This has been covered numerous times in this thread. Vazquez is owed $8.5 million in 2006 and $9.5 million in 2007 because the Yankees are picking up $3 million per year of his contract. That's a total of $18 million over 2 seasons that Vazquez is owed, not $24 million.
-
I agree. If the Sox aren't getting cash to pay for some of Vazquez's contract over the next two years, a straight-up trade of Garland for Vazquez would suck.
-
Orioles won't happen. http://arizona.diamondbacks.mlb.com/NASApp...t=.jsp&c_id=ari

DOH!!! We all know that Kenny usually gets what Kenny wants.
-
He's too busy fighting with Brian Dolgin.
-
If we keep Garland, he is likely gone after 2006 when he starts getting $10 million per year contract offers as a free agent. I guess it comes down to whether you would rather have one year of Garland or two years of Vazquez.
-
We will need to have some cheap players at certain positions to also be able to afford our pitching.
-
Adam Dunn? Why would KW go after an outfielder via trade when we are stocked with young, cheap outfield prospects? KW will have to save some money somewhere with the insane and rising price for pitching.
-
The Yankees are paying $3 million per year of Vazquez's contract. The Diamondbacks owe Vazquez $8.5 million in 2006 and $9.5 million in 2007. But if Arizona isn't willing to pick up any more of Vazquez's contract to trade him, I wouldn't be interested if I were KW. Uhhh, okay. People are forgetting that whatever team trades for Garland may only have him for one season before he hits free agency and gets $10 million per year offers thrown at him. That lowers his trade value.

Garland has been better than Vazquez for one season -- 2005. Vazquez has always had much better stuff than Garland. Let me post this again: Jon Garland (26 years old) 4.42 career ERA 1.38 career WHIP .265 career BAA 4.92 career K/9 3.35 career BB/9 Javier Vazquez (29 years old) 4.28 career ERA 1.27 career WHIP .260 career BAA 7.77 career K/9 2.40 career BB/9 Now if Garland has truly turned the corner and will continue to put up an ERA around 3.50, then by all means Garland is better. But that remains to be seen.

This friendship stuff is seriously overrated. It's all about the green. Do you really think that Garland is going to be worried about Buehrle when he is getting $10 million per year contract offers thrown at him after next season? Of course not. If Garland was so worried about Buehrle, why didn't he sign the 3 year deal that the Sox offered him a week ago? Because he wants the big pay day.
-
Exactly. Rowand was Pierzynski's best friend on the team but now A.J. is already hoping for a long-term contract with the Sox.
-
Vazquez will earn $8.5 million in 2006 and $9.5 million in 2007. Kenny might be able to get the Diamondbacks to throw a couple million his way to help pay for Vazquez's contract. The Sox offered Garland a three year contract a week ago and he turned it down. Garland would probably laugh at an offer of $12 million for two years, especially since he could probably get $10 million a year once he hits free agency after next season.

Cubs might have interest in Jacque Jones for RF

I'm thinking that it has to be Garland after he supposedly turned down a 3 year contract offer from the Sox just a week ago.
-
I think Vazquez said that he wanted to pitch for a team closer to the east coast, not necessarily an east coast team.

I found the article. This was a chat with ESPN's Jerry Crasnick on December 9th regarding the Winter Meetings: http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=10110

It's not Newsday, it's the New York Daily News. And I also read some other source a week or so ago mention that there were some rumblings of the White Sox being interested in Vazquez. I'm looking for it now.
-
Teams know that Garland may want to test free agency after 2006. That means whatever team gets him might only have him for one season. I would think that would lower his trade value quite a bit.
-
Garland could be gone for a huge contract after 2006. Vazquez would be under contract for 2006 and 2007. That would be the main reason KW would make this trade. And maybe we could get Vazquez and cash for Garland so Vazquez would be relatively inexpensive for the two years. You realize that Garland could get $10 million a year after next season, right? He will be a free agent after 2006.

First page, third post of this thread.

Doesn't Vazquez also have a decent sinker? And doesn't the air in Arizona mess with a pitcher's breaking stuff? Cooper would have to get Vazquez to throw it more at the Cell. This wouldn't be a bad trade if the Sox are pretty sure Garland wants to just accept the biggest free agent offer he receives after 2006. I wouldn't mind a trade of Garland for Vazquez + $1 million in 2006 and $2 million in 2007. Vazquez would then cost us only $7.5 in 2006 and 2007. I'm not sure Arizona would do that though.

For comparison's sake: Jon Garland (26 years old) 4.42 career ERA 1.38 career WHIP .265 career BAA 4.92 career K/9 3.35 career BB/9 Javier Vazquez (29 years old) 4.28 career ERA 1.27 career WHIP .260 career BAA 7.77 career K/9 2.40 career BB/9

Hmmm, coincidence? http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/0.../xbl10312032233 "Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen, right, and Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Javier Vazquez, left, prepare to pose as a favor for a young woman working for the sponsor Medalla Beer, while the two took a short break in the the Javier Vazquez Charity Golf Classic, in Ponce Puerto Rico, Saturday, Dec. 3, 2005.
