  1. QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ May 28, 2008 -> 03:23 PM) Sad when I know an inning is over when Thome or PK is coming up. meh, he hit it alright. a few feet over and it's a gapper
  2. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 28, 2008 -> 03:21 PM) I just realized that CQ is my PTC today pretty sure that's cheating
  3. ugh....well i guess it wasn't the worst bunt ever. but it was close. and a good play by betancourt. but ugh......................
  4. QUOTE (Reddy @ May 28, 2008 -> 02:55 PM) i think if they do it twice. either that or they're not supposed to be allowed to grant time or something. either way, this ump didn't get the memo
  5. also, isn't it supposed to be a called strike now if a hitter calls time when the pitcher has already started their motion? i heard something about that to speed up the game...or maybe they were just wrong because it was on the ESPN telecast last sunday
  6. Is anybody else watching on mlb.tv? and does anyone else think its hilarious to hear victor martinez's mildly retarded-sounding voice say "hi, dis is veector martineh" on commercial breaks?
  7. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 28, 2008 -> 02:49 PM) did the pitch Wise strike out on bounce? Gamecast had it below the plate Pretty darn close. It was a good pitch though, nasty break.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 28, 2008 -> 02:39 PM) so the Indians DFA'ed Jorge Julio...I cant believe teams still pay that guy money to pitch in the majors... just you wait, he's gonna replace Wass in our bullpen. just kidding! ...i hope.
  9. QUOTE (SoxWS08 @ May 28, 2008 -> 02:14 PM) The Alexei is really coming along. I think it's time to DFA Uribe. OC needs to get him over now. does uribe's cleared waiver status from his previous DFA still count?
  10. QUOTE (Fotop @ May 28, 2008 -> 02:08 PM) As much as Floyd's been "lucky" w/his BABIP rate, it sure is nice to see a pitcher of ours miss bats. The strikeouts are certainly encouraging and leads me to believe he'll be solid in the back-end of the rotation for the rest of the year just on stuff alone. the thing that annoys me about BABIP is that it assumes the only good and consistent way to get someone out is to K them. while I agree that K's are nice, it kind of discounts the people who have the kind of stuff that puts batters off balance and causes them to pop out frequently. if only there was a stat for batting average on balls hit HARD into play...but that's certainly asking too much i'm aware that most deviations from the BABIP average of like .300 (or whatever it is normally) are due to luck in any case, that's probably an argument for another thread
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ May 28, 2008 -> 01:29 PM) If he can't hit a sinker baller, he won't hit anyone. heh, you say that as if westbrook was just some scrub with a sinker
  12. ugh, this is aggravating. hes not even pitching particularly badly. though he did field pretty badly...
  13. what's equally sad is that josh hamilton isn't in the top 5, whereas the top 3 are all having years well below their all-star norms
  14. As per the end of a chicagosports.com story
  15. hey ely, remember when hank bausch hit a ground rule double off you back in the day? sorry, i went to high school with ely. i had to.
  16. QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 28, 2008 -> 10:24 AM) What are some examples of teams that have had offense constructed as we do now that have won a World Series?Oakland has competed but hasnt won it all,it seems like you need to hit for average eventually to be successful.Maybe the 05' team was constructed in this way just not to the extreme as it is now with the on base %. I would say our lineup is significantly more powerful than Oakland's has been in the last 10 years. If I HAD to provide an analogue, I'd go with the Yankees, though not to the same extent as their lineup. They've got us beat on patience by a decent degree even with our new focus on OBP. Also, it seems to me that a different type of team wins the World Series every year, so I'm not sure you can draw many conclusions from who wins. '05 sox were completely different from the '06 cards who were completely different from the '07 bosox.
  17. batting average doesn't mean nothing... but it's close.
  18. QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Apr 28, 2008 -> 02:36 AM) Cubs fans are hexed i didn't want to tell anyone, but i buried shoeless joe's jockstrap in wrigley field's bullpens almost 100 years ago... yes, i have a delorian.
  19. I don't see how a winning record is a warning sign of anything. Are we gonna panic every time we start well? Very strange logic to me.
  20. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 25, 2008 -> 06:45 PM) He's 4 for 24 and has seen the most playing time out of any non-starter. He has yet to show that he can handle MLB pitching. So, to respond to your statement, he is getting playing time. Not as much as Uribe, but he's failed to grab the bull by the horn. Least we forget that Quentin started the year on the bench and hit his way into the starting lineup. The original starter, of course, was Alexei Ramirez. He's getting opportunities to get hot and is not taking them. That's on him. He JUST moved to the U.S. like 2 months ago. It will take a certain number of regular AB's for him to adapt, then I think we'll see the production out of him. Honestly, I think that, since our offense has started to struggle somewhat, we should bite the bullet and put alexei (the long-term offensive threat) in at 2b regularly. get the US conversion thing out of the way and then see what he can do. judging from his swings last night, i think he can progress pretty well. he certainly has the bat speed. i don't think he's that far off from being able to fight off breaking pitches, either. i was opposed to pulling uribe previously but that was because we could eat his bat for a while. doesn't look like we can anymore. give alexei the starting job. oh and back on topic, i don't know if we need to pull cabrera from the 2-hole. generally speaking he's a pretty good OBP guy, and consistent. he's reached base in all but one of our games this season so i think you leave him, even if he's struggling with the bat a little. beyond that, i like CQ in the role he's in now. we've almost got 2 middles of the order. a power hump then a little mini power hump after the first one, with CQ getting on base as well. it's a dangerous order the way it's situated now, and if OC gets off the schneid, it'll be even more dangerous.
  21. we're not re-signing crede so why again?
  22. i can't remember, can crede hit in the clutch? and this is coming from a guy who doesn't BELIEVE in "the clutch"! gutsy performance by floyd, ignoring the final stat line. oh and by the way, is it just me or did that ump's strike zone have some reaaaally fuzzy edges? it was like a lopsided trapezoid. and i'm not even sure that's geometrically possible. okay, i'm being informed that it IS possible. still, i have my doubts.
  23. how 'bout no, scott... seriously, he can't even play his primary position that well (YET!), let alone a middle infield position. no thanks, i'll take any of the other three options
  24. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Apr 25, 2008 -> 01:29 AM) interesting the Cubs are the lovable losers even though they have a .514 winning percentage. also, they're not lovable. the double whammy of fallacies.
  25. very true on all counts. and even when he wasn't leading the league in all these stats, he was near the top and was generally surpassed by a 'roider. look it up.
