  1. I was actually watching a NESN broadcast of a Red Sox game and they had Hawk in the booth as a guest, and he told a bunch of stories about Yastrzemski. And at the end, he told the Red Sox broadcasters that the White Sox are one of the best clubs in baseball. Always the homer But I definitely enjoyed Blackjack in the booth, he's pretty good. Adept analysis. I'd love to see him replace DJ, personally, but he's too busy with the baby clothes
  2. QUOTE(letsgoarow @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 01:36 PM) pods looks like 2005 pods which is a good thing.....lets get another win in oakland ....LETS GO JON BOY except that he hit a home run
  3. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 02:32 PM) Greeny from Mike & Mike has us going to the playoffs, im not sure if its through wildcard or division but playoffs is playoffs. He had us as a wildcard. and you're right, recent history proves that wildcard berths are as good as any other berths.
  4. Awesome game! Very little to dislike about this outting! In soxtalk tradition, though, I have to point out the hilarity of Erstad's swings v. Harden. If we ever face Harden again, I hope ozzie benches him. I mean he swung at and missed like 5 pitches that were exactly the same. I couldn't tell exactly what they were, looked like 2 seamers maybe, but he didn't come within 2 feet of them any time, except once at which point he meekly fouled it off. He got an infield hit, though, can't question his work ethic. Also, I'd like to see Jermaine try to punch it the other way for a little bit, he can't keep trying to pull everything if he's gonna break out. Anywho, like I said, a fantastic outting!
  5. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 12:55 AM) Not just you. Just about 90% of soxtalk including myself. And I'll gladly be on his nuts/eat crow, etc.. if he keeps doing this the whole season. Great win, Count way to man up despite the other things going on privatly if true. Your the man. I'd just like to take the opportunity to point out that I'm not one of them. See, on the few occasions where I'm lucky enough to be right, I'd better rub it in before people notice it's not a trend.
  6. QUOTE(greg775 @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 12:58 AM) Kong sure looked frustrated after his last at bat, the line out to rf. It's hard to believe one pitcher (Johan) can be so dominant against us. Is this gonna continue all year and for years to come? I hate to be an ass, but for some reason I'm not a big Erstad fan. Just not. At least our pitching was good again today. So there's hope. But I think you all have to admit it wasn't a good homestand. No, it wasn't good overall but it was promising in a lot of ways. Gotta be impressed with Javy, and especially Danks. QS in his first start, only gave up a hit in one of his 6 innings. Not too shabby! Besides, did you really expect the matchup of Johan Santana v. John Danks to work in our favor? It was a penciled-in loss all the way
  7. QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 7, 2007 -> 09:24 PM) I thought Wilbon was a Sox fan which would explain part of the reason they put it on PTI besides the obvious AJ angle. Wilbon claims he's a Sox fan when it's convenient. I.E. when they win the world series.
  8. QUOTE(Craig Grebeck @ Apr 8, 2007 -> 01:35 AM) Huh? He's getting a lot of seeing eye and bloop singles. I understand he's had some hits but if the Sox are really committed to him in CF they might want to give him a day/AB off. I'm as big a fan of BA as everybody else around here, but to say Erstad is just getting seeing eye singles and bloopers is not accurate. He's working counts and hitting the ball well. He did happen to have a bloop single today, but even without that he's playing well. Seriously, put him in LF and BA in CF. And then use a whole bunch of two-letter acronyms like LF CF BA SP and KO
  9. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Apr 7, 2007 -> 08:33 PM) So he was good against the White Sox. That also means he had a 5+ ERA against the rest of the league that year. I don't know about you, but I'd rather not see that Vazquez. Good point. Because he won't be playing the White Sox at all this year! Knock on wood. Sweet, sweet game though Javy. I thought it was gonna be tough with the early strike zone being so small, but as the game went on it became more reasonable. Now let's just hope this gets Contreras and Garland up off their asses. And Danks...just don't get killed. A loss against Santana in your first major league appearance is more than acceptable.
  10. QUOTE(Balance @ Apr 7, 2007 -> 11:48 AM) There's a side-angle shot where, in my opinion, you can see the ball's trajectory alter ever-so-slightly when it nicks AJ's elbow. And, as has been said earlier in this thread, the umpire probably went off of sound as opposed to sight. Balance is absolutely correct. The PTI segment only showed the straight-on replay in which it looks pretty obvious that that ball didn't hit AJ, but on the side view the ball definitely changes trajectory at the exact point of AJ's back arm, which you can't even see on the head-on view. It definitely hit him, Wilbon's just a huge Cubtard. I forgive him though.
  11. I actually like Hawk more than DJ. For a color commentator, DJ's stories sure are slow and he doesn't have much of a delivery. Hawk on the other hand can tell a story like nobody else, even if he is a super-homer. Beyond that, the initial point of this post was that Chicago fans are sophisticated and don't need to be coddled into liking the Sox. To that I say, we're sophisticated enough to know how the game's going without Hawk's every cue. That's where the weatherman analogy falls through. If Hawk's job were to merely announce facts, he'd be a damn poor play-by-play guy but it's not. Also I think his codgery dust-bowl-era sayings are highly amusing, and when he gets so into the game on a Joe Crede walkoff that he can barely speak, that's when I'm most glad to have him. He's on our side.
