That is a good point I really hadn't considered for pitchers in general this year. They are going to be a lot lower mileage than normal because of no baseball this spring. This will allow the Sox to manage their growth instead of the usual path of very few innings pitched in their draft year like usual.

Who all are posters looking at for players we should target as UDFA signings? For obvious reasons, let's exclude anyone who is a high school player and 99.9999% for sure going to college instead of taking $20k to sign.

Let's hear the overall opinions on the overall draft philosophy the Sox employed over the past two days. Did they do it right, or could have they have done better?

The Sox really haven't drafted high school arms to the extent that they have a track record to measure them by. Though with the two they got last year, and now Kelley this year, that will be something put to the test.

If the rumors are true, OF help could be on the way via Cuba on July 2.

When Trout was drafted, you didn't lose picks for going over your allotment. It's a different world now.

Man that is a great start to a rebuild of the system.

He is going to get $3.5 million if he takes a million dollar haircut. If he didn't agree to that with the Sox, where was his next landing point? Who else was willing to pay him that much? Slot money for $3.5 million only exists down to about pick 17, so he would have had to have a full slot deal with one of the six teams below him to be worth it to tell the Sox no at that price. You got a lead on who would have taken him above that price?

He's a college JR who had two really medicore seasons, and pitched like a god for three weeks. He also had a shoulder injury in that time. If he goes back, he has zero leverage next year as a SR. I have no doubt they saved some money just by the fact they obviously have a deal done with Kelley as well, so they know they can make him fit.

I am going to say 3 good slot level college players, or at least for rounds 3-4.

If we saved a decent amount on Crochet, no. Not even close.

Crochet has a slot of $4.5 million. If he takes say a million dollar haircut, they can pay Kelley $2.5. If Crochet signs for $3 million they can also push about $3 million to Kelley. Both of those figures are without the extra 5% they can go over without penalty, which amounts to about $385k extra. So a scenario like Crochet signing for $3.5 means they could move the other million over to Kelley, plus the other almost $400k they can go over without penalty would put Kelley right at $3 million.
