If the particular style of the convention stage has any bearing on your feelings about a candidate, then I think you maybe have some odd priorities. Or, you are looking for an excuse to like or not like someone.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 02:22 PM) Why does Obama scare the hell out of you? I think its interesting that so many GOP'ers were using this "scares me" and "anyone but X" argument against Hillary in the primaries, but now that Obama has the nomination, they are using it on him. One can, and should, question whether or not Obama can deliver on his promises. Same of McCain, although he promises a lot less, which may be more realistic. But this idea that Obama is somehow less trustworthy is just strange to me. None of us know these people personally, but in my perception, I think Obama was probably the most worthy of my trust of any of the major candidates in either party.

QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 02:18 PM) So walking around at lunch I saw someone wearing a shirt that read "Not Ready" and had a picture of Barack. I really don't understand how that can even be a an issue when he have had someone who can't even speak correctly in the white house for the last 8 years. Actually, compared to all the bizarre and bogus reasons I've seen some folks in this country decide not to vote for Barack Obama (race, supposed religious ties, perceived lack of a plan, or not standing for the national anthem), his inexperience I find to be a very valid concern. Not necessarily a deal breaker by any means, but definitely something to take seriously.

I think this talk that Clinton is in better position to beat McCain is missing some key facts that became clear in the primaries. One, Obama was waaaaay better at building a ground game. Two, he was a lot more positivist in his campaign, which appealed to a lot of people. Three, his charisma and that positivism helped draw huge numbers of new voters - something we haven't seen a candidate do in a long time. Add those already-present factors to the fact that Obama's particular profile draws a bunch of new states into the race (VA, NC, MT, etc.), and Obama's amazing ability to raise cash, means that Obama is far better equiped to win in November than Clinton would have been.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 12:34 PM) I don't think Jim Jeffords even got the same venom that Lieberman has gotten. Jeffords? the independent from NH or VT or whatever? He was seen as a wacko, and that was a different time, when each party had subsects that were still considered valid parts of their parties. Nowadays, its party line or none at all.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 11:18 AM) Not even close. The Repubs pulled McCains support and propped up another candidate against him. They sure as heck haven't had anywhere NEAR the public bile for McCain that Joe has gotten from the Dems. The ire is at par with the level of perceived variance from the party platform. McCain hasn't gone as far off the ranch as Lieberman did. I don't think there is a significant difference between the parties on this one.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 10:22 AM) i dont really feel like having THIS argument... again. and obviously it's even harder for me to defend him now. BUT, i'll still say that i trust him more than Obama on his politics. How many times have we already seen Obama flip flop? Public financing? That alone was enough to sicken me of Obama. He's on that goddamn high horse about a NEW kind of politics but when it actually comes to it and he sees an old school opportunity to get an edge, his old promise flies out the window. New politics my ass. He's just as sleazy as anyone. At least Edwards stuck to the poverty thing -- something that, as we saw again, doesn't win anyone votes. Obama flipped on immunity for telecoms, no doubt. But the public financing bit was more on McCain than Obama, IMO.

Anyone else notice that the BAL manager looks a lot like William Shatner?

Rockies put Taveras + Fuentes on waivers

QUOTE (BearSox @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 07:53 PM) I hope that was a joke comment... all from what I have seen from Owens is bad reads, bad angles, and just overall pretty terrible in the OF. I think Taveras is pretty crappy myself, but he is leaps and bounds better then Owens in every area of the game. Not a joke at all. Arm aside, Owens is a decent CF. Certainly a lot better than Swish (not that that's saying a lot). Problem is the noodle arm. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 09:03 PM) That speech was basically the anti-campaign version of Hillary. I mean seriously like the polar opposite. I would actually vote for her if she was really like that. That's exactly why I didn't want to vote for her. She can change character better than some academy award winning actors. She's just as false as can be.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 12:49 AM) i dont like obama. i just still don't buy his bulls*** and i hate listening to great guys like kennedy and warner drool over him. (yes i know it's the convention). i guess this is gonna be my first 'hold my nose' vote. I always found Obama a lot more believable than Edwards, who came off like a used car saleseman.