  12. My friend mentioned the possibility that if Mark misses a start, we just give Masset the start and pull up Haeger to the pen. Don't see why not, Masset earned it.
  13. QUOTE(soxfansince04 @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 05:04 PM) Today is my birthday, and I have an exam in two hours, and I don't have any presents or anything from anyone, but the Sox finally pull out a win!! Happy birthday! Love, AJ Pierzynski and Roberto Hernandez P.S. Another in the long list of weird ways A.J. can win games
  14. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Apr 6, 2007 -> 01:04 AM) Since I keep goin, I will continue the early posting of the gamethread. Lets rough up Silva like usual and Vaz can you please make it to the 7th. I feel like although it is only one start it, this one will really determine his season. The division rivals and if he can shut them down, I think his confidence will carry on for awhile and we can finally see that dominance that he had with the 'Spos. I have total faith in Vazquez! Don't ask me why, it's called "faith" because that way I don't have to explain myself. Time to continue the win-streak!
  15. QUOTE(joeynach @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 03:19 PM) Something I noticed about Massett's fastball is that it tends to run a lot, but it tends to run right into a right handed hitters swing place or hot zone. Im pretty sure its a two seamer with a lot of zip and movement, which I like, but I dont like it being thrown to RH hitters and being a pitch that runs to middle in to in. That is indeed the power spot for most RH hitters and so far it has seem to hurt him. I think a little location adjustment would fit him well starting the ball much further away and letting it run to be an outside fastball or throwing a strait 4 seamer to RH hitters when he wants to throw in. Anyone else notice the same. I'm not sure what you're getting at. His pitch runs inside to righties, but it'll only run into their "power zone" if you throw it middle or outside. If you pound it inside, it'll run right into their fists and he'll get a lot of players out. Too much motion on a fastball is never a problem, you just have to locate according to the way it breaks. If what you're really saying is that he doesn't jam righties inside enough, I could agree with that, although his numbers don't really bear that hypothesis out.
  16. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 02:34 AM) Please stop baiting him...he can't be older than 14-15. Although Garland is "league average" in K's, WHIP and ERA (probably a notch or two above), he's far from league average in wins. I would be happy with the injured pitching prospect they got from the Tigers, Sanchez (I think). Contreras actually destroyed the Reds with strikeouts last year, and he would be one of the best NL pitchers...they wouldn't give up Bailey for him, but they might if we included another player...enough to put them over the top and definite playoff contention for this year. Crede for someone on the Angels has always been a possibility....Santana, Shields, Saunders, Figgins, Willits, Wood, Aybar, etc. I stand corrected, Crede for Santana could happen. You're right. He doesn't get $20 for that one though! I rescind my previous offer. I just hope they don't spring for any of the other players you listed. Even Figgins would get us nowhere. Santana or nothing.
  17. We got plenty of power production going on. Not that I thought we'd falter there, but we've put up some decent offense. Erstad would make a kicka$$ duke.
  18. Hahahahahahaha wow! This is the best thread ever! I'll give you $20 if ANY single one of those trades happen. And I'll furthermore guarantee you that Konerko is going nowhere. Thanks for the fun though, after the first two games I could definitely use some.
  19. QUOTE(daa84 @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 04:20 PM) he actually got lucky...hung a slider and the guy missed it holy crap, you people can complain about anything. His slider is pretty darn good. Also, who was it who said our bullpen is a disaster? what evidence do you have of that?
  20. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Apr 3, 2007 -> 06:34 PM) Yeah, that is why I listed the "other players" making less than 415K since I didn't check who made the roster. If you just add 4 players making around that number, that would be an additional $1.660 for something around $96.225 paid to players, then you have to add the buyouts and other money to get to the exact figure. gotcha. those jerks, making us look like the yankees! they've got it in for us!
  21. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 3, 2007 -> 06:54 PM) Probably the same delusional half that think they'd make way better major league managers than him... Yeah seriously. And does anybody here remember when manuel was our manager? unless you're guaranteed to get someone BETTER than ozzie, which is pretty unlikely, no sense in kicking his butt out the door.
  22. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 3, 2007 -> 02:48 AM) Haeger's capable of throwing multiple innings. Why wasn't he chosen? Regardless of his poor spring training statistics, his greatest asset to White Sox is durability. Not to mention a proven track record of success in the minor leagues. Just look at yesterday's game -- Haeger could have relieved Contreras in the second and completed the game. Even if the score remained the same, and he gave up just as many runs as the bullpen, the point is he would have saved the remaining arms. Looking ahead to Wednesday, Masset won't pitch. I wouldn't count on Sisco or Aardsma beyond one inning. If the worst were to occur and Garland leaves early, it's not going to be pretty. Situations such as these is why Haeger would have been a perfect addition to the roster. It doesn't even matter to me whether he'll walk the world as a reliever. He offers what no one else does. If the worst happens two starts in a row and the relievers come in in the second inning, it's never pretty for the bullpen regardless of its makeup. I don't think that's a fair criticism.
  23. That's only 21 players Sorry, that was in response to RME's quote
  24. QUOTE(max power @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 11:29 PM) How am I going to fill the vast void in my life that is the lack of a new grass pattern? Alcohol? Drugs? Sexually deviant behavior? Probably
