I'd give him the standing ovation his first at bat. Then nothing, really. But I don't generally boo players unless they conduct themselves like assholes towards the fans or the game. I didn't boo Wise, even though he was terrible yesterday.

AAP: Ehren Wassermann
NorthSideSox72 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Adopt-a-Prospects - Closed
Not sure if he really needs to be discussed as a prospect anymore, but, he's in the minors, so... Ehren was in Spring Training, where his numbers were mediocre. He was outrighted to Charlotte (which means he cleared waivers), and is no longer on the 40 man roster. Here were his spring numbers: 7 games, 7.0 IP, 5.14 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, 6/1 K/BB Link will probably close for Charlotte, so Ehren will probably be his setup guy. -
Shirek will indeed be starting the year at High A Winston-Salem.
-
Surprisingly, Cassel is NOT on the Charlotte roster, despite apparently having nothing left to prove at AA. Regardless, he will apparently start the season in Birmingham at the top of their rotation.
-
Kanny released their roster, and Dubler isn't on it. This means he'll either repeat Bristol, or more likely, will be at Great Falls to start the season.

If Getz were put into the leadoff spot
NorthSideSox72 replied to Princess Dye's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 08:40 PM) The #2 hitter's job is to strike out a lot and sacrifice himself so that the leadoff guy can get to 2nd base. No one's job is ever to strike out a lot. That is just silly. In an ideal world, you want your 2nd hitter to be high contact, high OBP, with the ability to hit to the right side on demand. A little speed is helpful as well, and the ability to lay down a bunt. -
Special thread dedicated to shots at Wise

QUOTE (striker62704 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 09:00 AM) We won so stop whining. I'd rather have Wise go 0-4 and win then go 4-4 and we lose. Do you own his baseball card and that's why you are worried about his stats? People are whining and worried because we have a guy who can't even hit well in the minors, starting in CF and LEADING OFF on an otherwise playoff caliber team. -
QUOTE (chisox357 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 08:51 AM) I'm assuming Kuhn will plays SS Escobar plays 2B Gilmore plays 3B and Persichina is a INF bench player. In addition Dubler onlt hit .238 at Bristol last year. Welcome to the board! Dubler struggled big time at Bristol, though he was hitting more like .138 for a lot of it, then took off at the end. For a relatively high draft choice, I'd think they would push him up to A ball. But I guess he'll repeat Bristol, or be in GF - at least to start the year. I think the plan is to still have Inouye be a utility guy, and who knows how the Logan Johnson catching experiment will go in W-S, Flowers may get promoted... so there will probably be room to move up later in the season.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 08:49 AM) LINK Jeep is their only brand that makes money. Chrysler is in deep doo-doo, and I'd be surprised if they even exist in anything like their current form by 2011.

Did you check the Ticket Exchange forum? That is where these things are typically discussed.

The Official "Please Acquire Elijah Dukes" Thread
NorthSideSox72 replied to TheHolyBovine's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No thanks on the psycho. Come June, there will be options out there that aren't mentally unstable. Besides, Anderson will have taken the job by then and hitting 9th, and we'll all be less panicked than we are now. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 08:13 AM) Ok, let me be clear that I don't support warrantless wiretapping and I thought Bush's program was disingenuous. I also agree with the statement that millions of citizens were spied on w/o a warrant is false. But here it looks like people are upset that the DoJ didn't completely denounce the program or what have you. I'm no lawyer but I'm just not seeing how, in this case. They are going off the Patriot act (like it or not, it's the law, something else that was completely overblown BTW) and the state secrets reasoning is valid. It is my opinion that any warrantless wiretapping, domestically, of legal US residents and citizens, is never Constitutionally valid. The Patriot Act, from what I recall, doesn't specifically violates this, but opens the door for that possibility. And frankly I don't care if it is one person or a million, I won't accept that as OK. The state secrets reasoning is valid in so far as anything beyond that, and anything about the details of how things are done that needs to remain secret.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 07:48 AM) I can't even figure out what I'm supposed to be pissed at based on this article alone. There's just not enough information besides the fact that a different legal route was taken. For one thing, although I think it's pretty evident that someone, somewhere took a couple of extra liberties with the Constitution, the "loss of rights" I always felt was overblown. People aren't having the government randomly break into their house ranand surreptitiously place surveillance equipment into their house or whatever without warrants. They just aren't. Here is what upsets me. First, the fact that warrantless wiretapping of US citizens and legal residents would EVER exist. It simply should not. And if they can stand up and say that no legal US resident will ever be the subject of domestic surveillance without a warrant, then I'll be satisfied. Which leads to the behavior mentioned in the article. They chose not to say that - they chose to not disclose the warrantless wiretapping details. Now, I don't want them to reveal technical or secret details. But I sure as hell expect them to assure the citizens of the US that they are protected by the Constitution against warrantless surveillance.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 07:34 AM) It's a shame more Republicans aren't this reasonable. http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/04/07/fee....gop/index.html Great article. I think he's a bit rosy on the lobbyist aspect, but, his point is well taken even on that subject. I'd love to see more reasonable and intelligent opposition like this, and less screaming and yelling.

