  1. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 11:46 PM) This is truth. If anyone thinks the Sox aren't moving when their lease is up, they're crazy. As long as there is a viable destination for them to go to, they're as good as gone. If you extrapolate twitter followers, there are roughly 7 cubs fans for every 2 Sox fans CURRENTLY. To think that ratio won't shrink to 8 or 9 to 1 with a Cubs WS win is insanely naive. Chicago is well on its way to becoming a one team town in baseball. IMO it isn't a matter of if, but when. The Cubs have taken over this city over the last 35 years or so, the only way for the Sox to have a chance is if the Cubs lose games 6 and 7, Lester's arm falls off in ST 2017 and Bryant and Rizzo completely suck going forward for some odd reason, all of which are unlikely to happen. I have yet to see anything better than what they have now proposed.
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 09:46 PM) The #2 pick at least. It's Cleveland's sports year, no chance they give up the #1 pick. The Bears will figure out a way to win 5 games.
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 08:32 PM) Wonder who the emergency quarterback is? Matt Barkley I think.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 05:48 PM) if you followed any of the Lucas Museum troubles, you will realize a ballpark isn't going to be built on the lakefront. And unless JR wants to foot the bill, not in Illinois either. Yeah, real good point of the Friends of the Parks group.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 05:37 PM) They just fired their president a week or so ago If there is anything at all to the front office stuff, this is a great way to settle the issue.
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 02:58 PM) Lets not be ignorant and not imagine that the same doesn't happen on the right side. That is an aspect of politics. They want enough distance for plausibile deniability, etc. Over the years, both sides do plenty of things. That said, the whole push violence thing was bush league. It absolutely does. Heck I believed it before this crap before it was all published and proven. I just can't believe people deny it is reality.
  7. QUOTE (Carpe Diem @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 02:51 PM) My point is that you have to take into account the entire context of where things stand in the MLB. The free agent market is extremely thin and Abreu is signed for 3 more years at a very affordable salary. Say what you want about when you believe his play will start dipping, but he is still only 30 years old and a proven .300 hitter with 25-35 HR power. Those don't just fall off trees. The playoffs could not have gone any better for the White Sox. Red Sox and Rangers pitching tanks and the Nationals offense, once again, lets them down. TIME TO CHASH THESE TRADE CHIPS IN BABYYYYY This isn't true. Abreu can opt into the arbitration system at any point in the next three years.
  8. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 02:46 PM) Which basically evened out his horrific start because that's how baseball usually works. We have 3 years worth of data on Jose right now to tell us he's a good but not great hitter who happens to be horrific in the field. Is he an asset? Absolutely. Is he someone that's going to bring you a tremendous haul? Absolutely not. Like I said, I'm open to trading anyone but out of the core guys he's going to bring you the least in return so there's no definitely no need to trade him. He is a good player for sure, but you have to look at the whole package. Think of it this way, if he was currently a free agent, what kind of a contract would he currently get? Would it be a lot above 3/35? Even if it would be a bit above that, don't forget the guy can opt into arb each of the next three years. If he does recover to 2014 form, he is about to get a lot more expensive. I just don't see a lot of surplus value there, especially the arb opt in looming over head.
  9. QUOTE (Carpe Diem @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 02:43 PM) There is nothing wrong with "Guaranteed Rate Field" other than the location. The White Sox are blessed to play in a city that features one of the best skylines in the world and one of the biggest lakes in the world. WHY NOT TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT SCENERY?!?! There is absolutely no excuse the White Sox not having a SF Giants like ballpark on the water facing the city. You want to stop being a second class organization? SHOW SOME VISION! They have a lease that runs until 2033. I'd call that a pretty good excuse. Unless you are will to spot them about a billion dollars, give or take.
  10. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 02:37 PM) Which is very likely a snapshot of what his behavior would be if he were actually elected to office. I agree.
  11. QUOTE (shipps @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 02:11 PM) I dont think this is true. I think they will look at it as the next step. They will see that they have progressed further in the playoffs each of the last two years and then next year is when it finally happens. If they lose to the Dodgers I think they would feel much more defeated. Yeah, the earlier the better.
  12. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 02:23 PM) I don't think Jose's value is all that high and he's probably more valuable to the Sox than anyone else. I'm pretty much open to trading anyone but Jose is down on the list of guys it makes sense to deal. Speaking in real players terms, I think a deal for Jose Abreu right now brings the Sox back someone like Charlie Tilson or Leury Garcia, and not an A or B prospect.
  13. QUOTE (Carpe Diem @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 02:20 PM) People are getting way too worked up about his beginning of the year slump last season. He was one of the best hitters in the MLB from July 1st on and certainly MUCH better than Ryan Zimmerman. If Nationals don't want to waste the Bryce Harper era you gotta take some chances. To be fair, the first thing that a Nationals GM should bring up is those numbers. With his age, it is a legitimate question.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 02:28 PM) I thought Van Jones made a great, however obvious, point last night after the debate. Essentially, he was responding to the complaints by Trump surrogates in regards to the liberal media and the general media bias towards him over the course of the general election. He basically said that Trump can't have it both ways. He can't claim that he is so incredibly intelligent, keyed-in, and talented so as to be able to solve all the world's complex problems (trade, healthcare, immigration, etc.), meanwhile, complain about things such as media bias and rigged elections and the like. These are precisely the type of challenges he will face in office, and yet, rather than seek to work through these issues, all he can do is cry and complain that everyone and everything is out to get him. Welcome to politics and leadership, Donald. I thought it was a great point that hasn't been made enough in the face of a lack of substantive solutions or ideas offered by his camp, and all the whining and crying he has been doing about the poll results. His entire platform has been b****ing about everything.
