  1. QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 09:09 AM) The other issue was the time he had, many conspiracy buffs believe he could not have gotten off three shots in the time allowed. It is also suspect that he missed on one and then made two solid hits on the follow up. I've seen this with novice shooters who do better on their second and third shots on a deer because they are reacting and not thinking. However, for a trained marksman like Oswald, I am troubled by that. Unless he had second thoughts as he squeezed the trigger on the first shot. The offical report is that he did it in 8.2 seconds. One of the specials on History had a trained marksman do it in 7 second flat.
  2. QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 08:24 AM) I've been there and I agree with everything you say here. I really did believe in a conspiracy a lot more until I actually visited the site and walked lots of the famous areas. The size of the area and the way it is set up is hard to appreciate through TV and the internet. I was a believer that Oswald could not have done it alone until I saw these couple of blocks, plus a couple of marksmen who set up some gel dummies and actually tested for the tragectory and distance, that it was entirely possible, actually probable, that LHO did this himself. Now were there people forcing/asking him to do this? That I don't know.
  3. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 02:39 PM) Markets up following reports that NY Fed Bank president Timothy Geithner will become Treasury Secretary. http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/11/25/business/25sorkin.php
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 01:41 AM) MacDougal signed a contract extension and has proceeded to be absolutely f***ing terrible. It was a bad deal. Mike MacDougals subsequent failure made the deal bad, it doesn't matter who we sent there.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 04:03 AM) ' So the former club (in this case the Tigers) can't simply offer arbitration after the new contract has already been signed but before December 1st and get the picks anyway? "6:00pm: Additional denials have come in via Andrew Baggarly and Derrick Goold. Baggarly says Renteria is the Giants' fallback for Furcal. He notes that the Tigers would've loved to see Renteria sign today, as they're unlikely to offer him arbitration. Goold learned that Meister (Renteria's agent) will double back with the Cardinals before Renteria signs elsewhere." mlbtraderumors.com I think he is saying that the Giants would sign guys before the Arbit deadline so they would lose their #1 pick, and not have to pay them.
  6. QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 07:10 AM) Ziiiinnng! I never get tired of Jim is old jokes. His grass... In Eygpt :
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 11:07 AM) The fact that he's looking solely at the "Recount" numbers, not the numbers that came in gradually before the official vote was certified? Exactly.
  8. How many people have actually ever been to the location that this happened at? The one thing I will say is how small the area really is. Oswald shooting from the book depository would have had a perfect shot, at a slow moving target, with nothing in his way, and not a long range. Also with the buildings there, I could really see how people could think there were multiple shooters. Noises echo in areas like that pretty easily, and it becomes hard to tell where exactly they came from.
  9. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 02:39 PM) A big-ass interstellar space ship spit the Great Pyramid out, everybody knows that. Hmm.. And since Jim was actually there, I think we have to trust him.
  10. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 03:12 PM) I saw the show a little over a week ago. Pretty interesting idea. The problem is that the Zahi Hawass is a royal pain in the ass. He's super over protective of the pyramids and wont let you DARE imply the possibility that the pyramids were created by a previous civilization.. because the Egyptian culture is the greatest of all time in his ego drive opinion. One time a group was banned form doing ultrasound (maybe sonar, i forget) tests on a potential cavern / chamber underneath the sphinx.... he stopped them because he "claimed" the sonar would damage items in the room if it existed. So, tests on the pyramid are pretty much never going to happen. He has also made impossible to study many of the artifacts that are just rotting in the Cairo museum.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 02:59 PM) Just a quick question or two in reply... When Bush made up his cabinet in 2000, he had 1 Democrat in it, Mineta at transportation. He also had such wonderful figures as Rumsfeld, Ashcroft, etc. Bush Also had much smaller margins in Congress and even electorally overall than Obama currently has. So I ask...out of his cabinet so far, who has been named or suggested who would be even remotely as far to the left as Bush's cabinet was to the right? And if it's a bad thing for the Liberals to be mad that they didn't get any seats in an Obama cabinet...why was it ok for Bush to put together a cabinet so far to the right after a much narrower victory? Ah yes, when the heat goes on, blame Bush. Its going to be a long 4 years.
  12. QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 02:58 PM) I'm sure that 11% increase will be more than enough to fund the precious new Gate 5 that is under rennovation. Not that there was anything really wrong with the old Gate 5, but hell, can never have enough gift shops and concessions. I'm still waiting to see what the team is doing from all the extra revenue that the Jim Beam Club was supposed to rake in. We have seen increases every year since 2005, but this is by far the most I am pretty sure that the Gate 5 stuff has to be be coming out of the ISTA money, or out of the US Celluar endorsement money. There are very specific rules about park improvements and how those can be funded. I don't believe that gate money goes to that stuff, unless something recently changed.