Have they announced all the AFL players yet?

Interesting that there is no Danks. Armstrong is also interesting - he may be the backup C next year, if he can hit lefty pitching (I haven't checked his splits, but yes, I realize he hits lefty). -

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 11:13 PM) makes it hard to think about all the games that we definitely should've won (that game against the A's not too long ago, the game against CLE at the beginning of the year, the game against the BoSox where Danksy had his no-no through 6+, as well as Javy's no-no through 5+, there are a number of other games i'd have to look back to as well... sigh) we could very easily be 25-30 games / .500 at this point, but i'll take where we are right now, just keep winning please.. we're on pace to score ~840 runs, with ~240 homeruns @_@ Every team in baseball has a few that got away every year. -

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 05:48 PM) Won't happen IMO. The Dems who are currently complaining about it will fully endorse the electoral college if they think they have will have an advantage for a while. Probably. I can dream. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 07:46 PM) Taveras is better than Owens because he can actually play defense. From everything I've seen, he's a much better fundamental player and would make a much better 4th outfielder. He still sucks though, and he wouldn't get past all of the NL teams, let alone getting to the White Sox. Fuentes is good, but the same waiver rule applies, as he wouldn't get past several NL teams before even getting to the bottom of the AL. This is non-news regarding the White Sox as far as I'm concerned. Fun to talk about all the same though. Owens can play defense... he just can't throw. -

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 05:41 PM) For sure. There is actually a good chance McCain gets the popular vote and loses electoral college (and the election). And in a way, I'd like that, because then you'd have the GOP getting bit by the Electoral College bug. The Dems were bit in 2000. With them both bit, maybe we'll shelve that thing for Presidential elections finally. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 03:18 PM) Dammit, where's our Jomentum National polls are still useless. Check the swing states and do the math, that's where it matters (unfortunately). -
QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 02:26 PM) and once again, there's a difference between a message board and the party's web site. The inability for so many posters to differentiate the two is pretty funny. I said nothing of the party website. I fail to see your point.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 12:41 PM) RNC Launches Biden Gaffe Clock Really????? If the DNC launched a McCain gaff clock, it'd have to rest every few hours. This is childish and petty. I agree its childish and petty, but frankly, you've been pouncing on every McCain gaffe with that same gusto.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 03:59 PM) I love the CNN stake out of all the "short-list" houses as if they expect the person to come running out onto the lawn naked with a giant Obama logo painted on their chest. Seriously. AHB, I think this is your best post EVAR.

Nice to see 3 of my AAP's do well. Shirek with a nice outing, Dubler has been on fire lately (8 for his last 23 with 2 doubles and 7 RBI), and Miranda with a walk-off winning hit (he's 6-for-14 with a double, 2 RBI, a walk and no strikeouts since his promotion to W-S). So, Cole Armstrong has filled in nicely for Donny Lucy at Charlotte. Hitting near .300, has good defensive skills. Any chance he is the backup C next year? Hall is on an option next year I believe.

Well, not my top pick, but not bad either. I think Richardson or Kaine would have been better choices. On the bad for Biden, the bankruptcy bill sticks out to me. But he's got some good too - foreign policy experience, for example. One thing I always respected Biden for was, early in the primary season, he was the ONLY candidate in either party to offer an Iraq plan that wasn't basically "get out now" or "stay the course". And at that time, I think his plan was a good one. It wouldn't work now, and the situation has changed a lot, but I thought it was good to see a candidate offer a real alternative.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 03:03 PM) Why read yesterday's news in print when you can read the news "as it is happening" on the internets? THAT is why people are doing fewer newspaper subscriptions. But that's also why many papers are putting huge changes into their websites, trying to be as up to date as everyone else.
