The Ozzy thread makes me wonder... How hilarious would it be to have a reality show involving Ozzy and Ozzie? I mean, two of the least understandable people in the limelight, both with tempers, trying to understand the words coming out of the other one's mouth. How could that not be funny?

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 07:49 AM) I wonder if they put Ozzie on a 10-20 second delay Most radio is done with a 5 second dump loop or the like, so yeah, I'm sure they'll have a finger on the button.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 05:04 PM) http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune....ams-on-tra.html Did he mean Armstrong? That is really weird. Stewart is a free agent and so is Miller, so I guess its possible the Sox went and signed them both and didn't tell anyone yet. But that would be bizarre to sign them both. I could see signing one, as in Stewart, but... Corky Miller? And why would he say this in a press conference, when neither players' names have been announced as part of the org? Furthermore, doesn't this hurt Armstrong's trade value, since you are all but announcing that Armstrong won't be on the major league club? This also would seem to indicate they have little or no confidence in the ability of Donny Lucy to come back healthy from his injury. Just bizarre.

Sox May be Interested in Jorge Cantu
NorthSideSox72 replied to BaseballNick's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Cantu puts up similar offensive numbers to what I'd see Fields doing - Fields has slightly more power, but would have a lower average. Defensively, Cantu is pretty awful at third. Fields is no gold glover either, but he's not as bad, and seems to keep improving there. Fields is also cheaper for longer. Fields > Cantu -
Stark Says Sox Signed Van Benschoten

Jeez, look at his junior year. Those are just absurd numbers. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 12:05 PM) If OC accepts, you have to keep Alexei at 2B. Well, maybe not. Think about these alternatives: --Alexei in CF, Getz or Nix at 2B or --Anderson or Owens in CF, Alexei at 2B So really, its a comparison of Getz/Nix and Anderson/Owens. Which would you rather have? I personally think that Getz is going to be a solid major league 2B, but I know I am in the minority. So I'd prefer not starting Owens/Anderson.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 04:44 PM) We need to find a bonafide High A/AA catching prospect to step in 2010 or 2011 for AJ...or at least take about 40% of the playing time and then become a regular the following season. One month later... -
I really hope he doesn't accept. But, if he does, I would not be opposed to Alexei moving to CF, thus (hopefully) solving that problem. That does make the team a bit stronger, unless Alexei is awful in CF.

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 11:36 AM) Wow, crazy. Yeah, after three 16 hour days, the last thing I should have been doing was looking at an Excel spreadsheet for two more hours. I was having a hard time driving home and was bumping into everything when I finally made it. Got a solid 7 hours of sleep, I'm feelin' 10 feet tall and bullet proof. I took a stupid bet once in college - that I could stay awake for 72 hours. I made it to 60. At about 52, the wall turned into a bat and came after me.

We're about to have our first child, and the idea of my young kid on the internet scares the bejeebus out of me. I will have zero hesitation to monitor any use of the computer and internet by her. There is just too much risk out there.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 07:51 AM) I know Balta had originally mentioned this in another thread, but it looks like the Bureau of Land Management is backing off the sale of a lot of that land around the national parks. http://www.latimes.com/news/science/la-na-...0,2563954.story Sounds like they backed off on a few, but will continue on others.

QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 09:07 PM) You probably mean Jason Bourgeois, he's actually gone now. Part of the Brewers organization. I always thought he deserved a shot, but apparently Andy Gonzalez & Dweezy's power outshined him.... in '07 and '08. Yeah, I meant Jason, no idea where I got the Justin from. Maybe its his brother. This reminds me... after KW's Wild Winter Wishlist fun is over, around February, I'll have to revise my lists.

If no other pitchers are acquired, after the Vaz trade...

3 votes for Egbert. I think Heads may have 3 User ID's. -
QUOTE (Wanne @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 03:08 PM) Cole Armstrong can't be too happy. Unless it's Kenny's vision to have Flowers and Cole on the roster in 3 years or so. I don't think they ever saw Armstrong as the Answer anyway. He was behind Lucy on the chart until Lucy was hurt, and D Lucy has not exactly been a world-beater type prospect.

UAW says they will suspend the Jobs Bank (paying 95% of salary to thousands of workers not actually working), and allow for deferred payments to health care, in addition to the concessions they accepted for 2009, to help the auto industry in the US survive. Linky.

