The Yankees are finally dumping old fart Bernie Williams. They aren't going to want to add 40 year old Steve Finley who had a garbage year and whom you have to really question if he was on steroids in previous years. The Yankees would rather have a young guy like Rowand or Juan Pierre to patrol center field. The Yankees are old enough as it is. I doubt they want to get even older.

I know. I'm not sure if Uribe can repeat his 2004 because pitchers were serving him up a lot more fastballs then. He's not seeing many pitches over the plate these days because pitchers know he will swing at crap off the plate. His weakness is sliders and breaking stuff low and away, just like Rowand. I do think that Uribe can put up numbers between his 2004 and 2005 seasons next year, somewhere around a .770 OPS with 20 homers.

I don't see why anyone wants to replace Uribe. He plays awesome defense and makes very little money. His numbers after the All-Star break when he added the leg kick and started taking more bad pitches were very good. I'd like to see what he can do with his new repertoire from the start of next season. Next season, I think Uribe will put up numbers between his 2004 and 2005. I don't see why some people want to get rid of a cheap, studly defender that puts up decent numbers batting ninth.

Resigning Konerko will be tough enough. Why are people talking about signing both Konerko and Giles? Konerko and Giles would be a combined $25 million more payroll a year, if not more. Deep down, we all know it isn't going to happen so why bother discussing it? If we want a good lefty #3 hitter we will have to trade for one that doesn't make too much money (Lyle Overbay, for example). We will have to use guys like Rowand, Marte, El Duque, and prospects as trade bait.

I heard Frank say in an interview that he was swinging for homeruns because running the bases was too painful for him. If his foot is healing fine I would resign him to a cheap contract ($3.5 million buyout plus a cheap base salary with incentives). What other #3 hitter can we get on the cheap that can hit like Frank? We aren't getting Giles so people should just forget about that pipe dream. Frank is worth the health risk in my opinion. If he gets injured again, work Brian Anderson and Ross Gload into the lineup.

Prior would have to revert back to 2003 Prior. Wood would have to stay healthy and pitch like he did in 2003. Maddux would have to pitch like he did with the Braves. They would have to sign Furcal and Giles. Also, their bullpen would have to pitch a hell of a lot better than the past two years. Finally, they would have to fire Dusty Baker. In other words, I don't see it happening.

Well, this season Ortiz was the slightly better hitter among the two. They mainly batted Ortiz third and Manny cleanup to go lefty, righty, lefty, righty. Johnny Damon (lefty) Edgar Renteria (righty) David Ortiz (lefty) Manny Ramirez (righty) Both Ortiz and Manny are #3 hitters on almost any other team. Your best hitter bats third. Manny is a better hitter than Konerko. I can guarantee you that Ozzie and any other manager in the MLB would bat Manny third and Konerko fourth.