Three Cook County Townships Vote to Pursue Secession
NorthSideSox72 replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in The Filibuster
I don't think its even possible for a bunch of villages to "secede" from Cook County, even if they voted to. The village is legally subserviant to the county anyway. The state would have to step in. Though I actually do agree in principle with splitting the City of Chicago into its own county. The only way that happens is if Chicago, Cook County and the state are all on the same page. Good luck with all that. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 08:12 PM) Actually the more I read this the less I see about anything to flip out over. State secrets are state secrets for a reason which is something that privacy advocates can't get with and never will - there is openness, and then there is damage to national security. It's not really something that can be looked at in a vacuum, but of course it's neatly summarized into a sexy headline "Obama's DoJ Defends Bush-era Wiretapping" But lines can and should be drawn. This isn't about state secrets in any case - its about acquiring video, audio or other intrusively acquired private information without a warrant. And that, I feel, can indeed be black and white. FISA is there for a reason, they can even get the warrant after. But as soon as you open the door to allowing surveillance without SOME kind of judicial writ process, you are over the line, IMO. Now I will say, I am sure you are right that there are many subtelties we aren't seeing here. But on the surface, looking at what I can find so far, I am pissed as well.

Kanny has both Escobar and Kuhn? Along with Persichina and Morel? Who loses playing time, since those 4 play 3 positions? Also, seems odd to me that Innouye is repeating Kanny as a catcher, and Dubler is apparently going to be asked to repeat Rookie ball.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 06:46 PM) Out of the 2 options I think I'd prefer him being strong going to the right, esp. if Alexei can show the range at SS he showed on some work today. If nothing else, good range to your right can save a fair number of doubles. I agree. And as much of a fan of Crede's as I was, I think its unfair to try to compare Fields to a healthy Crede. But I do think that Josh will turn into a decent player over there, maybe even better than average. And I think this year he'll be better than the 2008 back back and sailing throws Crede, overall. -
Iowa SC legalizes Same Sex Marriage in Unanimous Decision

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 06:44 PM) Possibly an anomaly related to how he's counting Mormons. Who knows. Whatever it is, I'd bet big money that Utah won't allow gay marriage in my lifetime. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 06:43 PM) Wasn't the play he made today going to his right? Yes. I think he has it reversed. Fields missed a ball to his left today (though honestly I'm pretty sure most would have missed that one), and he has looked to me to be weaker to his left. He is stronger to his right, especially with that cannon QB arm of his. -
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 02:44 PM) they speak german in austria. I don't think there is any 'Austrian' language. Thats like someone saying 'I speak American!', when quoted person actually speaks english. That was pointed out, but, as I've been told, its not the same German as in Germany. Now, that could mean something as subtle as American English, as you said. Or it could be more so, like Quebequois (horribly misspelled I am sure), or variations of Spanish, or who knows what. I was just pointing out that there is a difference. In any case, it was just a trivia thing, something I had encountered in a business setting. They may have been exagerrating the extent of the dialectic differences. Carry on.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 05:12 PM) To answer your question...Silver does some simple numbers with the declining %ages of evangelical whites in each state and comes up with a list of when each state will be unable to get 50%+ votes for a gay marriage ban. You can forget Utah, period. -
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 06:01 PM) I guess Torres or Dawkins. Also, it seems Justin Cassel is coming back to B'ham. That can't be right. That means the rotation would be Egbert-Marquez-JVB-Whisler-Broadway, and NOT Cassel? Seriously??? That makes zero sense. Put Whisler in the pen, same with Broadway for that matter. How do you send the Southern League ERA champ with nothing left to prove BACK to B-Ham?
