  1. QUOTE (GREEDY @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 10:58 PM) I don't care where you want to "see" the guy... If I ran into his ass at the supermarket, I would tell you he is a first baseman. So, you are saying that it doesn't matter if you've seen him play or not, it just matters what he looks like at the supermarket? Fabulous.
  2. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 09:33 PM) Completely unneccesary and not funny. Dude, seriously, let it go. Crede is not coming back here, at least not any time soon.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 07:32 AM) Merge them. 100% yes. I would argue there are literally hundreds of places in our federal government where we would be doing this to eliminate duplicity and create efficency. And improve communications between agencies.
  4. Seems odd to me, a sudden $550B run on MM accounts like that. Odd, as in, that wasn't likely to be the work of general customers in the populace. As in, a few financial institutions were doing it themselves. Or, this was actually something fully under the covers, that wasn't supposed to happen at all, and wasn't known to the people that should know. Either way, that would be a scary thing. But, I have huge doubts this actually occurred.
  5. QUOTE (ROC Sox Fan @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 05:25 PM) Getz following in Griffey and Erstad's footsteps... And Gload. Don't forget the Gload!
  6. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 04:09 PM) The problem is MOST AMERICANS DO NOT WANT THIS BILL! What a f***ing shocker, eh? Really? Last few polls I saw still showed majority support, although the support levels were dropping.
  7. QUOTE (Kid Gleason @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 04:10 PM) Peanut butter and honey, thank you very much. I also like peanut butter on toast. I'm not a fan of jelly with my PB. Ohhh, good call. Toast, crunchy peanut butter, and I've got some Prickly Pear honey that has just a little extra spice to it. Awesome. Wow, you can tell I have a cold, I'm craving comfort foods.
  8. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 03:59 PM) The program is closed circuit. You can't have a business make up thousands of fake addresses to send from like you can for email. Again, how many businesses are there in this country? Millions perhaps, or at least hundreds of thousands. Even if the security is tight enough to truly limit to 1 box each, that is still an enormous spam potential. There is an easy way to fix this.
  9. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 03:03 PM) Yeah. . . the limbics are a set of paleomammalian brain structures. . . the hippocampus, amygdala, and such. Not sure about adding them to a beer recipe, but it would be different. Perhaps you were instead referring to the Belgian lambics? Authentic fruit lambic actually has the fruit added to the beer usually several months after initial fermentation, with the added fruit sugars initiating an additional round of fermentation. Sort of the Belgian equivalent of krausening. I'm sure DABearSoX is looking for a quicker turnaround on his beer. Got to keep the brews coming. Now I'm thirsty and I want a PB&J. LOL Yes, I meant lambic, not limbic. Slip of the keyboard.
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 03:55 PM) There are services already in place for targeting mass junk-mailers. Voluntary and only apply to specific ones, or small groups - at least, last I looked.
  11. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 03:55 PM) But you will know the exact address of the source of the spam....and can then block that physical address. You will see the 'spam' pretty much like a .pdf of an actual piece of junk mail. Seems like an easier way to get rid of junk mail then the paper version. How many hundreds of thousands of businesses are there out there? Are you going to block every one as they hit you? I wouldn't want to waste that much of my time. if you have a full-on opt-out feature, then it has become no different than email anyway, so what was the point? The easy way to get rid of junk mail, is to get rid of junk mail - not give it a new path to follow.
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 03:50 PM) more info I guess I'm intrigued because I'm all for having a paperless environment. Better solution - a Do-Not-Mail list, like the Do-Not-Call list. Immediate and affirmative, and would result in a dramatic drop in paper. And it does no bad to the businesses sending them, because people who want them will still get them.
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 03:50 PM) more info I guess I'm intrigued because I'm all for having a paperless environment. The few and very rare circumstances where I'd need to get information to a bunch of neighbors quickly (like a lost pet), is far, far, far outweighed by the ridiculous amount of spam that we will get on here. This explanation, from the site itself, is trying to make you feel better. Its a spam terminal waiting to happen.
  14. QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 02:37 PM) Yea....it's gonna be quite the experiment...i have been egged on by other brewers b/c from research online i can't find anyone that has actually tried doing it....I mean there's Pizza beer but no PB&J beer? I found a place that sells powdered peanut butter so I am going to use that for the peanut butter part obviously - using real peanut butter or peanuts who kill the beer with oils. You should be able to use guidance from recipes for limbics, to see how to add in grape or strawberry or whatever.
