  1. Happy Birthday
  2. QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 05:57 AM) Only an asshole would say such a thing. True dat.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 12:11 PM) if I were a Cubs fan I would be mad that DeRosa was traded to the Indians in the first place and replaced with the bums that they got(Bradley and Miles). There is no doubt in my mind that DeRosa would be the starting 2B right now and they probably never would have missed a beat when Aramis went down. But blasting him for not reacquiring DeRosa is pretty dumb. His hands are tied now, there is nothing he can do if the money doesnt match up The first part of that would be fair. All though if Bradley were doing anything close to what he usually hit, the DeRosa talk wouldn't be going on.
  4. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 08:09 AM) I like the trade for both teams. The Cardinals were dealing from a position of strength. They've got plenty of quality RF relief. I don't think it was a case of them giving up on Perez. He's only 23 and has filthy stuff. His K/9 rates have always been impressive. His problem has always been walks. If he can ever get his BB/9 down, the Indians will have landed a serious young stud (with closer potential). OT: I love how Cubs fans are ripping Jim Hendry to shreds over this deal. I think Hendry is a below average GM. But what the hell could he have offered Cleveland that would've topped Chris Perez? And we don't even know who the PTBNL is. Blasting Hendry for this deal is just stupid. The complete lack of ownership direction means that without a third team to dump payroll on, the Cubs couldn't makea deal for DeRosa. There was no chance that Cleveland was going to wait around for that, plus they got at least one solid arm for that horrible pen out of the deal.
  5. I told you guys it wouldn't be the Cubs. They can't add a damned penny in payroll right now.
  6. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 07:47 PM) Saw a blurb today that said Mitchell was close to signing and should be inked within next few days. Don't really feel like looking for the source though, you're just going to have to take my word for it. Trib blog http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune....ing-praise.html
  7. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 07:54 PM) Charlotte v Buffalo B ham v Mississippi W-S v Frederick Kanny v Hickory Bristol v Princeton GF v Billings hasn't started yet Egbert dealing, and Flowers with a first inning homer. Viciedo picked off of first.
  8. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 07:25 PM) With his current batting style, Beckham likely won't be able to handle any good fastballs on the inner part. He's got his bat pointing towards the pitcher so much and someone his size who doesn't have a ton of strength, it's gonna be real tough for him to get his bat around fast enough. I really think if we want to expect long term success out of Beckham, he's gonna have to change his approach a bit. He sure powered a pitch on his fists for a hit the AB before it.
  9. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 06:59 PM) lol... In all seriousness though, there's a lot less thinking required in CF or the OF in general then there is at SS. Hell, there's a lot less thinking required at most positions than at SS. In the OF, Alexei will have a lot more time to read and react, and you don't have to worry about the throws from the OF. In the OF, you're taught to get the ball back into the infield as fast as possible, and when Alexei guns it, it's usually on the money. The thing you have to worry about is if he'll get good reads and if he'll hit the cutoff when needed and/or throw to the right bases depending on the situations. Also, you still have to worry about communication between the other outfielders and the middle infielders. However, I'd say Ramirez would make a better CF than SS right now. You'd change your mind quickly the first time he screwed up a read into a triple, or threw to the wrong base.
  10. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 05:59 PM) How about now? Why, so he can misjudge fly balls and miss cut-off men? His problem isn't that he isn't good enough to play SS, its that he has the attention span of an ADHD hummingbird.
  11. Nice to see Gordo break through in the clutch today. That could be the start of the bottom of the line ups revival.
  12. 3 errors 3 unearned runs, and a balk... We had no business winning that game, that being said, what a great one to steal!!!
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 05:15 PM) Yep, I had a bad feeling as soon as Soriano was so on top of the plate. Carrasco should have wasted a pitch up and in before dropping down. Soriano expands his zone so often. Throw one eye level or in the dirt. It can't hurt, and there is a real chance he swings at it.
  14. You can't throw Soriano a strike with two outs. You have to go out of the zone somewhere.
  15. Now the defense just has to stay solid for 12 more outs...
  16. lol at Thome running on Milton Bradley.
  17. Dempster is all over the place. I can't wait to get into the Cubs pen.
  18. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 04:47 PM) 90 Thanks.
  19. Anyone got a pitch count for Dempster so far?
  20. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 04:41 PM) lol Pods looked at Anderson like wtf when Anderson asked if that counts as a stolen base. You could tell that the last thing Pods cared about was the statistics. That it was something Anderson thought about, might be telling.
  21. Someone tell Anderson that Pods gets an HR for that one!
  22. I love Brian Anderson in the dugout asking Pods if he gets a stolen base in the after coming off of the bag.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 04:35 PM) If PK would have started to go towards 1b, and Buehrle lobbed it over, you could get away with it. Just a stupid play though, and someone missed a sign. I really think Konerko screwed up. Usually when you are using the day light play, the sign to throw the ball is the open mitt. PK opened his mitt really wide as Buehrle was looking over there, and then Burls stepped off.
  24. I believe you have to throw the ball to first base, not to the first baseman twenty feet away.
