  1. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 12:52 PM) They said on an update on the score it was suppose to be a deal of Buf and Sopel to Washington for Nylander.....now its on the back burner. Damn. That would have freed up a ton of space and given the Hawks their second line center.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 02:00 PM) No doubt they are in deep doo-doo. But from a consumer banking perspective, I just don't think its panic time. Now, higher end investors have a whole different picture to deal with of course. Heck, even money market funds may suddenly start having issues. But people won't lose their bank accounts. They aren't going to lose their bank accounts, but the extras are the first things to go because they are back of the line creditors at the point it fails. Its why places that file bankruptcy invalidate or severely markdown their giftcards. The main creditors force this.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 01:52 PM) C won't go insolvent. They don't have enough bad plays, and still have quite a few positive cash flow centers. Plus their market presence in retail is huge. Even if they are broken up or acquired, of course, they won't just get rid of people's points or what not. That would cause customers to flee - the opposite of what they want. Oddly, they'll take away employee benefits before customer benefits. This is the same for the Big 3 auto companies. Unless they become truly insolvent and inoperable, the warranties on cars will remain intact, or else they'd be writing their own corporate death warrants. Their stock is falling and falling hard. Their cost of insuring $10,000,000 went from $390,000 to $470,000 in a few days. Last year it was $80,000. The next step is the bank run on deposits because people are paniced about the stock price. Any good run on desposits will cause a violation of capital ratios. They pretty much have to either break up the company, which they just said they won't do, sell the company, or go under.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 01:46 PM) That's what I figured. Glad I blew 80% of them in Vegas last summer. Most likely they will get aquired before something happens, but if they don't quickly, and they go insolvent, they are worthless.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 01:42 PM) And yet, somehow you've forgotten or at least decided to ignore Walmart. I'll take your Wal-Mart and raise you the UAW.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 01:40 PM) Time for me to cash out the rest of my citibank credit card points? I would say so. And quick.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 01:39 PM) Because it has already been established that this secret vote you're so desperate to protect simply isn't working, and it's allowed for enormous abuse of labor laws by businesses. If nothing else, big business has had its 50 years of abuses. Now it's time for the labor unions to have a chance to overstep things. Their chance? You have to be kidding. Unions have been crooked for decades. I can't be the only one to remember people like Jimmy Hoffa, right?
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 01:20 PM) C was around 20 just over a month ago. It opened today at about 5.20, and is now trading at ~3.70. Yikes. Like I outlined a couple of weeks ago, now their costs are skyrocketing and you should be seeing a run on deposits pretty soon. It shouldn't be long before this too belongs to JP Morgan, or the like.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 01:26 PM) AD, why do you waste your time on Al Sharpton? I didn't realize you were a fan. I would guess for about the same reason we are still getting Sarah Palin updates...
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 12:38 PM) Agreed, but most Presidents sort of spazz out in their last couple months trying to make a good mark on the world through various executive orders. I can't wait until the Pardon's start.
  11. I remember being on a plane to Texas for the first time, and as we were about to land at Hobby Airport they announced that Ronald Reagan had been shot.
  12. I remember watching the Space Shuttle fly over my backyard on the way to landing at Ellington Air Force base on top of a 747 for a refueling.
  13. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 12:09 PM) No, because even if he trades some guys for prospects, Kenny will end up shipping them out of town. As confident as I am that he'll add some to the farm this offseason, I'm just as nervous he'll deal Brandon Allen. I am still not sold on Allen. I really want to see him continue to get his K numbers down. I'd really like to see some video on him and see exactly what the mechanics of his swing look like.
  14. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 11:07 AM) not sure if i saw this posted elsewhere, but the Hawks are currently leading the NHL in attendance. McDounough is really good at his job. It would be interesting to see what the Hawks would be doing if MCD had not have been hired.
  15. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 12:03 PM) Ugh. Please no Fernando Perez. He'll be 26 next year and he struck out 156 times in Triple A. If this board doesn't like Josh Fields, then it's not going to like Josh Fields the speedy CF who has no power. We need to be talking to Texas about Julio Borbon. That kid is f***ing awesome. So KHP, are you ready to change your screen-name yet?
  16. QUOTE (CWSOX45 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 11:52 AM) I agree, and if this is the case then Kenny will most likely be asking for Fernando Perez. The kid is a player Kenny would most likely be infatuated with. Flat out speed and can fly around the bases. He's currently playing in winter ball right now, last time I checked he was flat out raking. I just don't think we have the pieces to land a guy like Crawford, and one of their starting pitchers unless they get Jenks and Dye. In all honesty I think we'd have to get a better picher than Jackson if this is indeed the package that is being offered. Should be interesting. I am guessing because of salary considerations, a deal for Crawford would be easier than a deal for Perez.
  17. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 11:49 AM) If you could get Crawford, Davis and a couple more prospects for Jenks and Dye, would you make that move? As quickly as I could sign the paperwork.
  18. QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 11:28 AM) Would we be as excited about Viciedo if he was Brazilian or French? I don't care where he came from. If he had this kind of scouting report and signed to an affordable contract, I would be thrilled.
  19. I remember going to see the cast of "That's Incredible" when they stopped in Michigan City on their train tour of the USA.
  20. QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 11:15 AM) Why pay a king's ransom for Roberts if the Sox can just sign Furcal and keep Alexei at 2nd where we know he can play well. Roberts would look nice in a Sox uniform though. Because it would cost something like 4 years and $50 million to get Furcal here.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 11:04 AM) I feel the same way, that is of course unless he learns a nasty change, then he's a starter. Change would be ideal, because it would be a change from the hard stuff. If not, a cutter is always possible.
  22. I enjoyed his work too. I am sad to see him go.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 10:54 AM) Poreda >>>>>>>>>>>>>>Marquez I still think Poreda is destined for the closers role. He still doesn't have a third pitch.
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 10:51 AM) As much as I hated Swisher, there's no way Viciedo could put up Swisher's numbers if he started in 2009. Also, if we're counting on Marquez and Nunez to be on the 25 man roster coming out of ST, we're in trouble. You might see one of them on this team. Marquez has a shot at fifth start as the team sets up today. Nunez would have to have a Boone Logan type spring to even be in consideration.
  25. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 10:47 AM) I'd say 2 years of .350 OBP, good power and 50 steals at the top of our lineup is pretty good. There aren't many guys who have that skill set. And it makes the middle of the order a ton more dangerous as they would actually have a ton more chances to drive in some runs, instead of having the leagues top out maker at the top of the line up.