Nuke or Bio Terror Attack in US "likely" by 2013

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 11:09 AM) From what I heard this took months of planning and was a fairly complex operation. But against a target that was much easier and softer than doing the same thing in the US. -

QUOTE (R.J. @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 09:34 AM) That's interesting - I did hear that his change-up was still pretty much experimental at this point, but the reviews I saw of his slider were still underwhelming. If he can throw even a mediocre breaking ball I think he can be solid out of the bullpen. Starting, though, might be cruel to him. Get Buehrle to teach him a cutter. I think the ideal scenario with Poreda is starting at AAA, refining his slider (which AFL scouts are saying is pretty good and improving), getting his change to be useful, and maybe picking up a cutter or modified FB. Or alternately, doing the same in the pen in Chicago. Then in 2010, you can think about starting him in the majors. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 04:52 PM) Now that the ice is pulling back, a huge majority of it. The difficulty isn't getting off of the ships. The difficulty would be getting it from a ship to a road. If we're talking about a small package, small enough to fit in a Duluth pack, then getting it ashore would be quite easy. -

QUOTE (R.J. @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 09:22 AM) I went Richard and Broadway. I must qualify this by noting that I feel that given 32 starts in the major leagues, Lance Broadway could establish himself as the worst pitcher in baseball history. I still think he gets first crack over the other guys on this list. I hope the Sox are smart enough not to trot Aaron Poreda out to a major league mound until he develops a second pitch. Poreda's second pitch, his slider, is already pretty well developed from what I have been reading. What he needs is to get his third pitch, the change-up, working effectively, to be a solid starter. -
Standing alone, I call the trade a wash. I like what we get back, particularly Flowers. Lillibridge's declining numbers over time scare be a bit, but he's potentially high reward. The other two look like they have talent but are too young to say much about yet. We lose a LOOGY who wasn't used properly anyway, and we don't have any dire need for lefty relievers anyway (Thornton, Poreda, Richard all available). Javy is the big loss, and it is a substantial one - but those 4 prospects combined are pretty close to an even match for 2 years of Javy, I think. Big key though is, we just cleared a whole bunch of payroll room. I bet KW makes use of it, and then you have to look at that combined with this trade and see how it turns out. Since this trade in a vacuum is near-even, I think there is a good chance that KW makes this into a steal. And while everyone is discussing CF, my biggest concern is the rotation. Who gets the 4th and 5th slots? (Hm, thread idea...)

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 01:49 PM) Honestly, I disagree. Nuclear weapons are heavy. You need some sort of vehicle to move them, unless you're doing multiple shipments and you have the ability to do the assembly within the U.S. Even then, moving the pieces are heavy (plutonium/uranium have really high densities) and you don't want to risk having something go wrong where you expose the material beforehand because you dropped your backpack. Moving a bomb across that border would probably be harder than you think. you need to use a vehicle, and vehicles go through checkpoints. If I was a foreign terrorist and I wanted to bring a bomb in to the U.S., I'd either try to find a port that didn't have a solid radiation sensor system (I think major upgrades on those were included when the Dems passed the 9/11 commission recommendations about 1.5 years ago), or more simply, I'd charter a boat, park it 20 miles or so offshore of somewhere like Maine or Oregon, someplace where the coastline is pretty luxurious and open but where there is highway access without a lot of security, and I'd bring it ashore in a small boat. I believe the state of Oregon has somewhere between 1 and 2 troopers who's job it is to patrol their coastline. I think that's by far your easiest access point. No sensors of any sort, the only thing that stops you is blind luck, and if you pose as tourists having a campfire from their SUV or someone doing some fishing, there's no real reason for suspicion. I'll tell you the best way to get it into the US - over water, from Canada. You could take a boat from a Canadian great lakes port to, say, Chicago, without drawing any kind of notice at all. Or alternately, you can portage and canoe your way across in Minnesota, and look like every other person with a boat and large pack. -
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 12:28 PM) CopyTrans Suite is a good program to backup an ipod or remove songs from your ipod to your hardrive Yeah I forgot about that, you could also copy from your iPod, if you have one. But, I have had major trouble with that before - sometimes iTunes will not only not allow you to play those files, it may delete files off your iPod if it thinks you shouldn't have them.

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 12:10 PM) How do you import them over? My other laptop crashed so I can't get on it, obviously. I checked my purchase history and they are all there listed, but not in my library. iTunes may offer a service to re-download, since they apparently keep a list for you. But anything you didn't download from iTunes is only on your old laptop for sure. iTunes keeps its music files on your hard drive, as far as I know (certainly its that way for me). Backup drives are a necessity, my friend.
