QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 08:31 AM) I mean so far his last two drafts have initially looked good and the Latin pipeline is growing. Giving him facts is a complete waste of time. It is like talking to a Trump voter.
  2. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 07:00 AM) Hopefully there's some great 19/20/21 year olds theys plan on signing. Some of that may make an impact a little quicker than the 16 year olds. Pretty doubtful. The talent is almost all off of the island by that age.
  3. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 09:46 PM) Most of you guys still have Adolfo on your top 10 lists, which blows my mind. He has, by far, the most power potential in the entire system, along with the highest potential arm in RF. That carries some weight in the post steroid era.
  4. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 09:02 PM) You're right, which just furthers my point. You aren't going to call a $500k guy a substantial signing if you also signed a guy for $400k or $450k. My guess is we signed one guy closer to $1M, two around $500, and spread the remaining $1M across six players. Makes sense to me.
  5. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 08:52 PM) Where can I find the amount of outs each team has given up on the bases? We have to be in the top 5. Baseball reference, OOB's. The Sox are in the middle of the pack at 23 coming into tonight. League average is 24. Texas leads MLB at 35, followed by BOS 31, ARZ 29, DET 28. http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/...g-batting.shtml
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 08:49 PM) It would be nice if we were allowed to be fans in the fashion we want to without being TOLD how we should do it...this isn't WSI. If you start compelling people to post or "feel" a certain way, especially when there's scant reason to do so, well...you'll end up talking to yourself, mostly. lol, what. So you aren't posting to try to get people to feel a certain way? This is ridiculous.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 08:34 PM) You brought up the Cubs...which is relevant how? When I pointed out that there are no players on the Cubs that would even reasonably be extended AT THIS MOMENT, other than Bryant and Rondon, you couldn't come up with any players they should extend or that Hahn would extend. And then when I mentioned Rizzo, you ignored that. So who exactly on the Cubs would Rick Hahn be extending now were he the Cubs' GM? I mentioned free agents because other than Arrieta, all of their key players are currently locked up long-term, so who exactly COULD they be extending at this point??? So you start a thread about another team to compare it to our GM. I mention another team that has absolutely failed to lock up its young pre-arb guys. Instead you change the subject and mention a ton of players completely off-base of what you were just talking about, except for one. Your point was that Hahn somehow was a failure for the 4 or 5 guys he had locked up early, but apparently Epstein with one was a genius, because he did exactly the opposite of what you just said Hahn should have been doing, because the GM in Cleveland did it. Yep, par for the course.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 08:31 PM) Still, nobody can come up with anything that Hahn does well. Very telling. I bet he could start better threads than this.
  9. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 08:05 PM) I really hope he doesn't qualify as the big signing. Assuming we use our full pool, that would leave about $300k/per for the remaining eight signings. Not there's enough of a difference there to call Mieses a big expenditure. The dollars will always skew towards the top two or three guys. The last half of the guys will probably be under 100k each.
  10. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 08:12 PM) Interesting how people lose interest when team loses a lot It is more interesting that it motivates people when the team loses, and not wins.
  11. That is one hell of a play by Shuck getting all 420 feet in there.
  12. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 05:33 PM) Would a guy like Mieses for 500K qualify as that big expenditure? Seeing what they spent on Reyes and Adolfo over the past few years, I would be surprised if that was the big one.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 07:31 PM) Shuck always hustles down the line. But he did look out. A little too nonchalant there.
  14. Kane is going to stay in Chicago this summer. Good move Patrick. http://www.nbcchicago.com/blogs/madhouse-e...lFlowFB_CHBrand
  15. Nice to see him get out and around on an inside fastball
  16. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 06:34 PM) 99.8? 99.9999%
  17. QUOTE (captain54 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 06:27 PM) No one knows exactly how much JR owns. It's never been publicly revealed. I will 100% promise you that it is not 100%, or anything close to it.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 06:09 PM) Apparently Rizzo doesn't count, he sucks I guess. Zobrist/Heyward/Lackey/Fowler don't mean anything either. Why would Bryant want to leave Chicago if the Cubs win the World Series? Boras is all about MONEY/MARKETING. Keeping him in Chicago, he'd have a gold mine on his hand. What franchise would he be worth more to, exactly? NONE. That team doesn't exist. So out of all those young players, WHICH ONES WOULD RICK HAHN EXPERTLY GET TO SIGN EXTENSIONS TODAY AND FOR HOW MUCH??? H.Rondon Bryant Soler Russell Baez Schwarber Contreras Almora Please inform us all. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 06:14 PM) Sure it is. Implicit in this thread is the idea that the Indians doubled and will eventually TRIPLE the number of bargain contract extensions for young members of their core. That the cumulative surplus value of that trumps anything else. Hahn won't, because what players will he have to extend? Lawrie? Frazier? Nate Jones? Cabrera? Rodon? Avi Garcia? Anderson might be the only one, EVENTUALLY. Yeah, you are even contradicting yourself post to post.

H.Rondon Bryant Soler Russell Baez Schwarber Contreras Almora Please inform us all. Way to move the goalposts to free agents. I though you were talking about signing young players to early contracts? What exactly are you talking about? Or because it didn't apply here you just changed the focus completely to list more names?
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 06:01 PM) Why would they need to? They are printing as much money as the Chinese over here. And, in the next year or so, I'm sure they will start making these moves with Bryant and a few others. They've already done it with Rizzo. They can afford to be patient and wait for the best young players to separate themselves from the chaff. There's no rush to decide on guys like Russell, Baez, Soler, Schwarber, etc. Lester, Zobrist and Heyward already have their multi-year contracts. Maybe Rondon makes sense, he and Bryant. At the moment. So he hasn't done it, but that ok because something else unrelated... names, names, names. Makes perfect sense to me.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 05:14 PM) Obviously, no one else works at a place where multiple people sit a a table with coffee and a few pastries and actually discuss things. They all give their views and discuss positives and negatives and then come to a decision. The decision is rarely all one persons idea or thought. Then the highest ranking person in the room (KW here) will take that decision up to the next level (JR here) for final approval. This is way too logical for my taste. Obviously the real answer is that Rick Hahn does all of this incredible work only for Kenny Williams to burst into the room, start swearing and throwing things at Hahn, until he cowers in fear agreeing to whatever Kenny told him to do... or maybe it is your way. But I doubt it.
  22. So one other team has done this, and that is supposed to show that Hahn is some how a bad GM? Um, if it was that easy, how come the Cubs haven't locked up any of their young core?
