been told Poreda would never pitch there and won't stay in B'ham all year. I don't remember seeing this "revealed" anywhere. Insider? Or did I miss something?
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2009 -> 02:03 PM) Crap, meant to say if Wednesday isn't postponed (heard there's a good chance of it). If Contreras bombs again, Richard would move into rotation and Poreda would take over for long relief. I highly doubt it. More likely, if JC sucks AND Richard is the starter taking over, we'll see Gobble or maybe Williams to give Ozzie another lefty. Carrasco and Broadway are doing long relief too, no need for a third.
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2009 -> 01:52 PM) Outside chance this is Poreda's swan song in the minors, especially if the Wednesday game for the Sox gets postponed. Huh? Why would that be?
  25. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 4, 2009 -> 01:42 PM) My 401k actually has a positive return year-to-date. Weird to see that, huh? May not last. I think the year will be up and down, though I think later in the year we will see a good solid rise.