  15. QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 12:15 PM) This whole argument that HRC doesn't direct PACs or these people aren't in the Clinton Campaign is such a cop out. I am not really concerned with the other information that is unrelated to the issue. As it's been laid out: "The campaign pays DNC, DNC pays Democracy Partners, Democracy Partners pays the Foval Group, the Foval Group goes and executes the sh*t on the ground." To act as if HRC is unaware of what was happening is silly. Now that the sausage is out on how the DNC operates behind the scenes, there really isn't room to pretend they aren't willing to go to whatever lengths it takes. We saw their discussions about their own candidates, I don't doubt for a second that coordination is absolutely taking place, but just right at the line of what it takes to be "legal"-ish so as to maintain plausible denialability in case they get caught... just like they do for everything.
  16. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 01:30 PM) WRONG. Those people just like Trump so much they're repeatedly donating. Besides, why is Hillary HACKING Trump's website?!?!?! It is the Russians, duh.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 12:26 PM) Robertson would be a pure salary dump. The Sox would be lucky to get 2 lottery ticket prospects for him, IMO. There isn't really any surplus value in Roberson's deal. The one guy in the pen who could move the needle in a deal is Nate Jones.
  18. The market for guys who are basically DH's is dead. He is now hitting years where he can opt out for arb. I don't think he has very much surplus value to be honest.
  19. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 11:01 AM) The DNC clearly had a hand in leaking it. Why would they release it that early when they wanted Trump as the Republican candidate all along? Bingo.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 11:07 AM) Oh the bank owns it now...they walked away from it because they were idiots and kept pulling money out of it to use for other things, until the point where they were too far upside down to recover. So while my parents are my problem, thankfully, the house no longer is. The home was built by some Irishmen who was in the barbed wire industry, I believe. It was also the home of an amateur boxer in the 1920's, I believe by the name of Packy McFarlin. When my parents purchased it in 1995, the home was in pretty good shape. They restored a lot of the flooring and did a lot of work restoring much of the woodwork. Unfortunately, as they aged, they simply couldn't keep up with it anymore, and then compounded that by making a number of poor financial decisions. It got to the point where they were living there in the winter of '14/'15 with no working furnace. For years I had been trying to get them to either sell of walk away from the home. Finally, I convinced them to walk away from the house and move out to Vegas and I would buy them a home here, which they could rent from me. So in May and June of '15, I went back to Joliet and helped them pack up and move out. The bank has been sitting on it since then. The house went up for auction back in April, I believe, but there were no bidders at the opening price, which I think was $350k or so. I see now that they have put it on the market at $219k. At $219k, that property is an incredible bargain, however, the home is in such disrepair, that even a reasonable renovation is cost-prohibitive in that market. I have thought about contacting one of those home renovation shows to see if they would be interested in taking it on and making a show out of it. It would be one hell of a story to show someone bring it back to life. That is an incredible background story of the house. I love it. Is that where you were raised?
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 10:01 AM) So last year I moved my parents from their home in Joliet, IL out to Vegas, as their large home had become too much for them to manage and maintain any longer. This is the home I lived in from about 1995, after I graduated high school, off and on until I moved to Vegas in 2008. The house is in a historic district, is three stories, on .9 acres, and over 100 years old. It is an amazing home, but in need of a LOT of work, particularly things like HVAC system, plumbing overhaul, probably a new roof, and other large undertakings. If any of you are a glutton for punishment, and want to relive the movie "The Money Pit," the listing is here. I love that style of houses. In my home town we have a slew of very old houses built by Pullman Standard for their management staff that I would love to buy one of. The character is just beautiful. I just don't have any repair and remodel skills at all that would be need to undertake something like that without going totally broke. Good luck to you man.
  22. QUOTE (Tony @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 10:12 AM) Here is a big point I just don't understand. Obviously, the big talking point everyone is pointing out is Trump saying he may not accept the election results on November 8. The election process is something this country takes very seriously and citizens voting is s cornerstone of our history. Yet one of the biggest soapbox issues you will hear from the right is "HILLARY WANTS TO TAKE AWAY OUR GUNS, SHE'S CHANFINF THE 2ND AMENDMENT, WE HAVE TO STOP HER!" So by Trump saying he is going to keep the country in suspense, who does he think he is appealing to? How could that possibly help him? All thoughts of intellectual consistency and political consistency have long since been thrown out the window by everyone involved in the process.
  23. QUOTE (shipps @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 09:46 AM) I find it unappealing that AGon is harping on about him being safe on the replay called out. Dude, you guys lost by 8 runs. It is impossible to say that the game plays out in the same way if that play is reversed.
  24. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 19, 2016 -> 04:45 PM) I like it. especially lake side, you are usually taking a long view. It is not THAT far from taller buildings, and it makes sense considering nothing can build in front of it to add height. Yeah, the height doesn't bother me, but the modern style will stand out amongst the historical buildings around it.
  25. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 08:31 AM) My interpretation is that trading Sale but requiring Bradley and his 4 years of control in return is a half-sell, half-buy type of thing. It honestly depends on what the rest of the deal looks like.
