  6. QUOTE (Tony @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 02:15 PM) Seeing as the Pens just won the Cup with a 22 year old netminder, I don't see that being a fit. To free up the cash, not as the primary piece. The only other players that are in that sort of price range are the main guys in Keith, Kane, and Toews, along with maybe Seabrook.
  7. QUOTE (captain54 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 02:51 PM) Again, as I posted in the another thread.. the capital gains tax that JR would incur upon sale of the Sox might wipe out the federal deficit… The Sox are now worth a little over a $1 billion .. JR bought the Sox for $20 M… the capital gains tax is 20% .. Except JR doesn't own 100% of the team.
  8. QUOTE (Tony @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 02:11 PM) Newsday Hockey scribe: Hearing Blackhawks seriously kicking tires on Evgeni Malkin. Will be interesting to see how they create cap space... I still don't buy it You'd have to trade Crawford to make that happen, at least.
  9. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 02:05 PM) They trade him because they aren't going to throw a truck load of money at him to keep him here. You trade him when he still has control left so the team acquiring him give you more value. The Sox have his control through the fall of 2019. It doesn't matter now.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 12:33 PM) Added comments in bold. Nice work Q.
  11. QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 01:33 PM) Some of these Sale returns are kind of ridiculous. Switch jerseys and say what you'd give up for Sale if you were the BoSox. Yoan Mocada is a good reasonable start with Pedroia in the way. Owens is too. And the Sox covet Swihart (even though I'm not sure he won't be the next Weiters rather than Posey -- true talent would have played his way into the every day lineup by now) After that? I just feel like you might be hard pressed to get much more. Also I think you can get the same haul basically next year, so why rush it this year? I still am giving this club 1 total more year. June 2017 then close the coffin on this team. Trading Sale at this point would be pretty unprecedented when you combine his performance, with his long term contract. The return should reflect that. I mean think of the return for Mark Texeirea. Then realize that he was years closer to free agency than Sale. A return for Chris Sale should be something that should turn around a franchise. Otherwise, why would the White Sox do it?
  12. QUOTE (Tony @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 11:04 AM) Most people liked Campbell, it was the contract we all hated. I'd love to have him back on exactly what you said. The powerplay would love him.
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 10:35 AM) I must say, I really don't understand the logic around here. If you were going to trade Chris Sale, the time to do that was BEFORE you went and made 12 other moves in an attempt to compete with this core. The time was to build a new core once you realized you couldn't assemble a competitive enough team in time to coincide with Sale's peak years. The time is not AFTER you've gone and tried to build around THIS core. We've since signed multiple free agents, made multiple trades, etc. You've come this far. Now you've got no choice but to keep trying. They need to keep adding to the core now, not selling it off. It would happen because the front office decides that this strategy didn't work, and that the time has come for real change. I think there is about a zero chance of it happening, as the more meatball portion of the fanbase would absolutely meltdown, and the organziation knows that.
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 10:34 AM) It's the Arabic word for God, not a name. When you read a translation of Spanish, you don't leave God as Dios. Eta you'd also translate some proper nouns eg Estados Unidos or italia or Deutschland, city names typically change eg Turin versus turino. Even in speaking in English, American Muslims don't refer to "God". They refer to Allah. Would it be different if this was a Jewish shooter, and instead referred to Yahweh?
  15. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 01:52 PM) Hard to say. They last met at Moletown. I don't know if he could reliably send a RSVP Yes raven to "encampment somewhere nearish Winterfell". [interested]
  16. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 09:20 AM) What's the story on this guy? Left handed bat, 20 years old, looks like he raked last year but has fallen off a cliff this season. Anyone have anything on him? He was a pretty high pick, and a highly regarded prospect not that long ago.
  17. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 10:29 PM) Uh that's the literal translation of the word I thought in translations, you didn't change proper names?
  18. QUOTE (Sonik22 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 09:38 AM) That was part of my plan and reasoning behind going there. The girlfriend wouldn't enjoy it like I would. I didn't think about a bus tour, but that sounds like a great idea. The bus tour will drive you through almost all of the site, hitting all of the main spots from the battle. They will also give you a nice overview of what happened at each place. This will give you an idea of what to explore more in depth after you are on your own. The battlefield really covers the entire town.
  19. If you are history or Civil War History buff at all, spend AT LEAST one whole day in Gettysburg. Take one of the bus tours to start, and see what interests you, and then go back to it. It is an incredibly powerful place.
  20. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 05:02 PM) Colleen Kane ‏@ChiTribKane 2m2 minutes ago Rick Hahn gave same line on Robin Ventura: "I don’t think it’s in anybody’s best interest to comment on the status of anybody in uniform." They won't even give him a vote of confidence. For an organization that doesn't like to telegraph its moves, that is a jarring non-statement.
  21. Colleen Kane ‏@ChiTribKane 29m29 minutes ago Hahn believes Shields can be fixed. "We believe they’re more mechanics...than the unprecedented evaporation of talent in a premier starter."
  22. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 04:44 PM) They've been really active internationally, despite not going over and they spent every dollar allotted to them ever since the new rules have came into effect with the current CBA in 2012. The fact that the Padres wanted Tatis Jr, is a good sign. Its a good indication of the progress they've made While they haven't hit the headlines, they have been spending bringing in lots of lower cost players, especially pitchers who are much harder to project at 14/15/16 years old than the hitters are. That is why we are also seeing pitchers that we never heard about getting into our system over the last couple of years.
  23. JJ Stankevitz ‏@JJStankevitz 17m17 minutes ago Boston, MA Rick Hahn on James Shields: "We believe the issues are fixable." Focus on mechanics. #WhiteSoxTalk
  24. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 04:27 PM) I really hope that's true. It's difficult to give them the benefit of the doubt until some of these guys are on full season teams and doing well. Even getting that many kids out of the DSL and into rookie ball is something considering where we were 5 years ago.
  25. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 03:59 PM) Interesting that Blake Hickman is listed as a C. Eh, I am sure it was just an error. Hickman keeps posting about throwing and being ready to throw. https://twitter.com/BlakeHickman18/status/739971469908680704
