I don't remember Terrero enough, so I couldn't vote for him. Lexi still hadn't adjusted yet either. So it was a contest between Griffey (who knows the position well and still has a cannon), and Owens (who aside from the noodle arm is clearly the best among the remaining). I went with Owens.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ May 1, 2009 -> 02:55 PM) Tell me how you would feel if you own one of the funds? He told you yesterday he is against you. I would offer the bondholders a fairer slice of the pie. Bondholders are investors. Investors take on risk. They expect equities to be honored, but also accept the risk of default. You can't have it both ways. Obama has done nothing I am aware of to cause this - Chrysler caused this. So I ask again... you are the President, you have to do what is best for the country as a whole - citizens in the economy, investors in Chrysler debt, and employees of Chrysler and their related industry... what would you do differently?

QUOTE (lostfan @ May 1, 2009 -> 01:56 PM) He could nominate a centrist and you (conservatives) would still call the nominee a liberal judicial activist. Yup, and the other way around too. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 1, 2009 -> 01:57 PM) What we need is a Roberts...someone who can play the centrist in his confirmation hearings and make all the supposed moderates swoon but who gets on the court and instantly turns in to the farthest-left guy on there. I actually liked the Roberts nomination, and mostly still do now. He's been pretty much what he said he'd be. Alito, on the other hand, was and is a disaster.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 1, 2009 -> 02:33 PM) I wonder just WHO was on board the plane while it was doing it's fancy manuvers. I heard that some group has asked for a passenger list and been denied. The group thought that there could have been some wealthy campaign contributors on board, and wanted to find out. Probably was, but honestly, who cares? Of all the things to worry about, about this stupid move, I could care less who was on there that had no control over the plane.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ May 1, 2009 -> 02:28 PM) So with the left hand the Administration wants to protect investors, and with the right it wants to f*** invetsors in Oppenheimer funds who through their investments own Chrysler debt. Well played Messiah, well played. It was the best option available. Tell me what you would have done instead.

Podsednik/Nix Recalled, Anderson to DL, Owens Demoted

Also, see game thread - Pods hitting 9th, rest of lineup basically business as usual (Getz leading off, Fields 2nd), and Thome is back in it. -

QUOTE (kane0730 @ May 1, 2009 -> 02:41 PM) At least Pods isn't leading off. *sigh of relief* Offensively, that lineup isn't half bad, with Thome back in it. Defensively in the OF, however... -

So, with Nix on the team, I'll just throw this one out there... Getz has played some outfield. Not sure if he has played CF. Has he? -

With Wise hurt, BA hurt, and Owens going back where he belongs, obviously Pods is the best choice available (unless they had put Cook in Charlotte where he belonged). But I'm with everyone else, fearing that they will lead off Pods, and sit Getz too often. And that would be 100% on Ozzie. -
AAP: Ehren Wassermann
NorthSideSox72 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Adopt-a-Prospects - Closed
Erhen's first month report for Charlotte. Similar to 2008, after missing the Opening Day roster, he got shelled a couple times - ERA of 18.00 his first two outings. But since then, he's been as dominant as he was most of 2008 in Charlotte (and almost as good as 2007 in Chicago): 9.2 IP, 0.93 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, 1 BB, 10 K. His overall numbers so far: 8 games, 12.2 IP 0-1 4.97 ERA 1.50 WHIP .309 AvgA 1.30 GO/AO 2 BB (none in last 5 appearances) 14 K 1 HR If he keeps up his recent pace, and if Carrasco or Broadway struggle or get hurt, Wassermann is a likely call-up candidate. Russell and Link are better suited for short innings, and Gobble would replace a lefty. -
Justin came off the DL and pitched only 3 games in April for Charlotte (1 start). He got pretty beat up in his start, and his numbers so far leave something to be desired: 3 games (1 start), 8.1 IP 0-1 6.48 ERA 2.04 WHIP 1.00 GO/AO .286 AvgA 7 BB 3 K Those walks are a concern - this was a guy who walked about 3 per 9 innings the last couple years, and he's nearly one an inning so far this year. One would hope that is an artifact of his late start, but, we'll have to see how he shakes out. After starting for another month, we'll know more.

Garrett's first month as a starter with Kanny was pretty good, though compared to the stellar numbers the rest of the Kanny staff put up, he didn't stand out. Some highlights... 3 starts, 17 IP 1-2 3.71 ERA 1.12 WHIP 3.13 GO/AO .254 AvgA 3 BB 14 K 0 HR The ERA is just OK, but his peripherals are all very good - low WHIP, very high GO/AO, good control numbers, no homers given up. He is brutal on lefties - .136 AvgA, sub-1 WHIP, and an 11.00 GO/AO. All encouraging results for the 21-year-old, and perhaps indicative of him putting on some velocity as they had hoped he would.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 1, 2009 -> 09:21 AM) On a side note, I read the other day that Ridley Scott wants to take Aliens back and do either a prequel, or a reboot(which is odd since he is the original director. Its very strange to restart your own storyline). Either way, thats good news. The directors that attempted to take the franchise in another direction failed. I don't really agree with this. I thought all of the first three alien films were good, though different - the first (Scott) was more true sci-fi with some horror element, the second (Cameron) was a actioner but a good one, and the third (Fincher) was slightly less actioner and slightly more drama and sci-fi. After the third one, which I thought was a lot better than it got credit for, I was happy with the trilogy. And that is a hell of a trio of directors. Then came the fourth one. That was just awful. And I didn't even bother with AvP.