  15. Armstrong looks like, maybe, he could be an OK bridge to Flowers, if necessary. Lucy, if he can come back healthy, can be a good backup choice.
  16. Strawberry jelly, crunchy peanut butter (the real/organic kind with the oil), on sourdough.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 02:18 PM) It is just beautiful outside! And, for the first time in years (about 4 years I think), I am home sick from work. If I was "sick", this would be great. Unfortunately, I am actually sick and feeling like crap, so I'm stuck inside. Dammit.
  18. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 02:02 PM) I'm talking per person. Our current 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 1 block west of campus is $1040 total, and it's pretty standard. OK, that makes more sense.
  19. QUOTE (MO2005 @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 01:54 PM) OBP 2008 Stats Wise .293 Anderson .290 Owens .250 LOL, really? Owens had 16 at bats in 2008. You can't possibly draw anything meaningful from that.
  20. QUOTE (MO2005 @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 01:47 PM) QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 01:36 PM) I'd rather have any of Owens, Anderson, Cook or Kroeger than have Wise on the Opening Day roster. What are any of those guys going to do offensively that Wise can't do seriously? 2 of them are minor league guys with no experience and the other 2 shouldn't even be major league players? You pick a guy with an onbase percentage which never has been over .300, a guy who can't hit the ball out of the infield, and 2 minor league guys with no experience. How do you back up your claim? Simple, and you pointed it out for me... they are guys who have played minimally at the major league level and haven't been proven out yet. That is one reason. Owens played one significant stint in the majors, in 2007, and his numbers then were better than what Wise can put up (plus Owens can field his position, though not throw well). Anderson is a defensive plus out there, and like Owens has shown good numbers in the minors, but has yet to be given much of a chance to play. Cook, same deal. Kroeger, same deal. Basically, I'd rather give a shot to someone who has flourished through the minors but hasn't had much major league play yet, then a guy like Wise who has played parts of 6 seasons in the majors and never been any good. Also, if you didn't notice, Wise wasn't even good in the minors - he has a career .259/.309/.422 line in the minor leagues, despite repeating multple levels multiple times. The other guys in the minors? Owens: .291/.359/.358. Anderson: .293/.364/.474. Cook: .260/.375/.469. Kroeger: .286/.341/.452. Those are all better than what Wise put up, and they haven't had the chances that Wise has gotten. Add to this, that Wise is a terrible defensive CF, and not that good on the corners either. Anderson is far better, Owens is a little better, Cook is rumored to be a good defensive player at all three positions (I don't know about Kroeger). All better than Wise. Wise has proven to be not very good. These other guys might not be either, but their minor league numbers say they'll be better than Wise, more than likely.
  21. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 01:50 PM) Hm, Ames it really depends on the location, but if you want to live near campus, a 3-bedroom is usually between 325-550. In 1995-1996, we have a 2 bedroom a half block from campus (kind of a crappy one), and paid $305 a month total. Looks like rent has actually gotten even cheaper there.
  22. QUOTE (lostfan @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 01:38 PM) A few days ago he pretty much blasted the GOP for being uncooperative on the stimulus bill, and in so many words he said the Democrats won, so that's how things are going to be. Ah, so I did miss something. I saw some quotes from that rant, but didn't see that one. No need for him to be petty about it.
  23. I'd rather have any of Owens, Anderson, Cook or Kroeger than have Wise on the Opening Day roster.
  24. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 01:30 PM) The loopholes in interrogation methods. The method of standing up for what Nancy Pelosi wrote for him in the House version of the "stimulus" - telling House GOP "I won". Yea, some change. Some outreach. There's a lot more but the point's the same. The "loopholes"? From what I have seen, any perceived "loopholes" just aren't true.Obama promised to stop torture, and he's making his way in that direction. And where did you get this telling the GOP "I won"? I must have missed that.
  25. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 01:21 PM) Really? I wouldn't know because I don't listen to them. However, the facts are plainly speaking for themselves because he's going back on damn near everything he said he would do with the exception of the things that will placate the hard left. Now that is just patently untrue. He has, as far as I know, "gone back on" a grand total of one thing: lobbyists in the administration. What other promises has he gone back on? Meanwhile, he has also screwed a few things up - i.e. some of this cabinet nominations, and his inability to exert more influence over Congress about these stimulus bills. Those aren't broken promises though. On the other hand, he has done a number of things he said he'd do, already. Look at his XO's, that we have discussed in here. Obama has stumbled, but he's still more good than bad, so far. That's a far cry better than what we had before him. Though there is still lots of room for improvement, and the lobbyist thing irritates me to no end.
