  1. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 06:12 PM) I am looking for a link but apparently Tom Verducci said that Rios did not get through the AL unclaimed. Pretty much the only other AL team I can see making claim is the Yankees (assuming the Red Sox are telling the truth about not making a claim).
  2. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 05:54 PM) Bingo. From what I've heard, the Red Sox for sure put a claim out on him. Someone had a link to the Red Sox and Mets saying that they did NOT make a claim, earlier in this thread.
  3. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 05:44 PM) Bad news if true. Retardi would probably open up trade talks then. It doesn't matter how many teams claimed. Only the team who is at the top of the priority list can negotiate with the Jays. If they don't reach a deal, Rios can't go anywhere (assuming the Jays do pull Rios off of waivers)
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 04:52 PM) I don't believe that at all. I think he has one AB since Kotsay got here, and that was the PH last night.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 04:51 PM) Both teams would make some sense, San Fran moreso, but if I was reading what you posted earlier correctly, would he have to get past the whole AL before he got to either of them? That is true. AL teams get first dibs.
  6. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 04:49 PM) If the Sox get Rios then Kotsay is probably on the way out. Wise goes nowhere. And watch Wise start in CF over Rios, too. Wise has been the last guy off of the bench since Kotsay got here. Wise would be gone in a heartbeat.
  7. ESPN speculation is around San Francisco and the Mets, Sox aren't mentioned.
  8. QUOTE (striker62704 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 04:27 PM) Theres no way I would take on that contract without the Jays eating some of it. It doesn't work like that right now. IF we claimed Rios, the Jays can stick us with the entire contract, no questions asked, and no negotiations involved.
  9. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 04:14 PM) Could take up to 3 days I believe. And even then we may never know. Someone in one of the two front offices involved has to leak the info because this is not public stuff.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 04:24 PM) The thing that makes this one interesting is...you could actually see the Blue Jays just letting him go. If I am the Jays, I let him walk so I can keep Halladay. It is a dream come true for them. The only thing better would have been someone claiming Wells.
  11. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 04:23 PM) They have it right. Gammons had a good article on the waiver wire a few years back on how everyone is put through it. For example I believe we put Konerko and Buehrle through in 2004 for pretty much no reason at all. Teams put their entire rosters through waivers to hide the players they are trying to trade. A team can only make so many claims, so the trick is to try to find the guys that are being snuck through by your rivals.
  12. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 04:14 PM) 43.15 million coming off the books if both Dye and Thome leave. I read in the Trib the other day we have $61 million in salary committments for '10. That doesn't include any of our arb or FA guys.
  13. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 04:00 PM) A lot of people in the MLBtraderumor comment section think it's us. There aren't many teams that have cash coming off of their books. I wonder who else it even could be.
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 11:51 AM) I saw him at an Al Gore dinner last year and he looked like a mess. If I didn't know he was the mayor I'd have thought he was some schlub off the street. Hair was messy, suit didn't fit well, goofy mannerisms. I'll be honest, I think Rich is a crook, but he is one of the coolest guys you will ever meet. I have been kinda lucky to spend some time with him away from everything.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 09:57 AM) So yesterday, I was walking to go pick up some lunch downtown. A man and woman walk up next to me, waiting for a light. I glance over, and the man is Mayor Daley. The woman was an assistant of some kind I assume. Having met him on a couple occasions but not knowing him well, I give the courtesy head nod, and he does the same. Just thought it was odd that it was just Da Mayor and one assistant, wandering through downtown, unnoticed by anyone else apparently. Yeah that is surprising, usually when I have run into him, he has his detail with him. Plus he is really short, how did you even notice him way down there
  16. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 10:51 PM) He was found tonight at McDonalds. He was hard to spot because he was in disguise... That picture is total bulls***. There is no way that many hamburgers would be sitting in front of him. He would have ate them.
  17. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 03:47 AM) Unfortunately, Gilmore hasn't been able to find any consistency this season and his numbers so far in 99 games for Kanny are as follows: .243 AVG .286 OBP .305 SLG .591 OPS 3 HR 40 RBI 15 2B 0 3B 23 BB 69 K 3 SB/2 CS Wow, brutal power numbers.
  18. QUOTE (chisoxpride2 @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 10:12 PM) seriously, how difficult could it be to find this guy? he's the size of a school bus hmm, that is a good idea for where to look...
  19. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 08:36 PM) Damn you admin/mod responsible for the title! Now I have Bye Bye Birdie songs in my head. I am glad SOMEONE got it!
  20. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 08:17 PM) Yeah, I am a tool. We don't call you Craftsman for nothin!
  21. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 05:46 PM) Apparently, Barolo is missing again. Not much of a surprise. It would be equally unsurprising to see him released, suspended by the team, or traded for crap (note not Clayton Richard and Aaron Poreda) in the upcoming weeks. http://blogs.suntimes.com/whitesox/2009/08...n_this_man.html He is something like the 7th or 8th starter right now... Behind MB, JD, GF and JC, then Torres, Hudson, and Garcia at least. He will obviously be behind Peavy when he gets back as well. We might as well release the guy.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 04:06 PM) Can we get a "Time to move JD down in the order" thread? It isn't the offense that is killing me. He looked like someone paid him to throw the series, in the field. Physical mistakes, mental mistakes... Alexei would have looked down on him.
  23. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 05:10 PM) Palinista! See, it feels good just to label someone and let the connotation of the label carry the insult for you!
  24. So is the cost arguement garbage? The Sox had the team with the best record in baseball in town, had perfect weather, had discounted tickets, and perfect weather. They drew 30k, 32k, and 28k.
  25. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 04:07 PM) Wow, that's a surprise. I'll have to put Breakfast Club on and toast his memory. RIP Don't you forget about me... RIP.
