chris young teh unbelievable suckfest
QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 09:37 PM) Look at his history of strikeouts. This was always a problem for him and I think a good indicator on how a player makes a transition to the MLB. It is by no means a lock but it is fairly accurate. That's the biggest reason I was never a Josh Fields fan at all.

Catch-All Anything Thread
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 10:05 PM) I feel your pain. And I'd almost take two under 4 as a trade-in for obnoxious 9 and know-it-all 11. I think I have the tempermental 1.5 and the know it all 3.5 year old. That's what I get for having girls. I already told the wife I am moving out for 10 years when the oldest starts menstruating.

AJ
I don't know if he would want to or not, but I would love to have Flowers mentor under AJ for a year. There aren't many better people to learn the mental game of baseball from.

Dayan Viciedo September cup of coffee?
So with the September calls ups mere weeks away, do we think Viciedo will get a call up, does he deserve a call up, and could he realistically help the Sox in a pennant race?

Peavy Throws 3 Scoreless
I like that his velocity seemed solid. It means he is getting good drive on that ankle.

Cub Fan Incident with Beer
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 07:52 PM) Obviously their fans aren't dumping beer on players every game, but more often than any other stadium -- combined -- they'll throw trash on the field. It's a completely different animal being in those bleachers, where drunkeness is celebrated and renowned throughout the baseball world. To me, this the big difference. If this same incident happened at USCF, there would be an entire section of people pointing out the lowlife who threw the beer. They would be gone so fast their head would spin. At Wrigley, no one said a damned thing, because it is cool there. Every fan base has its morons, but only one fan base actually celebrates and encourages their idiots.

Name a state that the US could do without
QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 08:31 PM) its funny you mention that.. i've thought of that idea a few times (not selling Hawaii but selling other territories) check out the list.. Unincorporated organized territories Guam Northern Mariana Islands (commonwealth) Puerto Rico (commonwealth) United States Virgin Islands Unincorporated unorganized territories American Samoa, technically unorganized, but self-governing under a constitution last revised in 1967 Baker Island, uninhabited Howland Island, uninhabited Jarvis Island, uninhabited Johnston Atoll, uninhabited Kingman Reef, uninhabited Bajo Nuevo Bank, uninhabited (claimed by Jamaica and several other Central American countries) Serranilla Bank, uninhabited (claimed by Colombia) Midway Islands, uninhabited, currently included in the Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge Navassa Island, uninhabited (claimed by Haiti) Wake Atoll consisting of Peale, Wake and Wilkes Islands[4], no indigenous inhabitants, only contractor personnel (claimed by the Marshall Islands) I'll bet most of those unihabited islands glow in the dark.

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 04:08 PM) Do you really think we're this stupid? Hey, if nothing else, I'm sure none of us can remember any instances of a person not having a living will and that coming back to totally bite the Republicans in the ass by making them look completely insane and having Congress and the President interject themselves in to a family's decision. Relax killer, I didn't think I needed the green there.

White Sox Media People
Scott Reifort and Brooks Boyer are my favorites out of the Sox organization.

Too bad. You could solve the health care and social security problems in one swoop.

Getz to the DL

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 02:38 AM) I don't have kids, yet my tax dollars pay for other kids schools. Since I'm not in school, I'm being penalized. When I didn't own a car, my tax dollars paid for roads I didn't drive on. Since I'm not driving, I'm being penalized. Your tax dollars currently fund several single payer health programs that you do not participate in. Yet you pay for them and are therefore being penalized for not using them. All this proposal does is level the playing field. Giving you access to health coverage if you can't afford a private plan. I don't understand the "taking away your freedom" argument. It seems rather tenuous at best. The interesting thing is why the federal road system, specifically the interestate system was developed in the first place. Not to mention, I don't accept prior erosions of economic freedoms as justifications for future ones. To me that is circular logic. Its like my three year old saying that I let her stay up an hour let when friends were over, so she gets to stay up late every night.

Would you be a fan of becoming more defensively oriented?
Rios is going to be a huge plus whenever he is on the field. There will be a lot less balls falling in the OF, and a lot less guys trying to run on our arms. The infield is what is scary. I don't know if I have seen a left side of the IF with less range than ours.

Flowers voted Southern League's best defensive catcher
QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 01:45 PM) kind of hard to believe because NOBODY was calling him a top defensive catcher last year. They were calling him a guy who might have to move to first base or DH. Saw him play in AAA severall weeks ago. Looks a little stiff and mechanical behind the plate. Not only that, but he was being called terrible and a future corner infielder.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 01:09 AM) blah I must be the only person in the country who is completely sick and tired of hearing about anything regarding the 'founding' of America 250 years ago. Whether it's what the "founding father's would've wanted" or some hilariously outdated document that people still cling to, the whole idea of trying to get back to our roots is so (for lack of a better word) gullible. We dont live in 1789 America anymore folks, if you haven't noticed. Then someone needs to come up with a new constitution because until they we need to live under the one we have.
