  1. ^^^ This is exactly what I think it is. Both Garland and Contreras could garner $10+ million a year contracts after next season on the free agent market. To fit one of them in the budget, maybe Kenny thinks his best bet is to trade a guy like Garland for Vazquez + cash. And if Cooper could bring out the best in Vazquez like he did with Contreras, we would have three pitchers in our rotation with great stuff in Contreras, Garcia, and Vazquez.
  2. I just have the feeling that the Sox think Garland wants to go back to the west coast (Angels?) for a big deal after next season so they want to get a pitcher for him that they know will be here for at least two years. Our team is built to repeat within the next two seasons, in my opinion.
  3. I think if the Sox were to deal either Garland or Contreras for Vazquez, it would be because they want to have a solid rotation for the next 2 years but they don't feel like they will be able to re-sign both Garland and Contreras after 2006 (both will be free agents after next season). Maybe they feel that one of them will be a goner after 2006.
  4. I doubt we'd have to give up a prospect in the deal. Garland is younger, cheaper, and was better than Vazquez last year. Vazquez is demanding a trade so the Diamondbacks are trying to move him.
  5. The Yankees are still picking up $3 million per year of Vazquez's contract so whatever team trades for him will owe him $8.5 in 2006 and $9.5 million in 2007, unless the Diamondbacks include cash in the deal. Maybe the Sox have a feeling that Garland wants to go back home to the west coast for a long-term deal after 2006? It seems that Kenny has had a man crush on Vazquez for quite some time. He must think that Don Cooper can transform yet another Yankee castoff into a stud. I'm not sure why though. Garland is perfect for the Cell since he's a sinkerballer. Vazquez gives up too many homers so I doubt he'd be very successful at the Cell. But he does have a pretty good sinker so he would have to throw it a lot at the Cell.

  9. Yeah, we're already lamenting our $75 million dollar bust Tyson Chandler. :puke

  12. Because McCarthy, Jenks, and Iguchi were unknowns at the major league level. Pierzynski, Podsednik, El Duque, and Dye weren't.
  13. They mentioned Iguchi under the "Talent Level" heading, not "Minors." I guess they just consider Brian Anderson, Chris Young, and Ryan Sweeney our "major prospects."
  14. ABC 7 news is showing some clips of Pierzynski at the PPV tonight after the Saints/Falcons game.
  15. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5162736 Man, this guy really hates Podsednik doesn't he? And why do we need outfield depth? Podsednik, Anderson, Dye, Mackowiak, Ozuna, Owens. He also says that we overpaid Konerko. Meanwhile, this is what he says about the Dodgers signing Furcal who got more money per season than Konerko: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5162730 :headshake
  16. I'm also hoping that someone posts a video. Orangekrush88 seems to be the big wrestling fan of the site. He posted the video of Pierzynski's debut in TNA here: http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...pic=44002&st=15

  18. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-g...ov=ap&type=lgns I can see why Garland wants to wait a year for free agency. :puke
  19. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2256742 Great trade for the Rangers.
  20. On the whole, I think that El Duque could be more effective out of the bullpen than Marte. But lefties absolutely destroy El Duque.

  22. There are still decent young lefties with upside that could be dealt for. We could use Borchard, Willie, and prospects to nab one.
  23. Well, with the way Ozzie managed the bullpen last season I think some people are worried he is going to waste Cotts on just one or two lefty batters.