  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 01:57 PM) I noticed it on his facebook page. He doesn't say where though. Let me ask him. He said he has only been down there three days, but he will be playing for leones del escogito.

No "More than a feeling" jokes? I am so disappointed.
  16. So back to the original deal involving Vazquez and Jenks to the Mets... Anymore talk going on anywhere about this, or has it died down?
  17. QUOTE (scenario @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 01:55 PM) Didn't see that. Who is he playing for? I noticed it on his facebook page. He doesn't say where though. Let me ask him.
  18. I caught an interesting special on this last night. I thought I would share it with anyone else who is fascinated with the pyramids. http://www.pyramidofman.com/blog/how-were-...s-built-part-5/
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 01:23 PM) Switching topics a bit...2k5...your $2 trillion prediction? I think we've just blown past it by a factor of 3.85. How depressing. I really am looking forward to the study that indicated how much of this would not have happened if not for Sarbane's Oxley requirements.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 01:11 PM) Except that they weren't the ones writing the majority of the bad loans the last few years nor were they the ones dramatically over leveraging on them. An interesting thing to think about on your point though...if FNMA and FDMC did not exist...and we also imposed a limit on the size of banks so that we couldn't get "Too big to fail" entities...how many banks would we need to handle the mortgage market? They weren't writing them, but they were guarenteeing them. There really isn't any difference between the two. Without Freddie and Fannie around to buy this crap, these loans don't get made. The fact that there was a government entity created to back this crap up is what caused this problem. The size of the banks is a secondary problem. Then again, if they made government entities applicable to the same anti-trust standards that they want to apply to banks, this would have also never happened.
  21. David Cook is also playing in the Domincan League.

  23. QUOTE (MO2005 @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 11:51 AM) Great point..Jackson is way too wild and we saw also what happened with Sisco and McDougall. I'll take a pass. I would like to see if there was a trade obtaining that Fernado Perez kid..I kind of have that weird feeling that somehow someway Carl Crawford will come here. It always seems the guys Kenny wants he gets them 2-3 years past the time he was rumored to try to acquire them. Griffey and Erstad are examples of that happening. We also saw what happened with Jose Contreras who led the AL in Wild Pitches. He also managed to get Carlos Quentin 2 or 3 years after trying, that one seemed to work out OK.
  24. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 11:50 AM) Why? You would rather go with an underachiever (Nix) and/or unproven player (Getz)? Hasn't KW had a history of buying low on players like this? Plus, wasn't Uribe making $5MM last year as a utility player? I'm not sure I follow your resistance... For what you are going to get from you backup SS, which something like 20 starts, plus some more games off of the bench, why is that worth $5,000,000, plus the players we would have to give up to get him? Add to that the holes we already have at places like the leadoff spot and no back up catcher, and I don't think it is money really well spent. You wouldn't spend $5 million to back up Carlos Quentin would you? While an extreme example, it is the same line of thinking.
  25. Hopefully this a sign that an Obama adminsitration will be more bipartisian that his 97% of the time voting with Democrats would indicate.