Lucy's first month in Charlotte was mediocre offensively. Considering he hadn't seen regular season pitching in almost a year, its probably about what was to be expected. He did do well defensively, and with Miller fully built into the major league squad, Donny should have some time to get adjusted (barring an injury to AJ or Miller). Here are some offensive highlights/lowlights from April: 11 games, 37 AB .217 AVG .310 OBP .270 SLG (2 XBH, both doubles) 5 BB / 9 K 1 SB (0 CS) Looking at his splits, he does hit a lot better at home (.809 OPS), and also with runners on base (.300 AVG). But he struggles on the road and, oddly, against LHP (.133 AVG). Defensively, he made no errors, and threw out 5 of 11 attempted base stealers (45%). It appears his injury isn't effecting hsi defensive abilities at least - we'll see if the hitting can come around too.

Charlotte thoughts... Good to see Cassel back starting again, but, he got beat up pretty good in the 4th. Finished with 4 IP, 5 ER, 8 H, 3 BB, 2 K. Not a great start, but, he'd been pitching 2-3 innings in relief, so maybe he just isn't stretched out yet. I hope. Wassermann 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K. After getting shelled and putting up an ERA of 18.00 his first two outings, he's now gone 6 outings with these numbers: 9.2 IP, 0.93 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, 1 BB, 10 K. He did this same thing last season after he was sent down when he was bad in his April/May call-up - had a bad outing or two, then dominated. I am probably the last person left who thinks that Ehren could be a good middle reliever, should Carrasco or Broadway continue to falter - but I think when he's got his confidence, he's pretty good. The Charlotte lineup really does suck. Gookie Dawkins is their 2nd best hitter right now, behind Andy Phillips. Other than Phillips and Lucy, maybe Kroeger, I don't know that there are any guys in there that have any chance at a major league future - and none of those three look like future starters. Cole Armstrong's OPS now down to .319. I don't know if I've seen one that low before with 30+ AB.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 02:54 PM) The way that Getz was hitting, there is no way he isn't the regular leadoff hitter. Getz is the grinder that Ozzie has been searching for. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 03:48 PM) Man that would be somethin. And you know for a fact Ozzie will run Pods at leadoff. It's a given. And yes Getz is an outstanding 2 hole hitter. His career stats as the 2 guy in the minors is really, really good. (had his best stats in the 2 spot) Hmmm...

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 03:16 PM) Bowling gets the promotion then? I can't imagine it's anyone significant. OK, I thought Zaleski was starting in W-S, but he's not. NVM on my earlier suggestions.
-
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 03:08 PM) B'ham reliever Mike Johnston has been put on the DL, Matt Zaleski was moved up to B'ham to take his place. That means that W-S has an open roster spot and Zaleski's promotion leaves them with only 11 pitchers. So, that could mean a promotion for a pitcher from Kanny. W-S is off today, so whomever it is may not move up until tomorrow. Keep in mind that Charlotte has an open roster spot now too with Marquez going on the DL. Kanny's starting rotation are all doing very well so far, so I think pretty much any of them have potential for success in a promotion. Infante seems most likely, if not, then maybe Carter or Hudson.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 02:51 PM) (sigh) Here I go having to explain a sentence long post I didn't mean to suggest these immigrants go back and forth every single day. Obviously, If the borders are shut down, you can't even cross once to, as you described, live here and earn enough to send home. Who knows how long a hypothetical border closure would even be? If we were to enforce it, you can sure as hell bet the number of Border Agents would increase dramatically and the influx of illegals (who obviously were not going to go over the border, open or not) would be cut down. I'm sure there would be a lot of resentment towards Mexicans during such a period as well. Actually, if you shut the borders, even if you put every available agent plus some National Guard in to help, you'd still only be able to focus on the major crossings. You would in fact get more people trying to cross illegally (even those that might normally be legal) in remote, rugged areas. This would also result in all sorts of other issues. The only way to truly close the border in an effective way would require hundreds of thousands of troops and agents, which is just not practical unless this was truly a national security emergency.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 02:38 PM) Not only automotive, how about a financial company that tries to sell some corporates? With this as a precedent who in their right mind would invest? The gov't will just throw debt holders under the bus like they are doing here. Obama did seem a little perturbed at the presser today. If the Chrysler debt holders were offered a reasonable deal, there is no way they would have turned it down. But, by insulting them, the gov't gave them no choice. And with the bankruptcy law on their side they feel they have a strong case going forward. Really, they have nothing to lose compared to the current offer. What Obama is doing here is ultimately the best possible outcome. And the idea that they are being pushed unfairly into bankruptcy is ridiculous - they would be there by now anyway, UNcontrolled, if not for major government assistance. Anyone who bought bonds in Chrysler were going to lose anyway.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 02:36 PM) Closing down the borders would sure screw all those companies employing illegal immigrants that work for pathetic wages. No, it would screw the businesses on the border that get legal shoppers either way. And legal shipping. ETA: Also, its a pointless discussion, as it is just not reasonably possible to do that anyway.
